thanks everyone for the suggestions. when i came up with my template, i wanted to mirror Count Dooku who believes in both the elegance of a lightsaber and the power of the darkside. Dooku as i gathered from reading the books and EU, is a LS master with a specialty in LS to LS duel due to being a Sith (Jedi were less versed in LS to LS duel because they thought the Sithwere extinct. With the exception of Obi-wan and Mace, many focused on specializing in defense versus blaster fire and "diplomatic" uses of a saber.)

Thiswould imply a Master Powers and at least 2 trees in LS. Since he is a duelist, my guess it has to be 1hand and 2hand trees. If he were a Jedi and not a Sith then maybe he would have either LS 4xx4 or LS x4x4.

Despite Count Dooku being very old, he is able to move faster than what his body will allow. Also Dooku is able to duel multiple Jedi at the same time so he has to be able to take alot of damage.

This would imply at least Enhancer 4xxx for the Force Speed and Defender xx4x or Ehancer x4xx for the defense.

So you put these together plus adding healer, you can havetemplate under 250sp. Unfortunately, you consume way too much force which is the dilemma!!! So it seems that channel is a necessity.

What you guys think of Master Powers, Lightsaber 44xx, Enhancer xxx4, Healer 4xxx, and Defender xx4x?

In my opinion, you make slight mistake here by getting the second tree in sabers. If you are really looking to mimic Dooku, you should drop the x4xx line. My advice would be to put it in the tech line for saber throwor get some speed into the template.

I would adjust it to have either of these:

LS x4x4

or

Enhancer 4xx4

For the "in your face" type fighting with powers one cannot be effective without the armor break from 2hand sabers. Even if the person(s) you're battling have some sort of resists to armor break the fact that this move will reduce armor effectiveness in some form helps dish out more damage. Also, by keeping the technique line not only will he gain access to saber throw but also an added damage modifier on his saber which would give him just that more of an upper hand depending on the situation.

Totally agree with your insight on this one Veustuh. That is why my own Mpwr template has LS x4x4. However, Seraph seems to really like having a bleed, so my suggestion was centered around that.

Bah.. missed that point. At one time I looked to pickup 4/4/0/0 LS for the additional bleed DoT to stack with choke though I used the skill points for 0/0/1/0 Defender. The added melee, range and force defense isn't much but when you're at zero or near that any amount helps.

what "added damage modifier" do you get from the technique line (LS xxx4)? if i remember correctly, saber slash has a dmg multiplier of 1.2 and saber throw has 1.8 which is the same as body/head/leg hit but consumes more force. is there another attack that i am missing? (if so that explains why i suck so much...lol)

and yes, i love 1 hand saber. call me whatever since i prefer form over function, but 1-hand saber has the coolest animations and looks moreof astance used by an actually jedi from the new trilogy (see obi-wan in ep 3 versus grievous...1hand FTW!!!). 2hand animations is definitely old school and needs to be changed. the positioning of the hands by the crotch in a front stance is from the old school trilogy (see luke's initial stance versus vader in ESB). this stance is more of an offensive stance of raw power and aggression made famousby the samurai in feudal japan. the positioning of 2hand should be propped up and by the ear similar to how a baseball player holds a bat while sitting in the batter's box. this is more of a defensive 2handed stance and a better fit of a jedi who uses the force for defense. this is more prevalent of a 2hand saber stance from the movies (see luke holding a saber in ROTJ before attempting to strike the emperor, obi-wan and qui-gon ignighting their sabers when their ship blew up aboard the trade federation ship in ep 1, and every single jedi in the geo arena in AOTC)

i guess since this is star wars galaxies, i want my experience to be similar to the star wars movies...its a longshot and something to wish for but can you blame me? =P

Each full tree of sabers grants you something like 25% increased damage to which adds to your modified damage output. Just two trees of LS grants about around 200 more dps than say a non-LS Jedi and around 200 less than a MLS. Unless things have changed since I had MLS post-CU this is how it worked.

ive been looking at templates again today (still havnt decided) and one i came up with might interest you

mpowers, enhancer 34x2, healer 4xxx, sabers x4x4.

nice offenceive powers, good force management, good healing...tho maybe a little lacking in defence, force armour is there if needed.

current template;

master powers, ls x4xx, enhan 4xx4, heal 4xxx, def xx4x.

for me...

force armor took up to much force after pub 19 or 22 (whatever), force aura helps me a lot when stack with right foods, armor break is to critical of a skill to pass up (like cloak),

and i would like to drop fr2 (cause of damage nerf) but i would be left with 7 sp and nothing to use them on

meditation is slower then it use to be but can make a difference (seeing how for jedi life = force), this temp is good for me for now but im waiting to see what frs brangs. i have not lost to a bh(since choke has worked proplery) and had ls x4xx since i started this temp.

like u said its all in your style and how u play.

I am strongly debating if I should switch from 0044 lightsaber to 0404, the difference is crafting a new Two-handed that will result in roughly 615-707 damage vs my pre-curb 625-723 lightsaber, but the upperhand seems to be power attack and armorbreak then I come to think... do I really need it? I have not had any trouble getting by without those two attacks.

It all depends on what you do with your Jedi. If you are mostly PvE and fight BHs, then AB is not necessary since you have Choke which does the same thing. If you fight mostly Jedi, then AB is crucial, especially against those Defenders that have aton of innate armor and dodge alot since every big hit counts.
