so the first combat upgrade was for sh*ts and giggles???

Thats what I told my guildmates; that it was just a joke. During the Alpha the original plan was scrapped due to a deadline, had that deadline not been put on the game by LA, it may have been like this earlier.

hmm I see waht your saying. We all know the Cu was delayed numerous times(sounds like frs?). So maybe they intended to bring out this version as the Cu, but we were jsut getting to restless and they still had some bugs in it so they spent 3 months coming up with this piece of junk they call an upgrade. Now that were at the point of cancelation again, they have decided to release the real deal? If so it would make this game GREAT, but somehow I cannot buy that story when it is trying to be sold be SOE.

listen to what we're being told and you'll know that it's not coded... it's supposedly going to be added piece by piece over the next six months with "collision detection" coming at a later stage. please give me a break. there is so much lag already with swg that they are going to add collision detection to our clients?! no chance.

the developers have been working on the squad leader revamp and toow for the last few months... before that it was creature handler.... i spoke at length with dave the developer at the anaheim player convention and most of his resources were focused into the creature handler revamp with smuggler soon to follow. as of julio's announcement, all of those professions are to be removed from the game.

this is not something that was planned for very long. and i predict that it is something that isn't going to last.

i also am willing to bet that a good chunk of the development team has been fired.

ok that seems resonable, provided of course that SOE actually made the NGE. For all we know it was developed inhouse by LA or another company under contract and has just been thrust on SOE as much to there surprise as ours.

I can see where this is coming from too. Guys realized things were going downhill so they retreated and did an all out charge. This would be a worst case scenario, we have waited for a good year/year and a half for the correction of this game, I highly doubt many people will wait another 6 months. The other case seems to be the best case scenario, this will finally be what weve been waiting for. But yeah, this new system seems like it won't work with the lag swg servers get. I don't know how many people can fight there way through this one...

A former correspondent who was one of the testers for this CU posted that it has been in development since JTL. If you wanted a source for my comment.

Yes but the word "developement" can be stretched a far way. A guy sitting in his office bored comes up with an idea and tell is to his buddies and 3 months later it hits people in authority and then they "discuss" it. That would be considered development too.

I'm not saying this to be cruel or offened anyone in anyway but it seems to me that more MMO's are not considering the lag factor as much these days. While MMO's still claim they can be played with dial-ups it's really written on the walls that DSL or better is needed to play with any real performance. Take MxO as an example, that game was very unforgiving for Dial-up users. I'm not saying get a better connection, I'm simply saying that Dial-up seems to be on the outs for MMO's.

Then again it's very possible that the NGE will introduce some lag damping elements into the game, I've seen it done before. MxO again, I have no idea of the current state as I haven't played in months but by May there was a marked improvment in lag.

im talking about server lag. ever been to a huge pvp battle where it says you have been kded and your character is still running then no joke about 3 minutes later he falls down and your incap and dead, that has nothign to do with connection, its just server lag. I know that shuttling and whatnot is computer and connection lag, but this game has its fair share of server lag.

oh lol sorry, thought you were talking about packet droping and so forth. Yep, I agree, server lag can be a problem. This may be addressed with the NGE.

Here's hoping

Looks like to me that this "CU2" was all LAs idea. Because all of these profession revamps that have been going in are now entirely pointless. Or perhaps this "CU2" was intended to go in at a much later date, and now currently is far from finished but someone made the call to put it in early.

i don't think this was planned... they would not develop an entire squad leader revamp just to scrap it.

i guarantee that the upper level executives at sony decided to start calling the shots regarding the game to see if they might salvage the project before they shut it down. i do not expect these forums to be active in 30 days. give or take a few weeks maybe.

Creature Handler = A.I revamp
Squad Leader = The Officer profession
Ranger = The Spy profession

--- Cancelled 24th November 2006
Reason: The lack of multiplayer pve content and Star Wars feel.
For 3 years I have tried to find excuses to stay in game but only the expansions offered me what I subscribed for in the first place: A multiplayer Star Wars pve experience with friends around the globe. I found friends but with almost no addition of pve content they dropped out one by one. Now it's my turn.

They will keep working on the game for some more months, when it starts to slip (again) they release an expantion that will allow you to become a full spec jedi again, however it will probably be a long way to get there to make sure you keep paying for another 8-12 months

Thats my guess

Yeah and I have been dating Pam Anderson and Selma Hayek at the same time for the last year.

See just because I say something doesn't mean it is true. I am willing to bet that SOE has been using the same media spin tactics that the Bush administration has.

I agree that you don't revamp Ranger, Commando, Squad Leader, Creature Handler, Entertainer etc. and then say that the game is changing. This is crazy. That is misleading everyone who is playing the game.
