Thread: Devs on MMO problems
The funniest thing is that, i have friends who play eq2, lineage and wow who have never even logged into swg who says things like : yeah i heard it used to be decent, or yeah i met 4 guys who used to play it who all quit when the devs changed the game and who can forget the best one : i heard the developers are all about nerfs rather than actual fixes.
From what ive seen from some of the devs Blixtev comes to mind, he seems to think he knows whats best, hes an arrogant **edit**.

Well actually reading the 4 pages, we don't know if it is the case with the NGE.
For CU, yes, definitly.
But NGE is a new game. It takes balls to throw that up. They are ready for sacrifice.
Management says it is the game as it should have been in the first place. Yes it is, in a marketing point of view.
The Audience will be larger. Some of you might be leaving because you don't like what is coming and it is understandable. It is a new game coming.
If you believe that this will attract a larger, more devoted audience I would beg to differ. Common sense would indicate that this is the last gasp of a dying game. Word of mouth travels fast and most of it is bad. People that I know haven't played the game have commented in the middle of a conversation that they heard this game is toast.. There will be dabblers who who will, with their culturally truncated attention spans, explore this game for a bit but will move on to the next game with bright shiney lights and effects that go boom post haste.
Rumor floating around was that we were going to be shut down in January.
SW:G Japan is shutting down in January. However, SW:G US isn't going to last much longer. I give it by may of 2006. And really, I think i'm being very generous, it would not surprise me at all if they took SW:G offline by march, until the PlayStation 3 comes out, and then they might try reintroducing it for console only at that time.

Did anyone actually read Page 2?
Brian Green had some stuff to say that also applies to the whole picture, not that im sticking up for SOE but some people are overly critical.
Very interesting artcle though.
yes what Mr Green said made me want to punch his lights out, his attitude is the major reason why swg is in the state is it now. The developers seem to have a "we know what the players want" attitude, but then if they did, why did 16000 players sign a petition for the combat upgrade to be delayed, why are the forums in an uproar over the NGE.

My impression of Mr. Green was that he needs to get out into the sunshine a little more often. His comparisons of game development content for a mass audience and the very personal process of writting a story are not valid. Of course having written stories I can assure you that you look for advice, inspiration, and content from many sources including your target audience.

ok writeing a story is what the person wants to write. and i agree forget what other people has to say. its your story...
but a MMO game like SWG.. you got people paying every month... its not about what you want but what we want... your not in a good place right now you not listen to us... your trying to stay alive.. keep the money comeing.. to keep your game runing. but if you dont give us what we want.. why should we stay. its not what i want.... its what you want and what you think is good. its not about your needs. and about are needs. ... everyday i come home and i love to relex and have a great time on SWG. and maybe command my Jedi Council every night i come home. but if there is no Jedi Council what would i be doing? doing missions?quests ?yea im sure some people loves doing them buti don't find that fun.. being on the Jedi Council is my type of fun....fighting Dark jedis are my type offun.. its my need to roleplay and act like Master Windu or anakin skywalker from star wars...

Mr. Green's rant was an allegory of how things are in the MMO community and paradies the very essence of fan based content, through minority reporting. Such as we have here. HIs view and comparison is quite valid and illustrates how myopic people can be when it comes to dealing with so-called fun, gaming experiences.
