Thread: Lightsaber Damage
No I'm not a Jedi but in my quest for becoming FS, something seems to disturb me.

Now I want to know why so many things are resistant to lightsabers that do KINETIC DAMAGE? This is absurd. Some guy running up with his fist is doing the exact same kind of damage the lightsaber, a weapon supposed to cut through nearly anything, is doing.
What the heck is wrong?

I think Lightsaber should bePLASMA dmg which nothing has any resistance too... except other Jedi who should get special force protections against all dmg types.
Lightsaber is unique to the force and so should the damage.

RIS isnt a joke, I was talking to someone quoting me 2 MILLION credits for a set of 90% kinetic 70% everything else RIS.
No I wouldnt pay 2 million.... but 90% kinetic is awesome IMO

**edit** is "plasma" damage? Ghost buster's is a different game this is star wars =) unless we want to be just weird then i say sabers should be "nuclear bomb" damage and every time i whip it out, i get every one sicker than the sickest disease/poisons in the entire game thus justifying me getting a TEF for "public display of the saber". o and there is no cure but death for the poison/disease affect making people more cautious around me and my saber thnx,

Plasma is a superheated gas, it's not just heard of in Ghostbusters. I'm not sure plasma damage would be applicable (it should be Lightsaber damage class, everything should be vulnerable to it), but comparing plasma damage to nuclear bomb damage or calling it some made up stupid damage type idea is a little much.
Well, Technically speaking (from EU lore, and utterly fantasy-theory):
A lightsaber uses an Ion Power Cell which emits a strong stream of charged ionic particles which are focused using crystals for the purposes of controlling direction and strength. Its blade has no force, no wieght, no substance, the ion energy simply travels it's course from emitter to receptor in it's pre-programmed saber blade path or else contacts something and expends its energy destroying it.
Blasters, in comparison, use Spun Tibanna gas chambers in which a small laser beam is fired through to cause a controlled explosion, emitting plasma in the form of a blaster bolt. These blasts have actual substance/force behind them that can knock someone off their feet whereas a Laser would just go right through (erroding molecules as it were).
Laser Rifles and their ilk use semi-standard laser generating methods (special lamps emitting specially charged light in a sort of refractive combustion chamber, with a very fast "shutter" to release it in beams once sufficient energy has been generated).
Close to a lightsaber's energy type, a Jawa Ion Rifle uses the innate electrical distruption properties of Ionic Particles (atoms with too little or two few valence electrons) to disrupt other substances through electricity/magnetism.
FWG5's must employ something similar to both Blasters and Laser rifles, in such a way that the emission is mostly focused heat radiated in a controlled manner, with no force of charged particles like a blaster, and without the molecular excitation evident in lasers.
Acid is obvious, heh.
Kinetic (or Archaic) weapons use simple facts of physics to wrend flesh and other materials that are subject to bending, breaking, bleeding.
So, kinda sounds like it's owndamage type, though could be grouped very casually into the Energy category, though definately not a Laser, and with MUCH more energy being expended (a laser beam is so thin, it's energy per area is awesome, but a lightsaber's energy beam is thick and thusly a great many particles are present to wreak havoc).
Just some musings on the subject, not that devs will ever make a new damage type...
