When the younglings start comming into the game with their xboxs their capabilities will right off the bat be much faster on an xbox or any gaming system than us using a mouse clicking system and your computer. game boxes are designed to be fast and responsive and for extremely quick play. using a simple mouse system compared to a game pad isnt going to be fair at all.

I have been using a gamepad for about a year now with swg and love it. I use a program to map the buttons to the keys I need.
The reason I switched to a gamepad started back when I was grinding my 17th out of 28 profs. I developed carpal tunnel syndrome and my wrists couldnt take much more. Playing with a gamepad makes it feel more fast-twitch anyways. I am so used to the feel from playing consoles that I never miss a key or hit the wrong one like I hear from my opponents excuses when I bash their head into the ground.

You know, the XBOX 360 controllers are PC-compatible

First off, it seems extremely unlikely that console players are going to be playing on same servers as PC users, if a console version even ends up surfacing.
Second of all, gamepads for targetting in a first or third person shooter are the most useless pieces of garbage one could possibly use. If SWG is going to be closer to a FPS, then the mouse the is best possible tool. FPS shooters were made for mice.
Having said that, I suppose it depends on what sort of gamepad you are talking about. For me, I have the mouse in the righthand and a Nostromo N52 speedpad for the left. Keyboards are too uncomfortable for anything but chatting.

yup, in games that generall excel with pads/joysticks, the mouse can more oftan than not be much more precise. (especially when they put in collision detection, and you actually have to aim and hit your target) I've seem some wicked quake/unreal players use joysticks, but they are part of a very, very, rare few who can excel with them,
Mouse and keyboard generall pwn over joys/pads in any game, cept flight simulators

The absurd amount of Halo, Socom, and Ghost Recon guys out there would disagree with your assessment of FPS on a dual analog stick gamepad.
Honestly, the biggest problem with taking this game to the console market right now would be text chatting. Typing on a virtual keyboard with a gamepad is horriblely awkward. If we see voice comms being built into the game system soon, don't be surprised.

i play a lot of counter strike with my step son and he's got an xbox controller USB'd to his comp and i kick his ass with my mouse just as much as he kicks mine with the game pad. So i think it just comes down to whatever you're most comfortable with. But I do agree that the game pad has many advantages

I meant when voice comms are built into SWG, which I have a feeling will be coming soon.
