Initially jedi were powerful as they were in the movies. I remember the first time I saw three jedi grouped together they laid waste to the player city I lived in, sending us to the cloner repeatedly and destroying our turrets. They weren't invincible but when you saw them coming you knew you were probably in for a bad day.

Naturally lots and lots of people wanted to be one of them. People didn't like the holocron system for a variety of reasons, and the Devs listened. They came up with the village content based on PLAYER input, ie having a known path to Jedi.

The Village went live and the jedi population started rising rapidly. Soon it was rare NOT to get killed by a jedi when you pvped. Meanwhile players in general were not happy with the combat system so the devs LISTENED again and gave us the CURB. Add in a few double XP weeks and by now the jedi crop is growing pretty fast.

The Devs had a choice here. They chose to balance (nerf) our profession to account for its size which continues to grow.

Had they taken the other road and left jedi at their old relative power level, the game would have become absolutely unplayable to the casual player and the new player. At first things would have gone okay, and probably all the people whining now would be happy. They could fight each other and every once and while get to kill the odd normal player that went SF. Eventually thought they'd tire of the game (natural in any game) and sell their still uber toon on Ebay. As players left, the jedi population wouldn't go down much, if at all. Meanwhile, people who didn't want to or couldn't grind out their own jedi would quickly realize that pvp and GCW was not possible for them. They would quit. With no one to buy weapons and armor, most of the crafters would probably quit also. All that would be left is Jedi, Chefs, and Jedi alts.No variety whatsoever. I doubt this alternative SWG would survive long.

I for one, am glad the Devs are doing what's best for the game as a whole, even if it means my Jedi isn't 1337.

Very very sad but so very true,

It is time for a huge overhaul in the system, ditch the village and create a new system. Bring back Saber TEF and Perma death for a few months this will help the jedi system!

If your gonna ban me, next time at least let me do something worth banning!

Slow down pal That was never true,pre-9 jedi had nothing against KD-Dizzy and a melee stacker who knew what he was doing could give a hard fight to a Guardian 4444.

Jedi in SWG never was nearly as powerfull as in the movies. DEVs must have forseen the population growing rapidly... they should havemade the "known" system extremely hard, discouraging to everyone who just wanna "pawn". Also DEVs had(still have) the power to give us alternatives for jedi, another alpha profession growing out of regular combat proff, could be anything like uber-BH, uber melee whatever .

The game is exactly going where DEVs or the management want, so dont try to find excuses for them, SOE screwed it up hardcore... and God knows if they can fix it.

I think the Village is fine, and I don't think Saber TEF and Perma Death are necessary. Although not intended, the devs changes will cause some jedi to quit. These are the ones crying about the nerfs and possibly some old Pre 9 jedi that find the new game just offers no appeal compared to their old days. I don't really blame them, i'm sure it was awesome to be a jedi in a land of mortals, but i don't have sympathy for them either. Eventually people would've gotten tired of either getting owned by or not being able to join their Alpha Class.

The jedi that are left will be players who are comfortable with the fact that their skill will have more of an effect on their success in battle than their template. They will be playing Jedi for the sake of playing a Jedi, not for an "I WIN" button.

I didn't say they were invicible and yes I saw many a melee stacker take down a 4444 Guardian. Of course the Devs foresaw the populatin growing rapidly, PLAYERS told them overwhelmingly they wanted to be jedi, and wanted a known path. If they had made the path really, really difficult i don't think it would discouraged the people who just want to "pawn". People that wanted to be good at pvp would either slog through the path or quit.

Another Alpha class may have worked, but I think it would have made anotherprofession that people love to hate and flame. And then you'd have really just 2 professions as end game.

WIth all combat classes relatively balanced you could see real variety, as anyone that was good with their template could be effective in pvp/GCW/pve.

I would argue that has gotten all of those things, or at least made progress in them.

I notice that this is written by a Jedi.. typical.. you ever concider there are player who never wanted to be jedi? WHO felt emuresed in teh starwars univeres before it became Jedi Wars? Thx to this new system what was once a balance char MTK, ME, MM who was not too powerful but could hold her own while enjoying her chosen profession with a few brawls on the side died. She was a good character could group whit people but perfectly enjoyable when I felt like I normallydo about going out Solo.

NOw to try and get back to that I've completly dropped ENtertainer and taken up BH.. because now I have ot make it topadwan to get my 2nd slot.. then I can have a combat char (will not take it to jedi just to 2nd slot) then I will have 2 aspecs of the same character. One a combatant the other a Pure Entertainer.. Don't owrry though I don't do PVP so I won't hunt your Jedi.

I still say Pre CU is better. adn teh way teh Devs hadnled it was wrong because they catered to one aspected of teh game and pretty much screwed everyone else..

and I agree with this comment by Winicompletly....

The game is exactly going where DEVs or the management want, so dont try to find excuses for them, SOE screwed it up hardcore... and God knows if they can fix it.
