Thread: CIVIL Discussion about a New FSCS system
LtBacon wrote:Honestly,I know that the current jedi want the system changed so that THEY can remain feeling special and rare. The fact of the matter is that they were in our shoes at one point as well. They wanted their FSCS. I know I, along with many others on this forum do as well and we've been holo-grinding to gain that fscs for months. I don't care if no one told us to do it, we figured that that was the way to get it done because so many more were unlocking by mastering professions.Again, I'm working on my 9-11th professions all at once, but I'm past that holocron and am trying to cut down the number of possibilities that my hidden profession may be. There MUST be a way with this new system to allow the oldschool holo-grinders to just keep on doing that.. grinding, if that's the way they liked it and let us do that until we do get our slot. With the jedi system, the entire profession by itself is hard to ever achieve master status, and I don't really know of ANY Jedi knights on my server at the moment. Jedi are rare enough just by the jedi system. There is no need to limit the number of initiates. What I'm saying is that the Jedi system will keep the actual number of people who reach Jedi status down.It just wouldn't be worth it to the majority of players who are holo-grinding to continue and become Force sensitive if there is a new system put into play, without the option for them to just continue and do the holo grind. Most of us who are hologrinding, like myself, have been playing since at least August of 2003 in hopes of someday becoming a Jedi. Now, we're close, working on finding that 5th and silent profession and to have that feeling of being so close stripped away will most likely result in many cancelled accounts. I'm almost positive I'd cancell both of my accounts along with many friends who play the game and most of , if not all of my current PA.There just has to be either an option for oldschool players to continue grinding, because that's what we like to do best, or integrate it so that the oldschool players can do the grinding and if they wish, still go after the FSCS with the new quest system. This way, we know we're still close and probably ahead of the game.Current Jedi shouldn't fear that tere will be more initiates as, initiates will eventually help you move closer to Master Jedi, by having people to teach and gain APP points from. I still believe that even with more Jedi Initiates, the actual JEDI population will remain a small and rare one.
Dude, from what orifice are you pulling all of this information out of?
The current Jedi could care less about how the unlocking system works. The only part of the "news release" that we're interested in is the permadeath part.
If anyone wants it harder to become a Jedi it's SOE, not us.

I dont know if its been said or not...but the devs have no way of tracking professions that you have done previously ... hence the profession badges not being retroactive. So ive done like 20 professions, but the devs have no way of knowing about the previous 15 before the profession badge update (except for the holo ones).
Just thought I'd throw that out there so when you come up with ideas for the new system.
As to how i feel about this whole situation...ive been putting up posts about changing the system forever. I was the one who started the "Raise minimum requirements for FS", and that had some interesting responses. Im glad the devs are finally doing something about this. It took them a little too long to realize no one was happy i think...but at least theyre taking a step in the right direction, in terms of communication with the community.
My basic idea would be something based off of this:
-Your character has to explore the world, maybe a number of designated spots, to find their specific Trainer.
-You would have to choose either combat or crafting type of progression. This way anyone is able to unlock without having to change around their character design.
-Your trainer would send you on numerous quests based on your decision. He could send you to one NPC and you would have to complete a series of missions for that person, then return to your trainer. He would then send you to someone else or give you tasks of his/her own. Quests would be hard, but reasonable. Hopefully involving different factions. Good Jabba faction, Nightsister faction, Nym, etc... Changes depending on what the quest is for.
-Progress could be controlled by only giving missions every so often. Maybe twice a week or something.
players that have already completed holocron professions would be required to complete fewer tasks depending on how many professions they have done.
I think the worst thing that could happen would be camping for loot drops. EQ was a disaster because of camping for spawns. Lets not repeat that mistake. Jedi training is a lot of solitary work and some in a group atmosphere this could be the same way. Training on your own or just with your trainer and aslo missions that require you to seek others out.
I think large group requirements are a negative. Solo or small groups seem to fit peoples styles the best.
I just think overall it would be much more enjoyable than grinding. People who have grinded are given a headstart because of that. You can throw in tons of stuff for quests/missions. You could have choices, mabye do some faction requirement. This would boost the GCW. The possibilities are endless. Lets just hope they are fairly creative with them.
Anyways, that's my $.02
Then all of a Sudden once you have ground out a few Professions you here a voice in your Head
Something to the effect of:" Hello there. Sorry for intruding into your thoughts like this. Allow me to Introduce Myself. Iam Jedi Joe and just got finish eating when I felt a strange Disturbance in the Force, but then again,it could have been something I ate. I wish for you to prove me wrong by meeting me at this private waypoint.
Ok so you decide to meet Jedi Joe at said waypoint where he try's to impress upon you that is 'indeed' the last of the Jedi. Well Just like every other 'Last of the Jedi' NPC's in SWG you want him to pt up or shut up,so Joe starts to send you on these little errands for him that at first seem to be nothing more than good samaritan until it dawns you that Jedi Joe just might be the real deal.Just like that Whack job hiding out behind the waterfall on Dantooine rooming with goodness knows how many pet quencker's.
You then stop and realize that thus far you have ground out holo's like nobodies business which in turn has garnered the attention of yet another 'Last of the Jedi' who seems to be sending you out on pointless missions.
Several pointless missions later you get tired of all this foolishness and you tell your guildmayes you will no longer be actively persuing Jedi. At this point one of the supporting characters of this scenario and most like ly the least loved among your guild <the one that generally acts as the voice of reason> steps forward to have a talk with you.
This guildie tells you you should not give up just because missions seem to be pointless. You counter that the last 150 were all pointless and that you doubt the guy is even a Jedi. Your Guild friend then reminds you of something that blind fury at this point has...well.. blinded you to: 'How many NPC's in this game have the ability to send you a Telepathic Fed Ex giving you a waypoint to meet them at? Dude. Those missions you think are pointless really aren't. It's Daniel-San and Mr. Miyagi all over again,Man.You know: Wax on Wax off. That whole Karate Kid thing where Daniel thinks Miyagi is trying to get free labor of him when actually is teaching him martial arts in a more cubtle way. This jedi Guy is slowly teaching you for the fight ahead!
Then the whole new Jedi system type thingy Dawns on you <summarized no less>:
You will continue to grind professions. Each profession mastered gets you closer to coming to the attention of a jedi in hiding who upon mastering all the necessary professions will send you a Telepathic E-Mail giving you a waypoint to meet him at. At this point he will be giving you all these wonderful missions/quests which in reality is you practicing and working towards Jedi Initiate. I.E. he may send you on a mission and tell you to heal somneone<tide to the Jedi healing branch of Padawan> or tell you to go master Fencing which is almost equivalent to the Single handed Lightsabre branch. After you have done all these 'pointless' missiosn/quests and a ready to give up and you do one last mission just for the heck of it.Good old Jedi Joe tells you tells you: Congradualations young one.Through all these first trials you have shown your dedication to our cause. Through these missions, quests, and professions I have sent you to learn. You have shown patience enough for me to continue training you and it is my honor at this point to award you the position as my apprentice and the Title of Jedi Initiate. Congradulations and I expect good things from you in the future. Now Stick around and I'll show you how to Teach Krayts how to play Poker and how to Fill out your Imperial Tax Return. <just kidding aboutthose last two. heh heh>
Fade To Black
Roll closing Credits
ANyhow. That's my long winded ,yet slightly enteeertaining scenario,as to how the system would be able to keep the old grinding holo stuff without punishing those who have already ground out professions.
Hope youenjoyed and thanks for reading.

I am very hopeful it will be like the Epic Quest in EQ... maybe with some alterations... but similar...
I for one am very glad to see this change... now the holo grinding may stop... and people might actually start playing the game again...
i am glad it is being changed. i dont want to grind ANYTHING else ever again. I would gladly move to a quest based system. i am thrilled it is moving away from professions.
But like everyone else i would not like the time i have spent already to be wasted. And it would be wasted. I spent weeks at a time doing things i had no desire to do. not being able to do things i wanted to because i was holo-grinding..all for the promise of a future reward... i think the player base would FREAK if all the time we spent counted for nothing.
Recognition to me is not some silly badge. It would have to involve getting credit toward the FS slot.Being one or 2 steps from jedi and having to start from scratch i snot accpetable
Since they DEVS have not stated where they are headed it is not easy to discuss how we should be compensated. The easiest method would be 5 quests = 5 holos, that is if you have completed say 3 holo professions you would get credit for 3 quests, or have the items needed for completion appear in your INV.
I like the idea of having the holos give hints on where to find missions. It could be as vague as "Your destiny lies in a swamp" as specific "Speak to some one in the Moenia Cantina"
I also really like the idea of having FS faction that is secret from the players. It could be a system taht has been discussed many times. Maybe you need to complete 3 of 5 paticular missions, visit 3 of 5 paticular locations. Get X xp over your master profession.
But with no real info on what is happening i feel like i have been blind sided and i'm really confused as what to do in the game.
Do i holo grind for another month, 2 months? do i stop now and get the skills back i want? i just have no clue ashow to proceed.
hypoxia wrote:Jedi_Jet ... I have played this game for the last 3 months doing exactly what the devs told me I should do to become a jedi, and that is grind proffessions. I'm now working on #18 since they released the holocrons, and have spent literally hundreds, if not a thousand hours on this. The only reason I did this is because this is currently the way that you unlock a jedi. There is no other way to get a jedi... if there was, trust me I'd much prefer to do it.So after spending so many hours, and so many credits (close to 8 million on this now) and being so close to being done, and only doing it because SOEtold me if I completed it I would get my great reward... you don't think I deserve any compensation for my efforts?
and the exact reason why most of us are pissed by this news... great post.
