Uneffective unless you are used to it and anyone in the group too.
Classical hunts of non-pack mobs gives faster xp if you have a puller that aggroes critters one by one....
Why?
Because most specials that are not area deals more damage than area attacks.
I tested area groups and always lost TONS of time for nothing.
And spin attacks for jedi have a big force cost where smaller hits have smaller ones... meaning that a jedi can keep making xp instead of resting to restore force.
Area groups give faster XP while you are on a lair, but not for long lasting hunting sessions
You are a noob. An effective area attack group brings in more xp any time. Try getting 3 mil Jedi xp in a regular group in an 8 hour period.Message Edited by RoundWallKing on 09-21-2005 11:12 AM
Ohh, yeah, i'm a noob, that's maybe the only explaination i could get
My explanation : i'm a rifleman with a BIG gun and if i dare to make a area attack, i will draw all aggro and no one will ever be able to save me from beeing killed. Just because i do much more damage that everyone else and that no one can take aggro back in this case !
O maybe you couldn't even imagine that could be an issue in a spin group, but if someone is taking all the aggro, he can't make "decent" xp in a spin group (i had 3 healers on me last time, it wasn't enough, and it was only after the first area attack)
And by the way : i sure won't ever be able to get 3M xp in 8 hours.... just because i will never have a 8hour play session.... Only because i got a life, a job, a girlfriend and i want to keep them and prevent myself from auto-lobotomisation
Too much xp is bad for your health !

Change your weapon to something weaker. I'm always tanking for the groups I'm in and ocassionally we get the 1 or 2 ppl with uber weapons who draw the aggro away, but that is always easily fixed by them swapping out to a weaker weapon, which doesn't hinder the group all that much spinning out a lair.
We still spin out a lair at a fraction of the time than it takes to pull them individually.

Ok, sure !
That's it !
In order to be effective in a spin group, i have to make less damage !
That was so obvious, how couldn't i tought !
BTW, i still think classical groups are better in any point of view.
And i won't change my ideas, whatever numbers of "how much xp you made here, in that situation with this and this guy".
When i hunt, it's not for XP. I left a game that was only xp oriented and found in SWG a way to hunt and to have fun !
If your key is to make the fastest xp possible, go ahead. I do prefere to take my time... since how much xp you have tend NOT to give you more power or abilities.
So you *don't* hunt for XP, huh?
Guess killing lairs over and over and over again every time u log in is just your idea of a good time?

You guess right and wrong
See, i hunt with friends for animals ressources.... bones, hides, meat...
And it's a good way to take time with friends or to begin the evening. A little hunt, have good time because we chat a lot while we are fighting (most of the time without armor to have a little more challenge, too easy right now), then we go to the cantina (not for beeing buffed), keep speaking, invite some more friends, go to say hello to some other friends
So, i don't start hunting just when i log in, but when i want to see friends and when there are ressources to collect... So almost every evening... And not more than one hour for the longest hunts.
But sure, i have fun hunting with my friends !
100x more than when i went to those 'spin groups' that doesn't accept players under lvl 80, that sometimes are jedi only, that sometimes don't want you because you have a BH badge in your bio.
And i also have fun with random people i group with, whatever level they are, the key for me isn't the xp, but the time spent together and the best group i joined weren't the most xp effective.
Maybe when you will get your head out of your grind you will discover another world. I can only wish you do.

Hate to butt in, that's all fine and dandy but I'm positive the OP's question was regarding xp gain.

Your reading comprehension leaves much to be desired, as the intent of the OP was to discuss -- very specifically -- group grinds and spin groups. You are either unable to understand that or you are trying to hijack the thread with your very boring and lengthy discussion on the benefits of hunting for resources or just to catch up with your friends. That's not the topic of this thread, please try to stay on topic.
Do not tell me how to play the game or how to discover new things in it, I've been playing for over two years and know it pretty darn well.

Hey, i just give MY input about xp gain : Classical groups are better for me because i'm able to make faster then while i'm in an areagroup
Stop seeing hijacks or anything just because i don't agree. I'm in the topic and was just answering your questions about my own experience.
Thanks about my reading comprehension, but i still think the fastest way to gain xp for the most is NOT area groups.
Maybe for used to areagroups CL 80 jedis.... But far to be true for everyone...
And that's what hurts me : when i see a lvl 15 player using a CDEF pistol and a big armor giving him HUGE indrance (accuracy, movement, rate of fire...) beggining to yell "Looking For area group"
Do you really think the fastest way for such a player to make XP is going in a aera group?
Like back pre CU when i was seeing guys with cdef rifles, composite, full buff attacking quenkers and hitting them for 20 damage per hit.... Or those TKA wannabe in composite against those quenkers and hitting them with unarmedhit1....
Is areagroup the new way to make fast xp because a few said it was?
I really hope NOT !
BTW : initial post is
Hi just wanna know are group grind/spin group worth the risk?
My anwser was already given : not worth the risk and the time you spent in unless you only care about how fast you make your xp

Once again you prove your noobness. Any character that has an area attack can benefit from spinner groups. I make it a point to help out a low lvl character when I can and all they ever have to say is they cant believe how much xp they are getting. Your method of grinding is old and slow. I dont need to list reasons why because this topic has been covered in the forums 100 times already. If you dont know you truly are a noob.

If you *cannot* understand that XP gain in a good spin group moves at lightspeed compared to regular groups, then you are beyond any help... there are complete n00bs with more sense than you.

With those arguments, i have only one thing to add to this thread : i'm proud to be a slow old noob because that means i'm not like you.
Give me a call when you have finished your template to tell me what you will do next.
@pussycat : i don't call 1.2M rifle xp in half an hour something that is slow.... call me what you want, you can't even imagine i found a solution that could be better, so who's the one that does not want to listen?

No need to start a flame war. Spin groups are NOT for every template. A MR/MCH would have a fairly tough time optimizing the xp gains from a spin group. While I personally have a template optimized to gain xp from spinning, it doesnt have to be that way, and no one is right or wrong, from a certain point of view. While spinning is the best way to gain xp for me, it would not be for my son's toon, which is the template above.

Sure, they're lame, but Jedi can pass on it. I don't realy mind them, just realy hate seeing all the non-Jedi doing it.
