Thread: XP should have remained nerfed
But seriously..
The original poster seems like he wants all Jedi to be nerfed except for his? OR....
Now that he has a Jedi.... He doesnt want any new Jedi to come into the game. It's all been said before dude....
We've seen hundreds of posts like these....What do they accomplish? Not much if you ask me. I know....I Know...you pay you measly $15 a month and that gives you the right to say and post what you want. Thats fine and I applaud you. Start a petition or something.
SOE makes money with this game. They make a lot of money. This is a business. If they take away Jedi or never have introduced Jedi to this game they would loss and would have lost $$$$ MILLIONS of DOLLARS $$$$ ... thats a lot of money.
Do you think McDonalds is gonna get rid of their Big Mac because it makes people fat? Heck NO. It makes them MILLIONS of DOLLARS.

Just a few comments:
- Grinding does not equal content. Why should people be forced to grind?
- If you have the choice of losing 25k accounts (= $ 375k / month) while stretching advancement time by a factor of 8 or keep everything as it is, why is it a better choice to lose players?
- If a lvl 80 does not know a lot about the game: So what? Does it harm your gameplay? No.
- And to put this into perspective: Average xp in a group today is about the same xp as solo pre-CU. So no nerf needed.
/agree
Mindlessly doing missions is not content. It's just something that we have to do IN THIS GAME to level. Increasing that doesn't add a bit of fun to the game. Too many jedi? Move the timelime up, it's way too late to do anything else.
This is a game, not a second job.
Yes I'm a post-CU jedi. So? Was TKM for about 3mnths pre-CU and it took me about 3months to grind
to TKM, although I was going quite slow and enjoying myself, exploring and doing fun stuff.
And when I finally get my full temp, I'm gonna have fun. Help newbies in Eisley, do all the Kash
quests, do some spacing.
We grind as fast as posible to get out of the "work" part of the game and into pvp, quests and having fun.
As I personally commented somewhere else, the current XP system is not so much damaging to the game in Jedi advancement - but how it affects other combat professions who group with the alpha-class MDef lair spinners. I've been in groups where people have capped weapon XP in every weapon they are trying to level over and over again. I've been in groups where people have visited the Village 3 or 4 times in a single group grind session.
Anyone who says "this doesn't hurt anyone" or "how does it affect you" are missing the bigger picture.
Like many, I was prepared to quit when the XP nerf came online not for any logical reason, but simply because I had been so satiated by the existing system that I couldn't accept being slowed down. I wasn't full template at the time, and I calculated that it would've taken in order of magnitude months of play to finish my template off. Whilst I do think the XP nerf was ill thought and possibly a little too harsh (some people ran numbers that showed it would take years of average gaming to finish a template), it was much needed.
Half of the problem imo is that people are so used to the XP system now that there is huge resistance to change. If the revised XP system they introduced had been in place from the outset, and it really did take several months for a player to fully template a Jedi character - then there would be less Jedi, and those that remained would be at the top of their game, would know their templates inside out and - quite rightfully - be very difficult to beat, just as a Jedi should be.
Instead, Jedi are the dominant alpha-class that practically everyone is trying to be, and the Devs are forced to make Jedi "normal" because of it. It's basic logic - if a class is so powerful as to make regular classes - both normal and elite - practically redundant or vastly underpowered in PvP and PvE, then by definition people are going to aspire to become that alpha-class, especially when the barrier to entry is so low (even with 30:1 XP conversion - spin groups can cap peoples weapon XP in a matter of minutes, not hours, days or months).
SOE made the mistake of making Jedi so formulaic to get from the Holocron grind onwards. They buckled to pressure from people wanting to know how to get Jedi, when instead - if they had left things as they were, or at the very least made the Jedi unlock a true balance of quests, interactions, commitment to the game (time logged?), etc - then it would've remained mysterious, and Jedi could've been left as a true godly class.
As the original poster remarked, pre-Jedi the whole GCW was alive with regular PvP events - epic fights between Anchorhead and Bestine, etc. Nowadays its just a gank fest between FOTM Jedi and the odd person with a template that can just about keep up. Everyone else is grinding towards Jedi, or grinding their existing Jedi template. Eventually anyone who isn't a crafter, entertainer or pure roleplayer is going to be a Jedi, or have a Jedi alt - then the game truly will be finished.
SWG is very unique for a MMORPG in that it allows you to easily change your proffession.
The actual new in-game content in SWGis lacking somewhat, so this easy profffesion\template change actually makes up for alot of the content SWG has to offer.
Ok heres my stance on the jedi subject...........
Right now their are only 2 professions worth doing.
Bounty Hunter - Unique missions, powerful tanking ability, powerful damaging specials, and the ability to get really cool loot
Jedi - They are powerful in pve with unique abilities which enable them to get decent loot, padawan trials, village content, extra character so regardless how bad jedi get you have an extra character (which by now will be a BH)
Other professions - Sadly neglected, unfun, nothing unique to achieve or develop beyond master, no interesting missions which are repeatable.
People grind to become jedi because no reason not to to be honest now, you reach a full template you get glowy may as well do the village once you are glowy chances are youve done most of the content so may as well get in a spin group and get as much xp as possible fill the fs box's and get a jedi.
Now you have jedi you grind your jedi over a few weeks, i took me 9 months, because you cant do anything interesting because youll gain visability and might die to a BH lose xp and have to dig yourself back to being able to grind up more skills, though once you are full templated very few things you cant do in pve, esp if you pick the latest fotm template.
BH has the best template you can get if combined with master combat medic/rifles 4000 or master rifles/ combat medic 4000 what you have is the perfect solo template and as powerful as some jedi templates.
What you have in SWG is no reason to play a full mastery in most professions, im a smuggler i was before i unlocked and i grinded my alt as a smuggler and their is nothing to do and no progression once all the missions and content are done youve finished the game and pretty much out of options.
So non-jedi need to rely on GCW for their content and a reason to keep playing, in pvp their are so many jedi the rp'ers dont want to participate because it doesnt feel like Star wars GCW and pvp'ers dont want to fight because jedi fotm templates in a group are near unkillable by regular players. GCW dies and the non-jedi area of the game ends with lack of satisfaction and boredom, the through lack of pvp causes the few active pvp'ers to find it hard to find players to compete with and the arguements start about tef and the community attacks each other when the reality is the problem lies with the developers implementation of GCW, jedi and lack of implementation of other professioms.
If other professions were fun and jedi didnt receive an extra character on the server people would have options of whether they want to be jedi or not, people who choose to be jedi and want to play a jedi would be given thetools to play a jedi not some lightsaberweilding leet kiddie SOE is encouraging in making jed pvp against regular players because if jedi had to treat there professions with respect the community wouldnt think "oh god another jedi" they would think "Cool a jedi" and jedi would take there place as a respected profession.
SOE decided to make jedi a pvp profession so every pvp'er has a jedi now and most pvp'ers dont care about what a jedi should be but rather what skills the jedi has to beat other players, and this focus becomes a destrucive presence in the game what we see now.
In short NO reason not to be jedi and NO reason to be any other profession!
may it is like this.. you have a full teplated jedi (most probably warren fighter) and now you see other new jedis (and other people) grind just as fast as you did with an exploit, legaly?! pisses you off, so you go whine on the forum like all the other noobs that want every thing to be nerfed.
but hey really, would you try to grind jedi with the nerfed xp? (we got 200xp/kill) take a calculator and see how long it would take for full temp.. this seems nice to you?! dont think so...
whining leads to anger, anger leads to hatred, haterd leads to suffering (NERFS...)
the thing that wrecks it is theres actually people who have that attitude,i was talking to a guy a couple of months ago,hes only 16 and he was grinding for jedi (he's unlocked now) i asked him why he was grinding for it since its not really all its cracked up to be and his exact words to mewere "i just wanna pwn everyone" no wonder SOE took jedi power away when theres kids running around who just wanna "pwn" and be "uber" they dont use the power they have responsibly

Star Wars stuck a chord in so many people when it first came out because of its fantastic elements... and with the exception of Jedi, there's nothing in the SW movies AFAIR that couldn't be done by the average human, if he/she lived in that setting and had that technology available.
The only exception, of course, is Jedi, because it involves super-human elements. Thus it has had a similar appeal as superheroes, etc.
So in my opinion, for many of us the appeal is not to be "uber" and "pwn" other players, but rather to engage in some fun roleplaying that, however briefly, allows us to trascend the limitations of the human race... to be better than an average human (and ideally, to put those powers to good use)
So yeah, I *would* like to play a character in a MMORPG that had powers which trascend what humans are capable off... what's wrong with that? Everybody has at some point or another wished to trascend their human condition. The Greeks and Romans had Gods, 20th century kids had superheroes and, after 1977, Jedi, to look up to. It's the ultimate wish-fullfilment fantasy, tbh.
So I don't blame other players for wanting to have a toon with super-human strength/speed/powers. It's a basic part of human nature, as far as I'm concerned. It only becomes a negative if the player looks at it in terms of wanting to be a "uber" toon and "pwn" everybody else (it's one thing to wipe out all the NPCs you come across, but you can't be the same way about player characters because invariably many of them will resent it).
