Afternoon all.

Was just reading over the various guides to see how things had changed since the CURB. Back when I was trying to get jedi i was planning on something like MLS 4-4-x-x defender 4-x-x-x healer 4-x-x-4 enhancer so i had good offence. some defence and the ability to heal and run away. plus good force regen

I was glancing over the template threads and saw it was listed as a good template but force pool was a disadvantage. the top listed one that had "no down points" was MLS MDef 3-x-x-x healer x-x-x-2 enhance. now this template only has 450 more force pool.but itdoesnt have meditate, or the improved heal at the 4th healer box, or force run.

However never having been a jedi myself i expect im missing something here. So does 450 force points make that big a difference? and is it rough not having the ability to run away?

I'm master lightsabre master defender healer 3 0 0 0 enhancer 0 0 0 2 and the reson it works so well is because as a master defender you take very little damage.Since they added a mind cost to heals the less you have to heal the better also this template is low force use.

you have master lightsabres for great offence advanced sabre throw is extremly good vs bounty hunters and anything at range.as a master defender you have so much defencethat it is inmost cases possible to channel force while fighting.

And finally you have the extra force pool + your template is very force efficient only aura valor and heals use much force the rest is all for your lightsabre so usually you don't have to do much running hehe.

By the way parwan nutracake can be used to give burst run to catch bounty hunters or if the worst happens run away

Personally i would recommend 2000 enhance as having force speed, FR1 and a root is much more beneficial than have a snare, transfer & meditate.

The down time to recharge is not so bad, and if you are grouped, then get somebody to transfer you force.

MLS / MDef / Heal 3000 / Enh 0002 has downsides. One big disadvantage is the lack of Force Run, Force Suppression and Force Cloak, leaving that template with no real counters to being kited by riflemen and carbineers.

Only if I was doing primarily group PvP and could expect people being able to /transferForce around me.
In my opinion, a MLS / MDef mastery is overrated for PvP purposes - Def xx4x / Enh x4x2 is an almost equal defense to a Master Defender (with some Force drawbacks), but way cheaper skill point wise than MDef, leaving more room for crowd control and healing.
MDef is only shining in PvE.

I would tend to agree that MDEF is vastly overated. Im MLS, Def 4440, Heal 4000 and Enh 3002. I can tank like a Mdef, PVP fairly well also and do great against BH with FR1 and Root. It works well for me as a great all around temp. I have considered dropping one of the def branches to go 3402 Enh for imp force armor, but spend more time helping guildies grind right now than pvp. Force armor is great for pvp, but not so hot in most PVE mobs

does the x-x-4-x line of def make a big difference? and is it more effecient at defending than say 4-4-x-x def?

or is 4-4-4-x def a better bet and just take 3-x-x-2 enhance and 4-x-x-x heal. forgoing meditate and improved force run

thanks for the input guys getting good points from both sides

Def 4440 / Enh 3002 and Def 4040 / Enh 3402 are both pretty viable defense strategies. With the Force Armor, you have a higher innate armor rating, but will pay a little Force for every hit you take. Its a personal choice if taking more damage up front and spending Force and combat rounds on more frequent heals (Def 4440 / Enh 3002) is better than taking less damage, but spending Force on the initial damage mitigation (Def 4040 / Enh 3402) is more beneficial.

The xx4x line of defender is a must if you are going to have it. Force run 2 is just basically for escape as it kills your damage when on unlike FR1. Meditate has the drawback of not being available while in combat unlike channel. So you decide. The whole problem is if you dont have a saber that is going to hit for min of 500 max damage, you are going to get owned by most BH there are. And if you think you won't be hunted, think again. Too many newer jedi(post-CU) have yet to learn the tricks of constantly thinking you are on the terms and that at least one person is coming for you

Im MLS MasterDef Enhancer 2000 healer 3000. And this temp works great for both pvp and pve i just really lerned to use the temp propperly i find i can kill most BH now and when i cant and its going really bad for me i just root them and fr1 off to safty so its fail safe for me

Same Template as me, BH without MCM fall in about 2mins, and BH with in about 5, the advantage with Mdef is not having to throw aura up all the time, - AI is usefull for tanking high level NPC's (when the going get's tough as they say).

The Root is priceless, but not as usefull as /follow

MLS gives that nice advanced saber throw which hits for slightly more dmg than leg/body/head, and if you time your knockdowns and roots you can get straight onto them and start pounding giving them no hope.

I really couldn't say how this would fair against other jedi as i've not fought many, and what the FRS will offer who knows.

But as a general all round PvE and PvBH template it's pretty good.
