From some of my side-bar dev converstations, it is becoming apparent that they aren't looking at Jedi as a 1.5x template anymore. In fact, one dev specifically stated that he didn't think Jedi should be any more powerful than any other profession.

At this point I disagree that we should ever be calling for balance between other professions. We should instead be insisting that they treat Jedi as the alpha class that it was originally intended to be and not "just another profession".

I called it

Good Call - I am surprised more are not commenting on this. Wonder how many people will return to the game if Jedi is just another prof. I knew many who left because they only wanted to be a Jedi. Wonder how much $$$$$ SOE will make if/when they make the change?

huh??? It is so easy to be one now it is laughable. The only gate is the time between phases. So anyone, and I mean ANYONE who wants to be a Jedi just needs to play.

The people I know left due to the time requirement. They are prolly some the older players of SWG. They had full time jobs kids etc. At the same time, they were BIG Star Wars fans having been teens when the first movies were released.

thats me, though I was 5 when the first SW was released, I grinded my jedi (preCU) every morning before work and every other day after work... sometimes on lunch breaks. I wasnt about to give up what i wanted most, to wield a saber in my favorite game.

I doubt making Jedi a starting class would make any difference. The people that wanted Jedi, not only wanted Jedi, but to be a very strong class also. If people hear that you can start as Jedi in SWG and come flocking to it they will be very disappointed to see they are just like everyone else. Most likely quit even. The Jedi as a starting class would not make a big difference as far as new customers like many think it would.

This would destroy SWG.

First, every Jedi I know would quit in disgust. Most have spent a considerable amount of time to UNLOCK & BUILD a special character. What's SOE going to do, give us all the grinding time back? And these are the players who have 2 or 3 accounts... the core of dedicated players. THE BREAD AND BUTTER. They need this Core to pay their checks. Only an idiot businessman will alienate his most dedicated, long paying, customers.

Second, 90% of the population is now grinding towards Jedi. What does SOE think will happen? Almost EVERY non-Jedi will begin doing Jedi. The game will become a JOKE.

Third, they won't start to get rid of professions. Have you ever seen a Armorsmith or a Combat Medic in the SW Cannon?

Last, what SOE should have done is make the Old Man visit based on time played. At year one you get an Alt. At year 2 you unlock BH orJedi. Etc...

I am a SOE customer. Now, if they would only treat me like one...

You are prolly correct on them wanting to be very strong. There is apoint in thethe number of subscribersthat dictates when SOE makes Jedi a stating class. Meaning the $$$ make sense even if the returners/new subs leave after a month or two. Question is where is that point and how close are we to reaching it.

A sound businessman would alienate his longest paying customers if it would quadruple his yearly profits.

If Jedi should be just as strong as any other profession, then:
-We should be able to wear armor
-Pearls drops should be fixed and rates for premiums should be insanely good
-we should get back the 5th, and maybe even a 6th gen lightsaber to balance out the new weapons
-there shouldnt be any BH terms
-We should get back those 24 FS skill points
-We should get the same amount of XP as any other melee profession gets
-Our trees should be adjusted so that it takes just as much xp to master a jediprofession as it does to master a melee profession
-Sabers shouldbe able tousepowerups
-Do away with the force bar

Moved up a bit in light of the CU2, but still not too high because I want to see how it pans out first.

How would it quadruple their profits?

  1. Requiring people to "earn" a Jedi over time keeps people playing longer and invests them into keeping the thing they have earned.

  2. Players who want to be a Jedi will pursue it, regardless of the difficulty, therefore playing longer.

  3. Players who want instant Jedi will have VERY little invested, and are prone to leave when bored. (the Vet's are VERY bored now and we stay)

  4. SOE makes money from keeping people playing, not getting them to start playing. Those who will only come to the game if they are Jedi are not prone to stay over time.

  5. This change will not increase the number of people starting to play SWG, since people who are interested in MMORPG's are a particular group, and most do not choose their game based on a profession in it, but gameplay.

  6. Last, they're not enough market out their to even double their player base, not to mention doing this they would loose 1/2 of their existing playerbase.

Why would anyone come to a Star Wars game if they could not be Jedi? Are they more prone to staying if they are Musician?

Maybe the FRS would be the separator of the starting class Jedi and the existing Jedi. Regarding point 6 the $$$ are what will determine the decision. Half of 10k is alittle different from half of 100k.

  1. I have friends who have NOinterest in being a Jedi, and love being Master Dancers / Musicians.

  2. They are prone to stay if they are working towards Jedi.

  1. 10K to 100K suggests they can multiply their business by 10X. That is impossible, and on top of that, the most they could hope for is to double their Business. There's not a large enough market to take to do any better.Let's look at the math:

    1. 1,000,000 customers: 50% leave due to the changes mentioned, most because their friends have left to other games. 500,000 players left.

    2. They add another 250,000 players. This is the maximum amount of customer increase that could be expected in the first QTR. 750,000 customers.

    3. 90% of the remaining 500k and 100% of the 250k begin the Jedi Path. That's about 700k Jedi's. Let's say that only half of these players attempt to become Jedi, 350k Jedi.

    4. 350k to 700k Jedi = A colapsed economy. What to Jedi do? Loot and quest. The market will be flooded with these items. Prices of crafted armor & weps will soar due to a lack of market.

    5. Does anyone think that SWG can support at least 45% Jedi? Does anyone really think that there won't be 70% Jedi?
