Thread: 4440 def or 4040 def?

This type of post probably hasn't shown upin this forumfor a while thanks to the hysteria that the most recent crap pub has brought. So what would be a better temp for someone who bothPVE's and PVP's? I don't even want to ask if it would stand up against a BH with the one-hit incaps going on.

To anyone with these temps... is the force armor gained in 3402 enh worth losing the extra tree in 4440 defender?
I have 3/4/4/4 LS - 4/4/4/0 Def - 3/0/0/2 enh - 3/0/0/0 Healer.
I'm no Mdef. But I'm a pretty good backup tank for when the tank is taken out of the action. In other words I'm no slouch, but then again, my armor isn't even as good as a TKM's. So keep that in mind.
I see mixed results with Force Armor and 4/0/4/0 Def. I've watched people with FA, and seen what happens when they run out of force. (They drop hard and fast, like a hooker who just made $1,000.00)

The x4xx line in defender is not worth having since its ranged defense, with way defense works now that would only help you when wielding a ranged weapon. The added Imp. Force Armor, enhancer x4xx might be worth considering or since you have chosen MLS the xxx4 defender line for Imp. Valor could help as well since it adds to your saber block. There is also the Sap/Shock line that could prove some worth but that would be up to you and what you like to do. Just some thoughts, hope it helps.

with a good saber the one in red is your best bet....unlike the other you do not need foods to be a nice tank in PvE and PvP....only down side to this is if you have a crappy saber than you will drain your force out to fast compared to the damage you will do....

If new FRS becomes more one on one based.
Like I said, 4044.
Read that link I posted, the Def line is BORKED. Its also stickied at the top.

totally agree, i dropped Mdef to grab MLS (I chose not to double master) and then put the rest in 4000 healing and 1004 enhancer (but changing to 0004 enhancer and grabing some other block, speed1 does nothing for me). I love my template and don't see any reason to change it now...

My problem with this is that you lose the innate armor from the x4xx line. That innate armor is good against Jedi and BH alike. Valor is only good against range attacks and there is no innate armor in the xxx4 line.
Valor=great against ranged but not so great against anything else.
def 4440 = 54 innate armor which is 44.8% protection
def 4040 = 42 innate armor which is 37.4% protection
def 4040 and fa2 = 82 innate armor which is 56.6% protection
Do you want 44% protection all the time at no force cost, or 37% all the time with the capability to boost it to 56% at the cost of some force? Neither is a bad decision.
I have the 4040/3402 template. The force cost on FA2 is not bad with the innate and aura running. IMHO I would take either of those templates before Valor. With mls, aura, a PSG, and some food you don't get that hurt from a single ranged weapon. If it helps put anything in perspective, pre-Pub 24 I could solo a Juvy or Canyon without FA2, or tank a spin group of CL81 Pikets with it on. Good luck.

I dont understand why forcearmor drains like 25-30force per incoming hit in pvp,a small skirmish can drain you completely. Def4440 is so much better in my opinion
