Thread: Macros that cause damage

I don't get hung up on AFK macroing though I feel generally its bad for the game.

AFK entertaining macros caused a lot of damage to the game because it affected the virtual livlihoods of scores of entertainers and it created a terrible atmosphere in cantinas which were once a great place to hang out and BS with your friends and enemies.

AFK loot camping is an anathma to the game. It allows players to collect unfair percentages of the loot on the server and everyone has to pay through the nose to get it.

I don't support making it impossible to macro combat moves though. The whole point of the macro system is to allow you to automate repetitive actions more efficiently.

What do you care if while I am grouping with my friends (and running my mouth in Ventrillo and typing to them in /g and /gu ) if I use a macro to follow a team member and attack dewbacks? How does this affect you at all? How does it damage the game? Is there some great skill involved in pressing the F6 key 10,000 times that I'm unaware of?

The AFK Ryatt trails were a problem because it allowed players to progress along their profession more rapidly than was intended this is bad for the game because it forces the devs to nerf everyone else to balance it. But this situation was handled without nerfing the macros which weren't the issue. THe issue was that you could kill the Wookiees there with little real danger of being killed or incapped. Raising their HAM and spawning spiders there helpped slow that down.

But you dont need to move around with your spin macro do you? You just need to have your macro putting the group leader on follow and tell it to attack whatever he's attacking.

Combat macros are allowing people to get profs without putting any effort in, they are like going for your driving test, sitting in the back seat and having your instructor drive for you.

The question is why do you have to use your spin macro? can you not just put spin on auto attack or click the button? Is the reason that while your characters spinning you are in the bath or cooking dinner?

Combat moves in macros have lead to a large number of nerfs in this game - the Ryatt trail wookie mission is no longer as intended due to AFK grinders, the macros are being used to hit targets faster then the timers should allow and some Jedi even have the cheek to grief BHs for killing them while AFK grinding.

Do you not feel that macros without attack moves would make fights fairer, they would be based more on your speed, skill and knowledge of your moves rather then who has written or been sent the best macro? Maybe its just me but i PLAY galaxies to feel that i have improved my character and earnt his new skills, surely if you just want to watch your computer doing it for you then you are better off buying a DVD and watching that.

Can you list five good reasons why attack moves in macros should be allowed?

So, you'd rather it be only who has the quickest fingers? IOW: onlytwitchy, snot-nosed, littlel337 monkeys should be able to win? Not us old fogies with arthritis, eh? Is that what your asking?

I use macros with combat moves because there are certain combinations that I like to use repeatedly. I don't want to be wasting time in fight hitting damned buttons. If all I wanted was a button mashing game, I'd go play on my X-box.

I don't fault your intent. People have been complaining about AFK grinders and loot campers for a long time. But there are better solutions than disabling combat moves from within macros.

  • If there's a macro-related bug that allows players to execute actions faster than intended, then the bug should be fixed.

  • If it's AFK combat you object to, then ask that combat be disallowed while AFK.

But please don't ask that a fundamental game feature many people use without intendng to exploit or AFK grind or loot camp be removed just because you personally don't like it.

So would people feel that the following is an acceptable update to the initial idea?

1) No combat moves in macros while your char is in an AFK state?

2) No Looting in macros while your character is in an AFK state?

Taking the suggestions and reasons people use and like macros in combat would it make sense for SOE to allow them on the provision that you are at the keyboard?

Now the user would have to tap the mouse or keysevery few minutesbut this would be enough to tell the difference between someone who is ATK and typing to the group and guild (possibly even running to the toilet quick)and someone who is asleep in bed
