Golden Age of the Sith and the Hyperspace Warsfrom Dark Horse also illustrates some early history about the people and thier culture, as well as the travellers and Jedi that stumbled on the world and thought they had discovered deeper mysteries. After the council denounced such 'dark' power many Jedi left the Order in search of greater wisdom and knowledge. These 'dark' Jedi eventually took over rule of the planet. Years later after the culture was wiped out they were still referred to as Sith.

And of course it was Darth Bane who organized the structure of two after what was essentialy a Sith civil war. Many 'dark jedi' fell from the order throughout time, but were not considered Sith.

If you do some digging there's some really great stories, all of which have had Uncle George's stamp of appoval. Some of the pictures of early archaic lightsabers are sort of cool too...there's an energy pack that's worn on the waist, with a connecting cord up the hilt. really odd.

I own a few of these series, and they're all great. The story of Nomi Sunrider, Ulic Qel-Droma, and Exar Kun are all awesome.
