Thread: Survey results on pre and post cu game....

But honestly, was pre-Cu any more than point, click, fill up combat queue, wait? The CU feels slower to me, definitely, but you can't say pre-CU was a system filled with strategy...it had even less requirement for strategy than post-CU. Before, you got buffed, put on your best armor and simply spammed your best move. That was it, pretty much. At least now you have to alternate sometimes.

Word. Pre-CU was a whole different jumble. But it had character, like Arnold on Green Acres.

Had they fixed THAT system (and there's no reason they could not have - we didn't always buff to fight, always have 90% resists, always have ub3r DOT'd pikes, blah blah blah) they'd have something worth being a fan of. This mess, when it gets all untangled, will just be another average, run-of-the-mill MMORPG with a Star Wars skin.

It's like a gateway MMO. You try it, then move on to other games that are better at it because they've been doing this exact same system for years.

(Except for WoW, it's better at it, but it's only been doing it for months.)

I agree with the buff time limitations btw I think they need to be a lot longer. The idea was that you needed to have a doctor with you in a group. In practice its just not as practical as all that.

But the armor isn't creeping back. That is the point of the way the new system works. No matter what you do to your armor you cannot exceed a 60% damage mitigation because of the way the calculations work.

true..but add in the new special slices...ADK's (which I think has done alot of damage to this game)...foods...etc...

to me its no different...i have mixed feelings about it all...it some ways I do see some good...but the good could have been applied to the pre-cu game..they chose not to fix it.l..

TBH..I'd rather have the pre-CU and my old friends back playing....

instead of spamming the same move in a macro now they alternate 2....

And they've introduced a game mechanic to ADD to macro'ing that spams a move for you.

(I still run macros when I fight. )

To be fair, this system is more involving and perhaps that's why it's as frustrating as it is. I am forced to be CONSCIOUS of the fact that I can't do anything until a little timer, which for our prof isn't even working correctly, says I can start the warm-up for my next move. Hurry up and wait.

Its only more involved because we spend our time watching buttons rather than watching the action...

those were some of the things we wanted removed from the old system anyways, along with reducing armor from 90% to maybe 60%..
The CU was extreme and uncalled for. We specifically gave them an expectation, including these broken things you mentioned, but they secretly went and made an entirely new combat system which sucks, and they had to have known we wouldn't like it because they didn't let the alpha testers in nor did they allow open beta to go on for a few days.
They pushed it live so that they can say "opps, it's too late."
They knew it sucked. They didn't scrap it because it was their baby. Their pride and joy. It wasn't what we asked for.
We haven't forgotten nothing. As often as you troll the forum spreading your negativity just for the sake of arguing with everyone all the time, I'm surprised you never saw the frequent mention of people asking for the old system back with the changes (and removal) you mentioned as broken above.

And that's what I've said before, we agree.
Bah. My post here wasn't negativity, I'm saying that both systems are/were very broken in their own ways and people who think pre-CU was a garden of delight of some kind have very short memories. I don't even think you understood my post from your reply. I didn't say anything supporting the devs and their decisions as right. I said explicityly that people complained about those things, how else would I know unless I did see the frequent mentions of those things? I was in the "alpha" test, I know what was discussed and what actually came out for beta. Don't try to tell me I didn't hear people complaining and asking for things to be fixed and removed from the old system.
I'm just amazed at the people who say the pre-CU system was balanced and completely great. It was broken in different ways and the foundations of the system made it too hard to balance things the way they were. But no one expected many of the changes they introduced in this version of the CU. An alternate universe CU was what were we all hoping for. We're just in the wrong universe...

I'm not sure if your forum registration date matches your game registration date, but assuming it is close, I'd say you didn't see enough, at all. Toward the end of 2004, they were working on the CU, and all requests for fixes were met with the respose, "Wait for the Combat Upgrade", and so they refused to make many fixes. Yet people complained and complained and complained about so many imbalanced things, DoTs, buffs, the mind pool, etc etc etc. So many things. I'm shocked at how many people have quickly forgotten how broken the old system was.

Actually the CU was originally meant to be released in Nov 2003 i think it was. Or so thats when we were told they would be releasing the CU.

well, this thread was just a survey to start with but has turned into a comparason thread which is alright. The key word is slower, slower means takes longer, which means pay more. People have the complete wrong idea of SOE's intention with the cu. First, the old dev team is gone and eq2 programmers were brought in to cut costs, thats why this game is nothing but a eq2 copy with star wars characters skins. Secondly I really beleive that soe thought, well lets make it slower so they have to take longer to get to the end game so we can have more montly subscriptions. Big mistake. Jedi players have worked hard and the overwhelming majority hate what has happend to their hard work. SOE has went too far and cannot change whats going to happen to this game. People say that these games have a shelf life and the popularity fades so does the game. Not in this case. This games shelf life has been cut to a 1/4 of the time because of the cu. The changes are too drastic, documentation in this game is non existant, csr's dont have a clue, devs and corrs dont develop and corrospond. An example of a game that has been viable online for many years is starcraft. They did the smart thing and didnt change anything. They have 4 times the players that swg does and still keeps more people online at any one time that soe does.

Just recently I have been getting tons of emails from other mmorpg'swith free monthly trials and they directly address in the emails that they are customer orientated and some other ominous messages that address what we are frustrated about in this game without directly mentioning swg. There are other games that want your monthly fees guys, and they are actively seeking swg members with the promise of more fun and less headaches.

No MMORPG that has been around for more than 6 months will have up to date documentation. StarCraft is not a MMORPG. There is no comparison.

As to the emails, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. Go to any MMORPGs official boards, you'll see the same complaints, the same griping about customer service, no content, imbalance, everything. Not to mention the same predictions of doom and gloom from the disgruntled members of the player base. Year two of UO, FotM line was "When EQ comes out UO will not last 6 months." So much for that predicition.

If you really think another game will be so great, go ahead and leave. Those of us enjoying this game won't miss you. You don't have to be a drama queen about it, really. It amazes me that people who profess to hate the system and customer service so much keep paying and playing.
