Thread: 14 day trial account can cause a long term paying customer to quit...

I wonder if SOE realizes this. Think about it, with a 14 day trial account, one can easily grind 3000 BH, and
TKM, and have at least a good week to hunt all the newbie Jedi. And how many of those newbie Jedi are going
to keep playing, and keep PAYING, once they are so far in exp debt that they will NEVER grind out of it?
And keep in mind, the new padawans have NO alt to play. (Yes, they could start a new character on another
server, but so what? Who wants to start over because they can't play their main character?)

And the 14 day trial account BH never has to pay. Just grief for a week or so, then quit. It's a griefers
wet dream.

Not a smart business decision, in my opinion.

AND BTW: The point is not that someone WILL do this. It's that someone COULD. The fact that a template that
takes a week to grind can cause multiple long term customers to quit playing IS the point.

PS: Someone is bound to say something stupid like 'why would someone start a trial account, grief a bunch of
Jedi into quiting, and then not keep paying for the game?' Well, that's what griefers do. They don't care about
their own characters, nor the game itself. They 'get off' on ruining someone elses day (a trait that if it
manifested in real life would be labeled as sociopathic.)

PPS: NO system in an online game that is so unbalanced as BH vs. Jedi (BH initiates combat when they wish,
Jedi have all the risk, BH have all the reward) can EVER be implemented in such a way that it can't
be used to grief. (And if it CAN be used to grief, griefer wannabes WILL play the game just to grief.
A situation like this WILL attract griefers.)

PPPS: By the way, this applies to more than 14 day accounts. The point is that even a 14 day trial account
can do significant damage to the paying player population. Thus it is possible for subscribed griefers to do
far, far more damage. And this problem will continue to exist as long as there is a portion of the player
population that can be griefed in this fashion. The problem is horribly multiplied when the population that
can be griefed is such a huge percentage. (Existing Jedi, the recently unlocked Jedi, and soon to ulock Jedi.)

And no, I've never been killed by a BH.

This is why player bounties should be moved to MBH. It also cuts down on the melee stacked BH templates, and there are very few people who could reach MBH in 14 day trial accounts.

Additionally, the Jedi visibility and missions should clear off the terminals AND the same BH should be restricted from obtaining the same Jedi he has killed for a certain period of time (3 days to coincide with the limited payout timer would make sense to stop Jedi friends of BH from using that BH to clear a mission).

Finally, there needs to be a limitation on the group TEF advantage as well as TEF, visibility and missionclearing if the Jedi is killed by anyone in the BH's group.

Conspiracy theories, oh how I love them. No one in their right mind would do this. First of all if someone wants to hunt Jedi why would he go through the trouble of installing a trial account and building a new character when he can just do it on his regular account. Or if you're implying that this is a first time gamer playing, he wouldn't be able to do all that grinding, credit/item amassing, and become skilled enough to fight Jedi. Besides if someone was determined to do that I don't see the problem, people make 14 day accounts for extra player city residents, and all sorts of things. Jedi hunting is part of the game, you make it seem like anyone who grinds out any Bounty Hunter template immediately becomes evil and deserves to die a thousand deaths. This is all part of the game, you knew the risks when you decided to become a Jedi, if not by the devs, then surely by your peers. Just because you don't like how something works doesn't mean you can go on some crusade to get rid of it because it effects you emotionally. If you're not enjoying yourself why do you continue playing?

This is another thing that boggles my mind. A lot of people complain that they don't want Jedi to be turned into a normal profession. Most of them don't realize they are the cause of it. People ask the devs to make things easier and easier, and it just won't stop until it inevitably turns into a normal profession.

Last I checked SOE was no longer offering trial accounts. It was for a limited period. I may be wrong though.

As far as I know the free trial period is over. It ended just before september. I personally think that the free trials were a good thing. It gave the lower end crafters the possibility of actually selling stuff and not just grinding resources into dust.

Jedi are already 'toned down' to a normal prof. Actually, they are weaker than a TKM, even at knight level.

And on a certain level I agree with you. Jedi *should* be something special within the game. It takes more work and more time than any other profession or combination of professions in the game, and should be more "powerful" within the mechanics of the game as a result. With that should come a proportional risk, whether it be perma-death, skill loss, or experience loss. The problem with the system as it's implemented is that there are risks without rewards. Sure, I know you'll simply say, "being Jedi is your reward," and that nothing I can say will change your mind. But really, all Jedi amounts to right now is an underpowered melee profession without armor. The reward received for the risk is to hunt alone in the wilderness in constant fear of losing experience in a flood that can only be earned in a trickle. Rewards are meant to be fun -- the things that make you keep playing a game in spite of the risks or punishments.

Like I intimated, I support the idea of bounties on Jedi (and other players that violate the law, btw). I'm not even opposed to the idea of experience loss, even at the amazingly high levels currently implemented. But the reward needs to be proportional, in some form other than, "you have a Jedi, that's reward enough."

There are many Knights who would disagree with this.

And I think this thread is funny. If the trial period wasn't already over, Jedi would be asking to nerf the 14-day accounts.
