I havent heard anything about them changing the system, i can only hope we get that lucky.

As far as I know, tuning is COMPLETELY RANDOM. The higher the quality of the crystal, the better the chance of getting a good tune. Thats about it. Which mob the crystal was looted from makes no difference.
Also, pearls are the same as crystals. Higher quality, better chance of good tune. Nothing can garantee youa good tune.
However, I am supersticious and only tune with a full force bar, while wearing my robe

Me too! I wear only the Robe and no weapon, I pray at the Jedi Shrine, I turn to the East and do /spit three times. Than I bow to the Shrine, take a knee again and than tune... Do that before each tune... It really helps!

I tuned a fair crystal a month ago, and had to keep it just for kicks:
-5 min/max
0 fc

My premiums to date are...
Crystals
42/42 -7
Pearls
50/50 -8
28/28 -8
I've tuned tons of poor up to select crystals 99% of them tuned crappy, a few are barely usable, but I did get one at 32/32 -9(this one was a "good" crystal).

I have had best luck getting Prems from Krayts.
I have 7 prem pearls and 1 Flawless that tuned the following
50/50 -9 (Exceptional)...yes actually says exceptional
49/49 -9 Flawless
50/50 -9
50/50 -6
49/49 -9
48/48 -9
48/48/-9
47/47/-9

Man... when someone hits the lottery they REALLY hit it...
I will have to take a pick of the pack full of display crysales/pearls.
I got over 20 premium pearls that are -5 FC or less and almost 30 crystals ranging from goot to quality to premium all tuned to crap.
Out of an easy 100 crystals/pearls tuned I now have 2 -9's and 2 -8's, 4 -7's and maybe 5-6 -6's, the rest are -5's and lower 
/sigh
I have tried everything, with and w/o robe, force meditating and not force meditateing, with saber equipped no saber equipped, at a force shrine standing, or meditateing. No matter what I can get crap for tunes.
I loot tons of premiums of giant krayts, come canyons, some quality off juvies. prem. crystals off elders, SCM chicks, spider clan elder, and one off a DJK NPC. Sheesh, I think somepeople like me get hit with the ugly tune stick or something.
It has to be borked. I cant belive how many mobs I have killed for 2 stupid -9's and tehre almost wore out now /sigh

I have tuned one premium crystal that i looted from a nightsister elder, it was awsome: 9 damage, -2 force cost. I don't even bother putting other crystals in my gen 4 cause i own every jedi and melee stacker i see with it.

Im definately beginning to think Pearls are alot better than Crystals.
Tuned around 25 prem crystals now and my best was -9 44/44 rest were not as good, sometimes as low as -3 17/17
Today tuned a Flawless pearl and it came out -9 50/50 but put it in saber and it reduces FC by 10 so is it -9.9 or something?
End of the day, dont think I will going with crystals anymore, GL!

Ituned a premium Today and it is 47 47 -9. It was my first premium.

Where would you guys recommend me going to get some good crystals then? NS or Krayts?
