go with armor if ur not goin mdef then dont get the ranged def line armor is better just drains you more

I also have tried both of these temps and finally decided on the MLS, 4440 Def, 3002 Enh. and Heal 4000. Although you dont have as much defense as the other template it is more than enough to do both PVE and PVP. Comparing both in PVP I would have to say, in the long run you are probably better without FA as a Jedi can only last as long as his force pool lets him. If you are engaing in group pvp for example and are being attacked by more than 1 enemy your force depletes way too fast. Now what if a BH comes for you shortly after that? Low force = dead Jedi. There is no doubt that 1 on 1 the FA template is better off but when is it really 1 on 1 other than BH vs Jedi. And even that is not always the case. As far as dealing with BH's, the 4440 def template will have no problem dealing with them (unless you have a down right bad saber) 2 BH at one time is still not a problem and you dont have the force drain from FA. Pve, you can haveplenty of fun with this template as well. The main thing to remember with this template is you are not a master defender. You can last in the front line of pvp for a short while but not like a mster defender can. Synthetic steak will be your best friend along with alot of other foods. Just my opinion, as I am not much of a force conserver so the FA is the worst thing for me but many other people do love it. Actually seems like the 4040 def and 3402 Enh. is the new FOTM. I was 4440 defender, and changed to 4044 defender. Valor is about the only thing that gives me a chance against BH's these days.

Finnally someone else with sence lol.
RANGED DEF IS BROKE! take thexxx4 line if you want ranged protection.
I switched and got more melee def for creatures, AND I got Valor which makes me a great tank for most situations.

It made no real difference. Not near as much as turning on Valor.
Plus it gives me extra melee def which is what we are using at this time anyway.

It's broke, but still there. Your Melee Defense applies to incoming attacks from ranged weapons. Even if Ranged Defense mods from x4xx were working, you'd have the exact same protection as you do now.
Regardless, there's still a lot of Innate Armor in that line.
A. def 4040 / enh x4xx : 4200 innate, 8200 with fa
B. def 4440 / enh x0xx : 5400 innate
C. def 4044 / enh x0xx : 4200 innate, block
Neither is a bad choice and it depends on what you are looking for.
Choose A if you want decent all purpose armor and the ability to boost it at the cost of some force. Note: FA drains on damage taken, so the 4200 innate will lower force cost over just having FA and no defender.
If you want good all around armor and don't want to spend any force on defenses (aside from aura obviously) chose option B.
If you want to block a lot of range attacks, especially if coupled with MLS, take option C.

Through my experience with force armor i found that my 28 force cost saber was to high i ran out of force to fast and lost to people i had no problem beating with mdef mls so the key to force armor is your saber. and with valor it only adds block aginst ranged attacks but with the celerity line comes the root and god they help against everyone i have had fights go on for hours with bhs because i dont have a root.

but how much will i loose if i take that temp instead
sure i loose some iniate armor but i gain melee defens and the force armor really drain you dry to fast

Since i have a BH alt i will agree that valor is a pain in the butt....however if your looking for Jedi Vs Jedi or PvP nothing...and i mean nothing beats theForce Armor....I do have a 17 FC saber and from what i have heard that is notnearly as badas some and maybe that is why i havezero problem keeping my force up even in large scale PvP. I have fought many jedi that had the 4440 line in defender and they will lose everytime, they can't take the damage, and with FA running they can't dish it out fast enough either. So yes one on one 4040 defender > 4440 defender....and if you have a low enough force cost saber (I would say anything below 20 FC) than you can even stand up to and beat multiple jedi at once with little problems.

It is funny, for me the better choice I see is Def 0044 and Enh 3402.
With FA2, you will have the same innate has a master defender, and you will have aura for the 500 melee def (which works against range when you hold your saber) and with MLS, you have 50% block against range attack.
You do not save force cost on FA2 by having more IA before FA2 since the cost comes first in line.
The only drawback from Def 4040 is that when FA2 is not on, you only have 30 IA instead of 42.
Definitly an option to consider, and I think it is a good one for BH fight (provided you have a good saber)

Ok, my 2cr. Get 3402 Enh, 4040 DEF and drink vayerbrok(The block drink). IMHO, it ispretty close to having valor up but w/o the force cost(around 16 fill I think).
