Umm..this is worded funny. If I equip a gun, pop a veg and shoot at it...that's base damage. I unequip the gun, the damage is reduced to zero because I don't have a gun to shoot at it with, and when I reequip it, damage goes up because I am shooting again. Or is this not what you meant?

Ok, so I lied a little bit...I'm posting a bit more

Jacella, you are a hoot!

CA's with melee defense mods only decreases damage for melee players

CA's withranged defense mods only decreases damage for ranged players

Always re-equip your weapon before combat, the newly added stats will not take effect until doing so

This has all been throroughly tested....trust me...save yourself millions from tapes, and space in your stomach for other valuable foods/drinks

Now don't say I never gave you nothin'

Can you elaborate more? Seems like you would use ranged def stuff against ranged profs, even if you were melee. Is it a bug maybe or is there some logic I'm missing?

thx

P.S your post only proves the need for me to have posted this. You, like me at one point, are simply confused as to what ranged defense means. The devs, or whoever, f*ked up the definition and confused people.

Ranged defense = defense for a ranged player (gun equiped)

Ranged defense does NOT = defense against ranged players

Please pay attention and welcome to the english language.

As stated previously "you must re-equip your weapon for the stats to take effect". Perhaps you are unaware of the fact your character's defensive and offensive "stats" are applied to your character when you equip your weapon. Or when clothing/armor is wornremoved with modifying attachments.

This means when you eat the "vege" the defensive modifiers will not work unless you unequip then reequip your weapon.

Thank you very much for your time. You have now been schooled.

Translation -

The foods do work, just not how we have assumed.

We have assumed that because there is a melee defense mod that melee defense food should increase that mod.

Likewise with ranged defense food/drink. This is not the case at all, however.

The 'melee defense' or 'ranged defense' as applied BY THE FOOD refers not to the opponent's combat style, but the PLAYER'S

The 'test' which has been offered basically says that you can prove melee defense foods affects your defense ONLY when fighting melee style.

Now that the translation is out of the way, thank you Keefer for the post.

I must go test this myself, very interesting stuff here. I sure hope you are right.

Thanks for your attempt to translate, I hope you are more successful than me. I am right. and you will soon thank me again.

Did you do this test with a character with 0 unarmed defense and 0 whatever weapon you used defense? Switching weapons will cause different defense modifiers to come into play.

No its a valid question. A TKM has "Unarmed Defense" which is only applied when unarmed. So if you have a TKM with a rifle equip he has only his base melee defense and will take X amount of damage. Unequip the rifle and he now has Melee Defense + Unarmed Defense for his total melee defense and will take less than X amount of damage.

Who has verified this? Some foods have an instant effect. For example, synthsteak works without having to re-equip weapon. Vayerbok appears to as well. Is it only vege and thundercloud that don't? Most foods apply when eaten so I would be inclined to doubt that only vege and thundercloud are the exception (though in SWG anything is possible). OP's point about equipping weapon was that if you unequip weapon and requip, you can see the change in stats (i.e. if I eat thunder with a ranged weap then unequip, dmg will go up since I'm now in a melee mode (fists) and will go back down when I equip rifle and go ranged again). I did not read anywhere that he said "food stats are only applied when weapon is equipped". Again, since the experience of the vast majority of players is that foods apply instantly, I'm inclined to doubt the above assertion without someone "proving" it
