Fighting cannot be seen purely in this manner. Each fighter will have their strengths and their weaknesses. The opponent that can best address those weaknesses has the best chance of emerging victorious.

Ability is not all, and often strategy will win the day.

Yes and Palpatine used strategy to kill Windu, or maybe he just used Windu to get Anakin to the dark side, we don't really know. But I don't think Windu could beat Palpatine at all.

It is certain that Palpatine used the situation to turn Anakin, but the situation was no more in his certain control than with another Skywalker about 30 years later. The idea then was to sacrifice his father to turn Luke, but we all know how THAT one went.

Palpatine had no way to be certain that Anakin would turn, and had he not, Palpatine would most likely have been destroyed. It's pretty certain that he had to take this gamble to form his empire since Anakin would be his greatest enemy if he wasn't turned. Palpatine also understood a lot about Anakin's motivations, especially after having maneuvered him for so long. This doesn't mean that Palpatine was just faking however. It was a necessary risk to bring about his plans.

Hmm I see can you link me to the databank where it says Windu overpowered Palpatine ?

My pleasure:

"The two dueled, transforming the office of politics into an arena of lightsaber combat. Windu overpowered Palpatine the instant Anakin Skywalker came running into the offices."

And here is something to remember:

Unlike the movies, (where a character might be lying about something and its left up to the audience to decide for themselves whether what was said was true or not), the databank simply tells us what happened, and is nota character that might be lying, so what it said happened is what actualy happened in the movies.

The information in the databank is not told from a character's point of view, and that being the case, isnt subject to debate as to whetherit was a character lying/faking/mistaken or not. All it does is present in written form what happened in the movies, not whatmovie charactersthought happened.

Here's another version of it (Mace's Databank Page)
http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/macewindu/index.html

Windu had disarmed Sidious and cornered the treacherous Sith Lord into the frame of his expansive office window. Fearing that Sidious was too powerful to take prisoner -- the Dark Lord still had control of the Senate and courts -- Windu moved to deliver a deathblow. Torn between his loyalties, and needing Palpatine alive to fulfill his quest for arcane knowledge to preserve the life of his beloved, Anakin acted. In an emotionally charged action, Anakin ignited his lightsaber blade and sheared off Mace Windu's weapon hand before he could strike Palpatine.

There you go.

A rollback is coming, perhaps. We can't be sure, and the mods totally deny it, but IMO, that makes it all the more likely. Hang in there, it could come at any moment... All we've worked for may soon come to fruition...

And their not different versions as in they have diff meanings, they both agree with each other. Mace's says he disarmed him, palpatine's says he was overpowered. They agree.

Well if by the database Windu overpowered Palpatine so why's thison the starwars.comtoo ?

It's one of the fieriest debates of online fan forums: when Palpatine was cornered in his office's giant window-frame, was he really overpowered by Mace? Or was he faking to lure Anakin? Could Mace really have gotten the upper hand on the Sith Lord? ...

George Lucas is the ultimate keeper of the true answer, and he's not telling... yet, anyway. If you had asked me in the Summer of '03, when the sequence was first shot, I would have had a solid answer. But, if you asked me in the Fall of '04, when the sequence was re-shot, well... for those who want to debate, it's best to know more of the story of how this scene came to be ...

So, if Sidious' entire duel played out before Anakin's stunned eyes, I'd be inclined to think that his fall was just for show. This changed after a screening George Lucas held for a few key colleagues. Their reactions underscored the shortcomings of the way this duel was constructed. Anakin's inaction was hard to justify cinematically. "The story was there, but it wasn't clear," said Lucas at the time it came to rebuild this scene. "It was too abstract. We opened up that part and looked at what we could do." ...

So... with this revised duel, if Sidious threw the fight, it places an awful lot of faith on Anakin's timing ...and he suffered a kicked-in face to boot. For what it's worth to those arguing, I doubt there's anyone who thinks Palpatine's serious when he claims he's too weak. That's obviously a lie. But was the fall into the corner that preceded his pleas for help a lie as well? ...

I think it's like the case where it says hereon the database that Boba Fettcouldn't escape the sarlacc but even though on EU (I think)he did.

That writer of that quote sounds like he is of the opinion that palpatine didnt throw the fight, as he talks about "it places an awful lot of faith on Anakin's timing ...and he suffered a kicked-in face to boot". So I dont really see how that helps your argument... but besides, theres a difference between something someone says that is on sw.com, and the databank, which isnt a person's opinion. And regarding your Boba Fett example, the movies part of his databank just says it seemed that he died, never said he did, and the EU says he survived, so that doesnt contradict the EU or the other way around either.
