Great in concept in every way, but not finished.

No. The old system was better by far in concept. I prefer individual mobs over CL-based angry bags every time. CU was not about balancing combat, CU was about cutting development costs, code base maintenance cost and maybe decreasing bandwidth by simplifying critters and NPCs. Nothing wrong with simplifying critters to make the addition of new critters and the maintenance of existing ones easier, but SOE did not make a whole lot out of it if you look at loot tables, for example. So I have to think it was all about cutting down costs.

I do not see anything better with the old system.

They should have licensed a 3rd party system and spent their focus on making a starwars game instead of spending all their publishesfixing their attempts to be innovative.

Reason: The lack of multiplayer pve content and Star Wars feel.
For 3 years I have tried to find excuses to stay in game but only the expansions offered me what I subscribed for in the first place: A multiplayer Star Wars pve experience with friends around the globe. I found friends but with almost no addition of pve content they dropped out one by one. Now it's my turn.

The way I see its basicly reshaping itself back to Pre-CU every Publish soon we're gonna need a Combat Upgrade Upgrade (CUU).

The old system was better in that you were fighting individual enemies. Nowadays, your fight experience gets determined by 2 factors of your enemy:
- melee / ranged
- CL

A CL 82 Krayt is nothing different to fight than a CL 82 Squill.
This makes combat dull, and I have yet to find anything that we got in return for getting more dull combat.

SOE is trying to somewhat improve this by introducing elite and boss marks, which only means more HAM and higher regen - nothing different really. A CL 82 boss is probably about the same challenge as a CL 87 without the damage penalty you would get for actually fighting CL 87.

Hopefully combat will get more exciting when mobs use mob-specific attacks as SOE is planning to do, when actually Nightsister will use Force attacks and you have to fight them differently than you would fight maybe Canyon Corsairs.

Imagine if SOE were to of poured in the resources used to design, develop, test, & all the debugging into
simply repairing the original game...I can almost guarantee they could have produced a superior game with
far fewer bugs and much less money.

I should point out that I don't hate the CU -if I did I certainly wouldn't be paying for it. However, it is just sad
that the mentality of SOE seems to be dragging things out to keep us paying rather than to truly fix the issues
this entirely new system has created. The anouncment of a new expansion is the perfect example of this.
Theypush outa new expansion to keep us paying a few months more rather than using all of those resources,
time, & man power towards debugging.

I love the CU, its better than before, as for duels lasting an hour (which someone mentioned) that happened before, I regularly witnessed duels that ONLY ended when someones buff dropped. These days it's a match between template, player cunning and patience. No More getting single incapped by a legendary weapon and then ridiculed because I dont have one. If I want to go grind I can, anytime I dont have to worry about finding a doc to buff me. I can even solo grind if I want to, I just have to pick mobs that wont all agro on me so I can do it carefully. Yeah it's pitifully slow but for mobs that are supposed to be equal level to me thats the way it should be. You wanna grind fast take a group. You wanna grind solo, be prepared for a long haul.

The game still has its bugs, it always did have. I'd be monumentally suprised if a game with this complexity and size and freedom to do whatever and go wherever you want did not have bugs!!. It's not like 30,000 lines of code or anything. I'd be willing to place real money that the ammount of code goes into several million at least. Bug finding is hard, bug correcting is even harder because 9 out of 10 times there are side effects ( programming technical term, look it up) that cannot be forseen.

Seems SOE is never going to win, if they don't push stuff outquicklypeople whine because "nothing's happening" and if they do push stuff out they get accused of producing buggy software. For those of you that exclaim "don't SOE test anything?" well I have this to say, yes they do, that's what test center is for, if you want to help instead of whining then create a character on test center, play there regularly, fill out comprehensive bug reports, try and help them. By doing so you will be helping yourself too. But I don't expect any of the nay-sayers to listen, all to busy wailing and wringing hands threatning to quit. Well if your going to quit just do it. This game is either the best example of its genre or its not. I think it is so I stay. I play the game and I fill out bug reports. Many of them.

They are mssing 2 things:

- Monster Attributes
- Monster A.I. (they are working on that one right now).

Look at the new monster attributes that is currently wielded by Creature Handlers:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=creature_handler&message.id=244032

Once they have started to use that system for pve, it will be very different and much better, level or not.

For example, a Level 80 rancor may have "Thick Skin" and "Vigorous Health", making them tougher than all other Level 80 monsters, while a Spider may have "Intimidating Attack" and "Staggering Attack" instead, creating a different kind of monster with less health but nasty attacks.

I believe pve is going to be far more interesting with the new A.I Changes brewing.

One last thing.. Of course SOE are in this for the money. Do you really thing any serious games company does it out of the goodness of their hearts? SOE cares about their money, we pay them their money, so they care about us. Inderectly of course but they do.
