Thread: State of SWG... (not an attack on SOE/devs)
Message Edited by LangaNor on 11-01-2005 07:33 AM
yes, that year old date beside my name must be hacked...
is there a rule in these forums that we don't allow anything remotely positive or hopeful? Am I the only person who posts on forums that can see both sides of the coin? I don't want to start an argument, but maybe this is a good time to evaluate why you play this game.
but hey bud, keep the sarcasm coming, I'm sure it'll help.
Hugs and kisses!
I must agree to what you are writing but then again i cant when it comes to SOE.
There are numerous other MMORPG out there like Eve online, matrix online, Wow. I have tried the one i have said and i must say, that all of them have better community than what SOE represent. The SWG game in itself is excellent, is just that SOE doesnt care about their customers, they dont even listen to their beta tester. And they dont post information at all until the last minute.
I was in Eve forum and they told the players in DETAILS about their trouble with their server and what they were doing to take care of it. They even gave a link to the equipment they have just bought to update their server so we players could be apart and KNOw about what happens.
Matrix online has not that much information, but still better than swg, and they have TRUE dynamic storyline.
All we players want is information about what the f*** is going on, and why they are doing it.
Im beginning to think that SOE doesnt share info because they dont know themselves, if that is the case they need to find another job.
sorry to say this, i like this game VERY much, but hate the community (info, event on soe part, story etc)

I know, I know... soooooo many of these posts, it gets a little annoying. I've been playing for over a year now, and I've lived with my friends through all the changes, all the forum revolts, all the profession "adjustments"... and in the end, to quote on of my fave movies "It's not the end of the world"... I'd like to respond to a few of the "issues" that have popped up, and hopefully some peeps can back me up on this (because I hope there are more people like me on here).
1. The Starter Kit. So what if it's a new way to engage first time players, allowing them to sample SWG offline, and level through quests (because of obvious game mechanics resons), and they offer Jedi as a starting prof (because 30 lvls isn't enough to reach Jedi) so that new players get a chance to get hooked, like we have?? Who cares, it makes sense to me.
2. The Jedi "nerfs". Well, let's face it, we're all paddies, right? Until FRS returns and allows us to progress, we'll get more power. Can't wait that long? Mad because you can't read license agreements? Nobody's fault/problem but your own. I remember reading that chages will be made to the game, without need of a notice, and if you agree you're bound by those rules... Standard product contract, no biggie. The /cancel button isn't hard to find.
3. The "nothing in this game works" argument. Well, I've been hunting with my guild for weeks now, we've gained 33% of new membership within a month, and we're putting on tons of RP activities to add content where we find it lacking. Stuff's broken? Ok. So what... ALOT OF STUFF WORKS!!! The hunting works, space works, most quests work, my house is stil standing, my bike is still moving, my friend's are stil online, and I'm stil having fun.
4. The Devs are not out to get us... Please, think about it. Paranoia pops up when people want it to. Its like anything else, if you think the devs are out to screw Jedi, then everything that happens will "prove your point", and everytime you get a straight answer from anyone, you'll put it into question (ex.: Starter kit and Tiggs' response... Nothing cryptical, Amazon.com had the wrong product description. And if LA or SOE are planning to release a product, and they have a scheduled release date, or a scheduled date of initial advertisement, what's makes anybody believe that they should disregard that because of a few high strung peeps on some obscure forums... C'mon, for real, let's think about these things.
I don;t mean to get anyone all riled up, I just think that people on the forums get bent out of shape over spilled milk. Nothing's been done to you personally. And in this fine world we live in, democracy is a powerful tool, and your vote is your dollar. Don't like the direction SWG is taking? There's always other games you could play. Don't want to play any other game? Well then, you have some thinking to do...
Love and kisses to all, I'm still in love with SWG, and if that makes me a "dev brown noser", so be it.
See y'all inside!

Good and informative post. Only disagreement is because I hate group pve (quests) as well as group pvp. The CU has made doing anything by myself impossible. I understand the arguement of the m-"MULTI"-org, but I got sucked into swg pre-cu b/c I could do my own thing 90% of the time and then hang out with buds when a situation warranted it.
Luscio
Madfiend, you make a good point. Its nice to have at least one response worth reading.
I appreciate the aggrevation when it comes to dealing with a lack of info. But I've never ben to the SOE offices, I dunno how many staff members they have, or how the workload is divided up... I won't go so far as to blame Tiggs or the Corrs or the Devs for what might be elements outside of their control (ex.: LA imposing NDAs and such). My beefs aren't with the legitimate requests for info, they're with people who spend all their time on here complaining about nerfs, and problems, and lag, and loss of friends... without ever once acknowledging the things that do work, and work well.
if your guild fell apart because it didn't like CU, don't blame SOE or SWG, because the pattern doesn't apply to every guild. Why not just rebuild, adjust, adapt... or find something better to do.As Ebonfire so eloquently put it, that's life!

agreed, i miss soloing too. i wish there was a viable option for solo combat, but hey, I've been having so much fun with friends lately, its an ok trade-off, I suppose.
as for the CU... Well, I'm not the developer, but I do know what my rights are.Ifyou end up buying a car just because its a Ford, no matter how terrible the quality of the car and the client service over at Ford (when there's plenty of other cars out there), then you're a fool. I don't pay for stuff that gives me ulcers, so please don't feed me those "we've investd 2 years into SWG, they owe it to us", or the "I'm staying with it JUST because it's SW" lines... If you stay, despite your obvious HATRED for the present form of the game, quit and come back when it suits your tastes.
Best stuff about SWG for me:
- Guild hunts, the vette, the themeparks, JLS, my Xwing, my awesome bunker house, guild/group chat, RPing in a SW universe, aimlessly driving around obscure parts of planets, base raidings...
I'm sure if you look, you'll find something you love too.

This is a good post and I agree 100%. Unfortunatly 90% of the people that come to this forum only do so with a need to vent their frustrations. Sadly you are gonna have more negative then positive feedback. The jedi forums will always be like this until the devs give jedi and I win button and the game crumbles because of it.

1. The Starter Kit. No problem for me, as long as they don't make Jedi a starting profession online.
2. The Jedi "nerfs". Well, let's face it, we're all paddies, right? Until FRS returns and allows us to progress, we'll get more power. Can't wait that long? Mad because you can't read license agreements? Nobody's fault/problem but your own. You are either trolling here, or utterly clueless. I was a Paddie preCU, heck Dec 03 and let me tell you, the powerlevel sucks now! I used to grind alone, even do some questing alone. I didn't PvP nor GCW much, because a Jedi was supposed to be hidden, so I played hidden. Most people on my server probably don't even know this character is a Jedi. Now the power difference aloneis astounding. Can't really solo lairs anymore, so there goes the solo grind, force takes forever to regen, sabers are outclassed by my F-FWG5 Pistol, not to mention my rifles (both Min AND Max), they took away 5th gen that might allow you to compete on the min range, and finally borked every Jedi by requiring it to buy defenses seperately. Now THAT was a huge design mistake. I think that if they were going to implement such an absurd, and as a martial arts student I say this, situation where you learn only to attack and not defend, then they should foist it upon ALL players.
The problem is that they leave things unfixed for so long, and some things are still broken from launch day, that it creates the perception of never getting fixed. So you might consider that THEY SHOULD JUST ITEMIZE BROKEN/BUGGED THINGS AND FIX THEM FIRST. We've been waiting for a saber fix (speed & pearls/crystals) for 5+ months now. It took them 5 months to fix padawan robes. Not only that they create the IMPRESSION of favoring one class over another this way. There should be just one team whose DUTY it is to find and quash bugs. Sorry for the caps there, no other way to emphasize in Lithium effectively.
Paranoia comes in for people who have been Jedi for quite a while and see their profession becoming the laughingstock of the game. When I can see a BH w/ a MSL buddy hunting Jediwithout any armor, you know the game is -expletive-. The only way it'll get fixed is if Jedi do MSL/MP/little Healer or getting aMSL buddyand do 6000+pt chokes. Then everyone will blame us for Exploiting and getting MSL nerfed, oh wait they're already doing that and they're not even nerfed yet.
I don;t mean to get anyone all riled up, I just think that people on the forums get bent out of shape over spilled milk. Nothing's been done to you personally. I despise EQ and if the game turns into it anymore I just might. I, however, never make that stupid threat "change this or I quit". Incidentally it's a capitalist system that you vote with your dollar, although this country (the USA) is very much capitalist theocracy (or on the way really, when social conservatives try to block a vaccine that will stop nearly all cervical cancer causing virii), and not the Democratic Republic it once was.
Love and kisses to all, I'm still in love with SWG, and if that makes me a "dev brown noser", so be it.
It means you probably are a pre-9 Jedi, or just got it pre-9 and haven't witnessed the foolish decisions (sticking an ALPHA class in the GCW, the biggest bunch of whiners in the game those PvPer's are - guaranteed nerfage!) that Jedi said would wreak havoc, but the devs ignored. I could go on, but I digress.
See y'all inside!
Actually you probably won't unless you're hanging out in space.
