Thread: A simple and fun Jedi FRS system and solution for Jedi PVP problems

The following is an idea for a simple, effective system that might help deal Jedi overpopulation and the perception of many players that Jedi are ruining the GCW.At the same time, it will not take away the accomplishments of the players who have become Jedi, and it will give the Jedi the opportunity to increase in power significantly (although temporarily) through competition with each other, rather than by mind-numbing grinding or preying on other players.

In summary:

1. Make regular CL80 Knights roughly equal in strength to other CL80 non-Jedi.(No arguments here about whether they already ARE equal, or if there needs to be an adjustment to make them relatively equal—I know there is debate on this issue, which could be resolved by thorough testing).

2. Create a limited number of FRS slots that the Jedi compete with each other for in an arena.Progressing through this ranking system will allow a limited number of Jedi to progress in power.

3. When a ranked Jedi dies, he loses his spot, moving back to standard Knight level, and leaving a vacancy for other Jedi to fill. This will create a real “death penalty” for ranked Jedi, without making life unnecessarily difficult for non-ranked Jedi.At the same time, the penalty will not be that bad, because it does not undo any grinding, but rather, simply re-shuffles the deck that was set by Jedi vs. Jedi competition. Finally, because the Jedi are competing with each other for these spots, there would be no incentive for creating “fight clubs”.

Here it is in more detail.

1.Basic Full Template Jedi should be roughly equal in power to other CL80 combat professions.

The adjustment to power can be accomplished simply by adjusting the amount of force power and/or the regeneration rate. This will reduce the “jealousy” factor of other players, and might also reduce the desire of players to have Jedi just so they can dominate in PVP, thereby potentially reducing the number of Jedi participating in the GCW.As I said, I know there is debate over whether Jedi really are more powerful than other CL80 characters. The bulk of the evidence seems to indicate that they are.Anyway, that’s beside the point of this post. The only assumption here, is that Jedi will be made equal to other CL80s.

But, what about all the effort players put into getting Jedi?Don’t they deserve something in return?Yes, and they still have it.They still get the satisfaction of calling themselves Jedi, they get what no other player gets – a second character slot—they still get a character with a HUGE variety of abilities, and they get the opportunity to increase in power through the FRS system.

But, Jedi are supposed to be more powerful than regular schmoes aren’t they? Not necessarily:This may have been the case during the Republic. But remember, the “Jedi” of SWG did not benefit from a life-time of training in an academy with thousands of years of experience—they learned their skills in a short time in some crappy Village. And even some Academy-trained Jedi Masters fell to non-Jedi, for example, , who was killed one-on-one by Jango Fett.

But, what about all the time I spent grinding, because I wanted to be Uber!Well, it’s an MMO, and things like this happen. As one possible way to soften the blow, the devs could allow existing Jedi to “blue frog” their second character slot if they want another combat character to use as and alternative to their Jedi.

2. A simple but fun and effective FRS system.

This system should have several levels in pyramid format, with each level having more slots per server than the next higher level, and with each level being a little bit more powerful than the last, with the top level being 2-3 times as powerful as a standard CL80.For example:

1: 2.0X

2: 1.8X

4: 1.6X

8: 1.4X

16: 1.2X

This example would give 31 FRS slots on each server.Optionally, there could be two pyramids, one for dark, and one for light, perhaps with fewer slots in each one to keep the number of ranked jedi on each server down.

Now, how do people get these slots?Instead of having a complicated point system, and requiring ANY kind of grinding, this system would use 1 on 1 direct competition.

First, any time a ranked Jedi dies, he will lose his rank, and drop back to normal Knight status.Alternatively, he could drop down to the next lowest level with a vacancy if there is one.

When a spot becomes available, members of the previous rank can compete to fill the spot. This could be done in an arena in some remote location. The first two eligible Jedi to show up get the chance to fight for the spot. The winner takes the spot, and the loser (even if he “dies” during the fight) stays wherever he is.

In addition to Jedi of equal level competing for open spots, which would probably be the most common way of advancing, Jedi can challenge holders of existing spots in the FRS system.Once the challenge is issued, the “challengee” would have a certain amount of time to respond and appear for the challenge. If he does not show up, he forfeits, and the his spot becomes open for competition as above. If the fight takes place, and the challenger wins, the Jedi trades spots. If the challenger loses, it counts as a typical death, and that Jedi’s spot (if he had one) is open and he returns to normal Knight status.

Okay, that all sounds great, but what about Jedi who don’t want to PVP at all.Aren’t they screwed by this system?Well, yes and no.First, it was always known and assumed that being a Jedi would involve PVP.Nobody who embarks on the path of the Jedi can complain about that. But there is also an alternative.

There could be a parallel FRS system for PVE-only Jedi, with a similar limited-slot system and where death results in loss of rank. But instead of fighting each other, the PVE-only Jedi could compete for the slots through some system of XP accumulation, or by fighting difficult NPC Jedi. For example, a “challenge” for a PVE FRS slot could involve the two competing Jedi trying to complete some task (a mission, killing a tough NPC).The winner would be the one who completes the task first.

To keep these PVE-FRS Jedi from interfering with PVP, there could be a rule that any PVE-ranked Jedi who declares SF (or attacks another player in a Guild War), would automatically lose his rank and return to basic Knight level.

tell you what tho, when the grind for jedi becomes equal to the grind for any regular class profession, then you maybe nto something. so we are talking no village, no fs points, no phases, no village missions, no 5 times less exp, and no 3.2 mill master boxes= roughly 16000000 regular exp for a master box, 8000000=for a 4 box, 4000000 = for a 3 box and so on down the line. no your BIG IDEA is one of the worst i have heard yet, or better yet, bring all regular professions exp up to jedi levels, that way you dont get a jedi exp nerf, you get a game exp balance. yes i think i like this last idea alot.

if your going to be as powerful as a jedi, you should have to grind the same amount of exp as jedi for game balance. )) i like this alot

If the desire is to use the FRS to control Jedi fromattacking non-Jedi playersit is far simpler to apply a ranking penalty to Jedi who initiate combat with non-Jedi.Ifnon-Jedi players attack a Jedi then no penalty applies.Additional levels of control could be added to diminish undesireable behavior using simple rules in the FRS system. For instance, Jedi players could be rewarded with a bonus for killing other Jedi players who have high visibility as a measure to encourage Jedi players to be discrete in their use of force powers.

I'll go one further...
The fact that Jedi are supposedly already (at full template) only 1.5 times stronger than a CL 80 is in itself, an inbalance if the Xp required to achieve that level is weighed. Let's ponder that for a moment...

To become a Full Template Jedi one needs:

- A single Master Elite profession XP required 5.85 million XP

- 24 FS boxes (6 complete FS trees) 172,575,000 XP reg to Fs XP conversion

- 33.460 million JEDI XP to complete a template, which roughly equates to 184 million non Jedi XP.

Total XP for Jedi: 362.425 MILLION XP to become a full temp, from start to finish.
Total XP for CL 80: 11.7 million

Summary: The Jedi grind will take 31.976 times as much XP to complete than a dual master CL80.

So the OP wants a Jedi Knight who has the ADDITIONAL task of completing the Knight Trials to be the SAME as a CL 80? I already think it's a joke that a Full Temp Jedi is ONLY 1.5X as strong as a CL80 when it takes 32 times as long to grind, and even that is arguable.

Conclusion: The Jedi grind is one HECK of a price to pay just to have a glow stick that's FAR inferior to a decent rifle, PH or pistol in damage.

I said it before and I'll say it again.

Not everyone wants to be forced to PVP. what ever the new FRS is it needs to allow those that are not interested in PVP to also be able to have fun and not be excluded.

simple answer....dont join the FRS......FRS is and should be the progression in power thro killing enemys I.E. Training in the art of war.....not run missions and get xp....no....if you dont like forced pvp...dont join...simple

Since when is the jedi order about killing and gaining power and learning the art of war? I thought jedi were supposed to use the force for KNOWLEGE and defense never for attack. I thought some jedi became masters by learning the force through self mastery. Jedi were promotted to positions in the ranks because of their exceptional skills in manipulating the force not because they could kill everything they saw. Sith on the other hand is all about gaining power, killing and war so i would agree with you there. If you went the dark route then for sure the only way to progress is crushing your enemies and sweeping the weaker force users under your feet.

Too often players and the devs have a mindset that professions should be balanced with 1 on 1 pvp in mind. This mindset is ruining the game. The benchmark for balance should be determined by the role a profession plays in a group setting. As long as the current mindset continues we will never see uniqueness among the professions, nor will we ever see individuality within a given profession. We will never see the SWG universe expanded as the focus will only ever be balance pass after balance pass after balance pass.

Correct, if you dont want to PvP you shouldn't reap the benefits of those that do PvP. As well, if you dont want Forced PvP you shouldnt be a Jedi

Thats just plain retarded to think like that, if that were the case why would there even be NPC's in the game at all, and not to mention quests.

PVP is an option, that is why you get the choice to go combatant or not, If I wanted to PVP id be playing an online FPS.
