Thread: Force Aura Vs. Force Armor
Longer Answer: They work on different principles. At least once a day, someone posts a topic asking what the difference is between Aura and Armor, and how they work, and which one is better. Save everyone a lot of time and effort and just search the forum if thats the info you're looking for with this.
1.) This is a PAY site. People PAY to post here. Therefore they can ask any question they want. If you don't feel like answering it then don't. Being an ahole doesn't help anyone.
2.) Have you ever tried to use the search feature of this site? It is unavailable like 90% of the time.
3.) What are the differences between armor and aura? How do they differ in terms of mitigating damage? Consuming Force, etc.

Short Answer: Of course, Imprvd Armor is better than Regular Aura.

That was mean. Some people just have some deep down issues.
But anyway, I think Aura is better, but if you do it go Improved Aura.

I don't have Aura, so I can't comment on its effectiveness, but I do have Imp. FA and can state the following:
Goods:
30 min timer
adds 40 innate armor (4000 armor rating) = 6000 armor with the 20 innate from initiate
Stacks with innate armor from Defender
Bads:
Each successful attack made on you with FA active drains some of your force (really noticable if getting attacked by multiple opponents)
Armor Break does effect FA, not sure how much exactly though

1) Didn't say he couldn't ask it. Just suggested that it'd be faster to find all the other posts about Aura vs Armor and read them. There's a wealth of knowledge there waiting to be read, as opposed to him having to wait for someone to respond.
2) Yeah, just used it. In the first page of results alone, I found 8 different "Force Armor vs Force Aura" threads. Took about 10 seconds.
3) Ahh screw it, I'll just explain the whole thing in painstaking detail...
What they do:
- Aura boosts melee defense, ranged defense, and force defense by large amounts (250 at basic, 500 at imprvd). It lasts for a set period of time (30, 45 seconds for different versions.
- Armor adds to your innate Jedi armor (+60 I believe at imprvd).
How they work:
An attack in the CU can be broken down into 3 major stages/calculations: Chance to hit, Damage Dealt, and Damage Taken. Aura (and defense mods, in general) figure largely in the two two stages, while Armor figures heavily in the last stage.
-Chance to hit: Chance to hit is governed by the relationship between the attacker's accuracy mod for the weapon type used and the target's defense mod for the weapon type. The bigger the advantage of the target's accuracy over the target's defense, the more likely the attack will hit. If the target's defense is greatly higher than the accuracy, the chance to miss goes way up. Hence, Aura makes people miss you more often by greatly raising your defense.
-Damage Dealt: after stage 1 determines that a hit occurs, the combat system has to determine how much damage to inflict for the hit. It uses the attacking weapon's minimum and maximum damage as a range, and again uses the accuracy and defense mods to pick where between the Min and Mix damage should be used. If the attacker has a big accuracy advantage, the damage dealt will be closer to the Max damage of the weapon. If the defense is much greater, it'll be closer to the Min damage. Hence, Aura makes you take less damage from your attacker's weapon if you get hit by it.
- Damage Taken: After a hit is determined, and the damage dealt is calculated, the system has to determine how much of that damage comes out of your health, and how much is absorbed by your armor. Force Armor adds to your innate armor, and absorbs a percentage of the damage you are dealt. For every 100 points of damage it absorbs, it takes 8 force from your force bar. Hence, Armor makes you lose less health at a small cost in force.
Better?
Aura increases your melee and ranged defense (250 at basic and 500 at Improved), making you harder to hit and when you do get hit, making them hit closer to the min damage of their weapon. Thats why it seems less effective against Jedi, because our Min/Max difference is lower than regular professions.
Armor increases your innate armor (20 at basic and 40 at Improved), mitigating damage, and action as armor.
Force Armor gives you armor, just like any other armor, Improved gives you 4000, that plus your +20 (2000) innate with no defender will give you a 6000 armor rating.
Force Aura just increases your Defense, as in Melee/Ranged Defense,If you have +100 melee and +50 Ranged Defense, and Improved Aura (+500) then your result would be +600 Melee Defense, +550 Ranged defense.Defense mitigates damage based on a bunch of factors, (See my Damage Calc) It will also increase how much your opponent misses you, which in a way, is a damage mitigater itself.
NOTE, because of the low MAX-MIN range of Lightsabers (See my damage calc)Aura doesn't really mitigate much damage against a Jedi, maybe 60-70 pts at most for damage mitigation with Power Attack. It will however make them miss a little more.
