See my post above....

They don't "stack", per se, cause they don't work on the same calculations. But their effect is cumulative, yes. Your aura can make you get hit for the min damage of a weapon, instead of the max damage, and your force armor can make you take only 60% of the damage instead of the full 100%.

Short Answer: Of course, Imprvd Armor is better than Regular Aura.

Longer Answer: They work on different principles. At least once a day, someone posts a topic asking what the difference is between Aura and Armor, and how they work, and which one is better. Save everyone a lot of time and effort and just search the forum if thats the info you're looking for with this.

That was mean. Some people just have some deep down issues.

But anyway, I think Aura is better, but if you do it go Improved Aura.

IMHO.

No deep down issues, but thanks for the concern.

It just gets boring writing the same multi-paragraph explanations once every day or two because someone is too lazy to go back a page or two in the forum, or too lazy to use the search feature.

Ahh, I think im gonna grind this out....

60% of Min damage sounds nice.

How does FA work? How much force does it cost? How long does it last? Is it as force efficent as Aura?

Those numbers aren't exact. As someone else posted, I think the actual armor value added is 4000, give you a total of 6000 with the innate armor you get at initiate. In the CU, 6000 armor is roughly 48% aborption (you get hit for 100dmg, you take 52 of it). You'd get another 2000 for novice defender.

I believe Aura costs somewhere around 150-200 force to activate for 45 seconds. How "efficient" it is depends on your attacker, and how often they end up missing because of it, and how big a range of damage on their weapon.

Hnmm...the poster I just "flamed" was right in that they reduce damage differently. Improved Aura makes the misses greater and reduced that damage per hit (by increasing +500 to ranged/melee defenses), Force Armor adds innate armor I understand it reduces damage by about 55%. They do stack because they are not the same mods being applied.

That is so retar...er...not true, of course you can compare them... Weapon damage min/max, Speed, and Accuracy are "different", but you know what they have in common: ACTUAL DAMAGE done per second (which, ironically, accuracy does not factor into the dps SWG provides in game...go figure)
Same thing for Aura and Valor, they can be compared very directly: ACTUAL DAMAGE taken ! duh!
Now, if some techno-geek could just supply the stats on each, we can try to assess that amount.

Original poster was right. They can't be compared absolutely, abstractly, in a vaccuum. They can only be compared situationally, in the context of a particular attacker with a particular weapon.

Ahh, that is my question.

I know how Force Aura works.. I have it.

Im curious how FA works. I understand now about the absorb. I also understand they "Stack". By stack I was asking if you could have Aura and FA up at the same time. I guess the answer is yes.

Does FA stay on your forever? Does it have a timer? Does it only absord a certain amount of damage and then need to be reapplied? How much force is taken from your pool every hit?

Thanks

Scroll up a bit, I believe this was answered. Armor lasts for 30 minutes, has a small cost to activate, and from then on only costs force for any damage your armor absorbs. The rate is 8%, meaning if you get hit, and your force armor absorbs 100points of damage, 8 force is taken from you.

thanks

FA plus Aura seems like a pretty nice combo to reduce alot of damage.

Its the poor man's tank, yes.

I dont know about poor mans tank.. Id like to do a side by side comparison of a Master Defender with Improved Aura up and a 4 x 4 x Defender x 4 x x Enhancer with Improved Aura and Improved Force Armor up.

I bet the Dabble reduces more damage than a Master Defender. Granted the dabble will use more force to do it though.

I can do the comparison as long as I know what weapon you are being hit with.

I will givesome examples below with some rounded numbers, using basic attack

MDEF only: (Template 1)
7000 Innate armor, (always on, no force cost)
Improved Aura (+500 to defense)

Dabble Template: (Template 2)
4200 Innate Armor, (always on, no force cost)
4000 FS Armor, (8% of damage absorbed goes to loss of force)
Improved Aura (+500 to defense)

Attacker 1,Rifleman with a 500-1000 damage rifle
Attacker 2, Jedi with 600-700 damage Lightsaber with sunriders crystals for 210 heat damage.

Results:

Attacker 1 vs Template 1 = 194 damage
Attacker 1 vs Template 2 = 178 damage (~6 Force costper hit)

Attacker 2 vs Template 1 = 305 damage (205 std, 100 elemental)
Attacker 2 vs Template2 =279 damage (187 std,91 elemental ) & (~10 Force cost per hit)

I plugged all these numbers into my damage calculator listed in my sig, might be worthwhile to check it out. Force cost for FA is estimated because I don't know right off how it blends with innate armor in how much damage it absorbs since armor resistance is on a curve, but those FC's are pretty close to the actual value. Also, I did these calculations based on the attacker and you having equal accuracy vs defense (melee/ranged) If you want to know damage mitigated per pt difference in accuracy vs defense, see below:

(MAX-MIN) * .00066255

500-1000 Rifle = 0.331275 Damage mitigation per pt difference
600-700 LS = 0.066255 Damage mitigation per pt difference, (elemental damage is not mitigated by accuracy vs defense)

So +500 extra defense is mitigating:

165.6375 damage for attacker 1
33.1275 damage for attacker 2

Nice, thank you. Seems worth it to me. The only thing missing is the master box from defender with the greater force pool and better regen. (Aside from AI and Valor)

Which reduces more damage against a high level player (with high defenses/accuracy) because who cares about low to medium players anyways? are they a threat to you?. Point being, if something has multiplevariables, it simply requires that you apply the correct reasoning. If civilization in general gave up on comparing things because there was many variable and therefore just walked away from making the best decision, we'd all be carrying saying "ugga ugga" still and if lucky, tic-tac-toe in the sand.
