I have similar friends that also love their profession. What we do not know is the ratio of people wanting Jedi vs. the ones that are happy with the existing professions. I believe that more (many more) want to be Jedi. I would add to #2 that people would also stay if they were working towards becomming aStronger Jedi. My guess is that the grind to become stronger would be modified if Jedi were to becomea starting profession.
- 10K to 100K suggests they can multiply their business by 10X. That is impossible, and on top of that, the most they could hope for is to double their Business. There's not a large enough market to take to do any better.Let's look at the math:
- 1,000,000 customers: 50% leave due to the changes mentioned, most because their friends have left to other games. 500,000 players left.
- They add another 250,000 players. This is the maximum amount of customer increase that could be expected in the first QTR. 750,000 customers.
- 90% of the remaining 500k and 100% of the 250k begin the Jedi Path. That's about 700k Jedi's. Let's say that only half of these players attempt to become Jedi, 350k Jedi.
- 350k to 700k Jedi = A colapsed economy. What to Jedi do? Loot and quest. The market will be flooded with these items. Prices of crafted armor & weps will soar due to a lack of market.
- Does anyone think that SWG can support at least 45% Jedi? Does anyone really think that there won't be 70% Jedi?
We really do not have the data to know. i assume SOE has exit interviews that suggest a certain number of people would return if Jedi was a starting profession. Also, they might have outside data suggesting new players for the same. It would be interesting to know some of these numbers. I would really be interested in the number of actual players with 2nd 3rd 4th etc accounts. You make good points regarding the economy. I have not thought about the number of Jedi the system can support. Maybe the new FRS would allow for more. Maybe the game would become more like WoW.
Without actual data, we can only guess at the number of subs to SWG. I do know people on my friends list that are online has diminished greatly. I am suggesting that there is a point where it would make sense ($) to allow Jedi as a starting profession.
