I would seriously doubt it. There is absolutely no reason how that could benefit them or have the benefits outway the potential risks/costs.

I wondered about this to...The ability to emulate a galaxy or shard in ultimas case made for some good movies. But it also opened up the free servers to run rampant. Of course to code and debug a game like SWG would be alot more of a hassle than ultima online was. It would take alot of volunteers to keep it running and adding in new content and fixes. Plus it would be alot more painfull on the computer trying to act as the server than the private free shards of ultima.

I kinda wish that they would do it just so people could have more freedom to create better game movies but at the same time i dont want the other potential problems that can come along with it.

noone else did it.

noone else will.

UO has been the best MOORPG of ever ( till it lasted ) and there will never be something like it.

I guess if we wait 7 more years or so, we might be able to play the old game again, well my kids will have something fun to play atleast.

EA has NEVER released the source code for Ultima Online. If it was, it was illegally obtained, I'm fairly certain the majority of UO emulators are reverse engineered.

Still got two accounts active I stop by and see my house every now and again lol.

As for the pre CU or pre pub 9 thing sure thats also an option with having the source code. But how much work would it take to nail down the pre CU or 9 coding. That and the threat of someone actually doing it and pulling away from the games profits. (probably wouldnt happen)

The amount of resources it would require to run a pre CU server independantly that could support more than a handfull of players could be very high. Maybe a few hundred players is possible but not enough to make a big enough dent in SWG population.

All in all i think it wont ever happen.

EA also chooses to look the other way when it comes to emulators, something SOE is not willing to do. I checked into this recently since I ran a free UO server for 4 years I thought it might be nice to see if SWG had gotten to that point. No. Far from it. Reason? Because anyone who even discusses such a project gets a phone call from SOE lawyers.

when or if SOE releases the game code is the question, I do not question the dedication to a game still loved and much missed, I do not put in question. It is up to SOE to do a good dead some day.
