Doesn't it seem that everytime a new change comes in it seems like it is nearly designed to turn the community against itself?

This snare thing, ok, it's a nerf. Fine, Jedi will find a way to survive it, BH will find a way to exploit it (not in a cheating way, in a "use it to their advantage" way.). But I'm looking through the BH boards, and looking through the Jedi boards and all that comes to my mind is the Jerry Springer show.

You have a situation where the people involved are blaming the wrong people. On Springer or Montel or whatever we've seen it played out a million times. The wife comes on stage and tells us her husband is cheating on her (again) then she whines and cries and says how it's not fair. Then they bring out the Husband whom is greeted by Boo's and Hisses.

Then he berates the wife a few times with a big smirk on his face because he knows she won't leave him. Out comes the (usually unattractive) girlfriend. Immediately the women throw their chairs and run at each others with their claws out to bare while the husband just sits smirking and laughing. He knows niether of them will leave him and no matter what happens he's still got them in his pocket.

Well, thats the Jedi/BH situation in a nutshell isn't it? The Husband (Dev's) knows most of us will not quit. Many of us have 2 years invested in this disfunctional relationship. We all know how that goes, no matter how much he beats us we keep coming back. The players change a little bit, one patch we're the wife and the BH'ers are the girlfriend. Another patch the BH'ers are the wife and we're the girlfriend, but in every case the Dev's stay where they were. Smirking because they know they got us.

I guess my whole point is this, Jedi and Bounty Hunters are not Jedi nor Bounty Hunters. We are people. Real people with real lives and real money that we are giving to the Dev's. Somehow the cycle has to break. There's only two ways to make that happen. The first and easiest is for all us en mass to quit, but most of us don't want to. We want the Dev's to treat us better, be respectful to us, and change their slimey ways. The second option is for the Dev's to step in and say enough is enough, we're going to fulfill all the promies we made to the community.

Our community is like a family. Currently a disfunctional family. The kids are always fighting and the parents act inconsistantly by showing favoritism to one kid at a time while ignoring or beating the others. Sometimes things need to be changed, thats not what enrages us. What drives us nuts is that in the process of "fixing" one thing they break 30 others.

Dev's, if we hated this game we wouldn't keep paying every month. If we didn't have hope that you would take care of us, we would have left ages ago. You have a community that was behind you 110% to do something new and inovative. Please don't fail us by turning this game into a clone of every other MMORPG with a Star Wars skin.

The crafters want to craft new and interesting things. You have an open playing field Dev's why not? It doesn't have to have uber stats or extreme worth, just new clothes, Rebel Helmets, Imperial Uniforms, etc. Smugglers want to Smuggle. I mean, come on, Han Solo was a Smuggler.. why can't we get some of that? Pilots are ignored and space is empty, this is Star Wars for God's sake! You have so many things you could do with that. Use your imaginations, show off, get creative. You have to realize that could only generate accounts not get them cancelled. Jedi and Bounty Hunters are such a high profile for this game. My friends eye's bug out of their head when I describe the fact that players track us down (in a good way). Foster that and make it more symbiotic of a relationship. If it's supposed to be Risk vs Reward where's the reward?

My point is, we love this game. Thats why we stay in this disfunctional situation. You have the oppurtunity to stop all the hate and dismay by simply living up to your promises in a timely manner. Dev communication should be short and sweet. "Here's whats broken" and list it. "Here's what we promised" and list it. "Here's what we're fixing and here's the promises we could keep for this patch" and list it.

I'm sick of watching the community implode. Next time you have an oppurtunity to flame someone, give them a pass. Give accurate info, correct them, but do it without trying to tear someone down. Remeber, on the otherside of the keyboard is a real person who is a part of this family. No one likes a bully.

Yet another well written post, and i agree with what your saying. The majority of the swg community is willing to stick and improve the game, even some devs.

But im afraid all this will fall to deaf ears, soe has set its policy and its very unlikely at this point that they will change it.

But thanks for a well written analysis.

No problem, it was more for my own sanity. It's good to know I'm not the only one to see this. I agree, the Dev's won't be changing their minds, their policy is set in a certain direction and it is unwavering.

They won't read this post, they won't do anything different. This new expansion will go live with all the bugs and nerfs and issues in about 7 days. The community will further implode until it finally goes boom like a nuetron star. Then they'll all go on Stratics and Warcry and say they don't know what happened. Meh, whatcha gonna do?

Excellently put, specially the Jerry Springer bit (made me laugh), but a perfect analogy.

If only more time would be spent on the core game, and not wasted on expansions that provide content for maybe 30 days

Very well worded. The Chicken Littles (I was one with the CU, but am happily turning around on my view of it) will always say something like the snare thing, or the action cost thing is a nerf set out to kill them and them alone. The thing that gets me is people are complaining that combat is currently too slow. The Devs listen and give a means to speed it up a touch and are met with more rants and raves.

Bring on the game, dammit. I will keep playing as long as humanly possible.

the community will whine and implode again and so on. this community was supposed to quit long time ago, after pub9. it seems to me that even CTDs every 30 secs would not make the community quit. that's the annoying part, they can do anything they want to this game and we just don't quit. so don't expect things to change, we will continue to give them our money. any prophecy is useless, this game will live until THEY will decide to shut it down.
and all we can do is to give them money.

Sadly, in response to the OP's brilliant post, they don't care.

You see, for a long long time now, and mostly through attrition of the some of the great Developers in this game who left around the time of the CU, the Developers who remain have built themselves a very nice Ivory Tower.

They are proud of that tower you see. Now and then they throw the peasants (us) a bit of news once they have made the decisions they make in a vacuum. And the messages sent to the tower? Well those messages find their way into a circular file.

In a world of Lava Sabers and pointless loot worlds, there is no Star Wars Galaxies.

You know that advertisment that plays on the front page about the generations who love star wars and how great it would be to capture that in a game etc? I am STILL waiting to play that game.

Best post I've seen in a while on just the basics of this game and few specific's. This is my second account. I first quit back when WoW came out and recently came back when I heard some of my old guildies were reactivating accounts as well. Since I deleted all my characters (I did this so i wouldn't come back). I just started over with a Total Exp box. I'm having more fun this time around as I was a huge holo grinder. That grind drove all the fun away from the game for me. I'm grinding Jedi again, but grind is the wrong word. I'm having fun.. Enjoying space, doing quests on Kash, and trying the RP thing a little bit more this time. I'm looking forward to the many hopes of improvement on all aspects of the game. I think the CU cleared up some, but created other problems... Hopefully we will have a game CU after this next expansion, along with the ranger/smuggler revamps.

great analogy Vegitaa...your whole post was extremely well stated.

there is only one thing that really bugs me about it.....in cases of infidelity and abusive relationships....the offender rarely, if ever changes their ways....even if they do, there is distrust and pent-up emotions on both sides that can't be expressed in a healthy manor....whether it lasts 5 minutes or 50 years after the fact....it's rarely a healthy relationship.

what we're really looking at is SOE (husband) and Lucasarts (wife).....lucasarts is beautiful....a hell of a (woman), she's classy, and funny, doesn't ask for much, and in general has pretty good taste.........SOE is a shameless, angry drunk....gave her STD's he recieved from diddling EQ and all the other tramps he's messed around with, smacks her around whenever she opens her mouth in protest, and is jealous,posessive, and controlling....if he can't have her....no one can.

us...the players...we're the kids in this analogy....the only thing we can do is talk to momma (lucasarts) and get her to understand she deserves alot better....she's killing herself in this relationship, and her children are suffering.

When have the devs ever mistreated us or been less than respectful? Been reading these forums since they were open and cant recall a single instance of them being anything but courteous.

"Slimey ways"??? Seems they bend over backwards to give us what we want (and balance kept across numerous professions, ie careful what you wish for...you might get it

Sure there are issues...always will be too.
