Thread: Radical Suggestion to Limit those who choose to be Jedi.

The controls on the abuse could be simple: make the mentors need the relationship too, and use that to limit the growth as well. Here's a thought:

A padawan may only train under a knight to acquire a skill box. When the knight teaches his padawan, he gains mentor points. For a knight to train, it takes X experience points and Y mentor points to acquire the knight's new box. A knight can only hold so manymentor points at once, and can not teach any skills when he is capped. The number of mentor points a knight would earn in teachinga padawan to full template is equal to the number of points the mentor points a knight needs to acquire all of his boxes.

Make this kind of relationship exist from FS to padawan to knight to master to counselor, each teaching the lower level and gaining mentor points to his own next level. You could set the mentor point caps so that the number of Jedi is limited by a hierarchy:

9 Counsel positions (trained by NPC's) - each with enough mentor points under the cap to train 4 Masters

36Masters - each with enough mentor points under the cap to train 3 Knights

108 Knights - each with enough mentor points under the cap to train two padawans

216 Padawans - each with enough mentor points to train one FS candidate

216 FS candidates which don't earn mentor points

There you have it, an effective cap on the number of Jedi on the server - less than 700 per faction. Want a different number, change the number of counsel seats and/or mentor caps at various levels. This also has the side effect of removing the villiage.

I'm not arrogant enough to assume I get to pick who should and shouldn't be taught.

It might work if they tied it to a master padawan FRS system so the only way you could advance is by having a paddy you train. It is an interesting idea but would require effort from new and older jedi.

omg what is it with you guys? ... people WANT to be Jedi ... why is that so bad? ... did you come into this game knowing that Jedi was a playable character and honestly think there wouldn't end up being lots of people actually PLAYING JEDI ??? ... If you want a game with no jedi there are plenty out there man.

Jedi aren't even supposed to exist man. Should all of the non-Jedi fighting in the GCW be shoved out of it??? The STORY of Star Wars has Jedi controlled into hiding or DEAD right now!!!

I COULD go play another game... maybe it would be a REAL Star Wars game, cause this ain't it, buddy.

From the recent FanFest:

"the 'concern' of too many jedi

julio torres of lucas arts said they considered the problem of continuity with having too many jedi. they resolved that players want to play jedi and in this case they choose fun over continuity."

OK, well then why don't you do your part to reduce the number of Jedi, and delete your Jedi account right away? Real easy to dictate what you think is right for other folks, but a whole different ballgame when the shoe is on the other foot huh? I must say you are a bit of a pradigm, in here griping about the number of jedi, while you are a Jedi....hmmmmm

Which is why, to be of any effect as a population control, it would have to cost you to train someone.

Would you be willing to train someone if you had to regrind the exp for the box you were training? Howsabout if you needed "X" amount of Force Teaching exp to advance to the next tier of the FRS?

What I like about this idea is that it creates a death penalty for full template Jedi... no skill loss, but you can't train your padwan apprentice unless your sitting at positive exp.
