From what I've heard the EQ2 crafting system was simplistic at best...have I heard wrong?

Apparently, the closest any game may come to SWG is one launching in 2006 - it's called Dark and Light.

I don't know but there has got to be a reason that only 150,000 people play that game.

There are three:

- The grind is slow

- Progression is too linear

- The landscapes are not only too limited to explore but they're hard to get into.

It's not out yet, but it will leave SWG for dead.

The crafting in EQ2 is very different than here. Pretty much every ingredient has to be harvested (mining, chopping, fishing etc) and the crafting process is a lot more involved than here - You have a different set of crafting skills that you use during the crafting process and these affect the final quality of the item you produce.

Basically EQ2 is the game swg will eventually evolve into, You can demo EQ2 for free for a week or so with no committment, so have a look

no thanks....not into the whole running around stuff. I like to play games in which we pretend that there's a thing called technology

That was the game that Raph Koster, the original creative behind the old SWG, worked on first. He moved on from SWG and now lookt at it. Sigh.

He's Creative Director of all SOE now. The company has two major plans now - to bring out a big new game in August next year and also to create a game model that is free but you have to buy - spend actual money - on the very best items and area accesses. I guess he's working on those.
