Thread: [Jedi Guide]: Tips for Fighting Bounty Hunters
Tips for Fighting B
unty Hunters
Introduction
Bounty Hunters (BHs) have the initial upper hand in an attack on a jedi due to two main things, initial preparation and first strike. They know when they are about to attack a mark and have all the time they want to activate any foods, drinks, spice, macros, etc. they need. As jedi we get neither of these and thus must prepare and attack as quickly as possible. This guide covers useful macros we can use to automatically buff and heal ourselves and other tips and tricks for fighting BHs post CU.

Useful Macros
Text in parenthesis () are comments and should not be put into the macro. To create a macro open the Abilities and Commands window and click on Macros then Create Macro.
Buff Macro
Create a buff macro. There are many helpful foods, drinks, and spices out there that can give you a good buff. Just look in the jedi food guide sticky and select those that enhance your play style. The next step is to put these on an empty toolbar and write a macro that switches to that toolbar, activates all of the foods, and then switches you back to your main toolbar.
Name: buffmacro
Macro:
/ui action toolbarPane02; (switches to toolbar pane number 3)
/ui action toolbarSlot00; (F1 key slot, put a buffing food, drink, or spice in this slot)
/ui action toolbarSlot01; (F2 key slot, put a buffing food, drink, or spice in this slot)
/ui action toolbarSlot02; (F3 key slot, put a buffing food, drink, or spice in this slot)
/ui action toolbarSlot03; (F4 key slot, put a buffing food, drink, or spice in this slot)
(... enter as many of these as you need for however many foods, drinks, and spice you have, remember that F1 is 00, F2 is 01, F3 is 02, etc.)
/ui action toolbarPane00 (no ; on the last command, this returns you to toolbar pane 1 so you can use your usual commnands)
Stim Macro
Next you will need to make a stim healing macro so that you don't have to worry about those. Drag a stack of the best stims you can use to your toolbar and write a macro that activates one every minute.
Name: stimmacro
Macro:
/ui action toolbarPane02; (switches to toolbar pane number 3)
/ui action toolbarSlot11; (F12 key slot, put your stim in this slot)
/ui action toolbarPane00; (this returns you to toolbar pane 1 so you can use your usual commands)
/pause 61; (pause 60 may work but I just go with 61 in case, this makes it wait a minute)
/macro stimmacro (no ; on the last command, this calls the macro again, this will repeat till you run out of stims in the F12 key slot of pane 3)
Force Infusion Macro
If you have force infusion you should make a third macro that will activate that and loop it. The regular foce infusion is a 24 second period and improved force infusion is a 48 second period. Since this is currently bugged make sure to use 'self' when calling the force infusion.
Name: infusionmacro
Macro:
/forceinfusion self; (activates force infusion on yourself)
/pause 25; (again I add a second just to be safe, if using improved force infusion pause for 49 seconds instead of 25)
/macro infusionmacro (no ; on the last command, this calls the macro again, this will repeat until you stop it)
Tie All of the Macros Together
Now write a fourth macro to call those two or three macros and add /follow at the end. Now when you get attacked by a BH just target them and hit your master macro. You will then be buffed, healing every minute, and following them. The following helps keep you in range, gives you one less thing to worry about when attacked, and helps to compensate for lag. Once you make this macro drag it from the macro list and put it on your main toolbar, then if a BH shows up just click it and it will activate everything for you.
Name: buffhealmacro
Macro:
/macro buffmacro; (calls your buffing macro)
/macro stimmacro; (calls your looping stim macro)
/macro infusionmacro; (optional, only useful if you have force infusion, calls your looping force infusion macro)
/follow (no ; on the last command, you must have the BH who is attacking you targeted when you run this macro in order to follow them)
One Line Macros
There are two one line macros that are also useful to have in your toolbar if you have room. The first is a deathblow macro. Just make a macro with the command /deathblow in it. This is especially useful now that there is a timer for deathblow and with it's current length it's very easy for a BH to get up right in the middle of it and you have to incapacitate them again.
The second one is a dump macro. Just make a macro with the command /dump in it. This will save you the trouble of having to type /dump after you defeat (or are defeated by) the BH. The /dump command will stop all currently running macros (the looping macros above, namely the stim macro and the force infusion macro).
Additional Macro Notes
To stop all of the above macros once the fight ends type /dump into chat or use a /dump macro and they will stop. Make sure you also check the quantities of your buff foods in the pane you have them in to make sure you have enough and make sure you keep enough stims available as well. I even keep all of my buff supplies in a backpack in my inventory so that I don't use them for other things and I know they will be ready to go if I'm attacked.
You can also bind these commands to keyboard keys, more on this in a future update.
If you are having problems with any of the above macros check them very very carefully, you may have one letter off, or an extra space somewhere. The above macros are correct and verified therefore something must have been entered wrong on your macro. It's tedious, welcome to programming.
Equipment and Combat Tips
Make sure you have a PSG on you and activated at all times. If you are hunting creatures they will not drain the PSG and it will be at 100% if a BH attacks you.
Consider getting BE clothing with ranged defense on it instead of your jedi robes. Your robes don't do much for you in a fight with a BH but a shirt and pants with +15 ranged defense on each of them does.
Stay alert. I generally have my radar at 256m with terrain off and keep the overhead map up on almost the maximum viewable area. My groupmates also have theirs up and help me watch for any dots heading towards us while hunting.
If you are in rocky ground and don't have any terrain negotiation you can use /burstrun to keep up with the BH for a short while. Remember that when you do this you may not have it available for a quick escape.
If you are CL54 or higher, carry an Advanced Laser Rifle at all times. Have it in a toolbar slot somewhere. When you get rooted at range equip the rifle and start pounding the BH with the basic Ranged Shot until you get them within your range. (Thanks Roscannon)
Make sure you carry a Holocron or two on you at all times. Even with Channel Force there can be times where you get low on Force and need a quick recharge. Note that you can only use one Holocron in a 23 hour peroid so only use them for emergencies. Also any jedi can use either the Sith Holocron or a normal Holocron. (In case you don't know what a Holocron does it completely fills your Force bar no matter how much Force you have.)
Alternatives to Fighting
The first two options are generally looked down upon by BHs and you may get tells complaining about you exploiting the system, etc. The first is not an exploit because of the BH TEF, which I have had happen post CU. The second is not an exploit because there are ways for the BH to get around it and you are very vulnerable anyways.
Portable House Tactic
Carry a house around with you and place it at each mission you get to then run into it if you see someone approaching. If the BH attacks you before you get in the house you will have a BH TEF which will prevent you from entering any private structure.
Multi-passenger Speeder Tactic
Have a friend offer you a ride in their speeder and take off. The downside to this is you are vulnerable while in the speeder and the BH can still KD you and you will fall out of the speeder. You can also not heal while in the speeder so I look at this as a last ditch effort. Note that the BH can not attack your friends speeder or your friend, only you.
Personal Speeder Tactic
Keep your own speeder out and in good repair so if a BH attacks you can jump on it and drive away. Keep in mind that the BH can target your speeder and disable it and the BH has time to look at all the speeders that are out and attack yours first if they so choose (before they even engage you directly). Note that your speeder will con yellow to a BH who has your mission so it is very easy for them to target it and destroy it.
Pay Off the BH
Offer to pay the BH off, this works on some BHs who are in it just for the money. Remember you do not know if they have truly dropped the mission or not and they could still attack you even after you have paid them off, though this is generally not a problem.
Evasive Jedi Skills
Using force cloak and/or force run can also allow you to escape BHs if you have these skills.
About BH Missions
If you wish to succeed, "know thy enemy." Many new jedi do not understand how BH missions work, and this can have a great amount of impact on your survival. I have summarized this information here, if you wish to know more read the stickys in the BH forum.
Visibility
Once you become a Padawan you can gain visibility. Visibility is gained by a player or npc being within 32m of you when you use any jedi skill. Once you get enough visibility you are put on the BH mission terminals and BH can hunt you.
Mission Payout and Your Skill Level
One of the most important pieces of information (I think) that BHs get is an approximate amount of how many jedi skills you have. The payout on the BH mission terminal is computed by the following formula:
Number of skill points you have in jedi skills X 1000 credits
Thus if you have Lightsabers 0/4/0/2 and Novice Healer you are worth 60k on the BH mission terminals. This has two effects on how BHs select their missions. The first is if you have a very low payout you may have enough skill points left to switch back to a regular profession and put up a good fight (if you still had Master Rifleman for instance). The second is if you have a high payout, say 225k, you may be too powerful for a BH to take out alone and they will get friends to help them. Therefore the sweet spot is around 100k to 150k where you don't have enough jedi skills to put up too much of a fight and not enough non jedi skills to help you much. If you fall in this range you may see more BH coming after you then if you were above or below it.
How BH Missions Work
Currently as many as 5 BHs can take your mission and group together and come after you, though I have only encountered solo BHs and groups of 2. Once a BH takes your mission another BH is free to take your mission as well. If BH A kills you the mission will fail for BH B and BH B will need to get a new mission. If you kill BH A, BH B can still come after you without having to get a new mission.
How BHs Find You
Before they even take your mission they will check to see if you are online. They will either add you to their friends list or just use /findfriend yourname to see if you are online (it won't give them a waypoint unless you have them in your friends list but they can tell if you are online or not). Once they take your mission they then talk to a spynet operative to get a DNA sample which they put in an Arakyd droid which goes off and gets your current waypoint. The BH then travels to that planet and uses a seeker droid to get your current position, this droid also updates periodically with where you are going. Thus if you are traveling the BH can still follow you as long as the droid is active. This brings the BH directly to you.

Not a bad guide, I like the section on macros.
Ill be damned if I ever pay off a BH though!
Let me state that I do not run from BHs and have never ever (and will never ever) pay one off, but that doesn't mean that such tactics are not available to those who wish to use them.
And if I could make a macro that killed the BH for me I would.
But BHs are much more elusive creatures and not as easy to kill... at least non-respec ones. ![]()

lather rinse repeat.
forget saberthrow it eats force like crazy
saber throw first thing, this attack will kd 90% of the time you first use it, and that gives you that precious second to a. clear your head(most important if your like me, and not a pvp expert, i tend to panic for a second, and this lets me get back under control), and b. take your foods and spices.
its always my first move(well, right after i hit the kd recovery).
in retrospect i should have said go easy on the sabrethrow hehe. its a common mistake (in my opinion) to spam saberthrow when there are other options
