I've been playing EQ2 for the last couple of days and I believe that their system of xp debt would translate very well to jedi and leveling padawan.
The way the system works in EQ2:
If you die, you gain what is known as xp debt. You gain a value such as 10%. This means that in order to level you would require an extra 10% xp. It isn't added to the top though. It goes like this.
Mageis 30% away from next level.
Magedies.
Magegets 10% xp debt.
Mageis now at 30% xp + 10% xp debt to level.
Mage kills some beetles and is at 25% xp + 8% xp debt.
Mage kills some rats and is at 22% xp + 6% xp debt.
Mage logs out for the night.
Mage logs in the next morning and requires 22% xp to level. (the xp dept goes away with time).
The way the system would work in SWG:
Jeti needs 600k until FR2.
Jeti gets killed by BH.
Jeti needs 600k until FR2 + 150k xp debt. (debt would be close to what the xp loss is now)
Jeti logs out for the night.
Jeti logs in the next morning and needs 600k until FR2 + 110k xp debt.
When you die, you haveseveral choices. Grind out your xp debt (like now), wait out the xp debt or a combination of the two.
The system encourages several things:
1) Dieing over and over in pvp becomes less of a pain if you ever want to re-template.
2) Slows down the leveling of Jedi when killed by BHs (as it does now).
and most importantly:
3) "Elimintates" Jedi from the galaxy. As a recently killed padawan you have a choice of either grinding out your xp debt or staying logged off. Ridding the galaxy of Jedi is what the Empire wants isn't it? Giving people another incentive to play their regular toon and not their jedi works into that storyline perfectly.

eq2 system is totally retarded. if you want that go play EQ2 with your season pass.
the OTHER Thing about EQ2 is taht when ANYONE in your group dies you acquire their XP loss debt too. have fun please drive through.
EQ2 was designed by taking every single retarded idea that was ever uttered and rolling it all into a MMORPG.

Hmmm.
*gets out the Mook translation dictionary*
I believe he began with a crude insult towards the original poster, then attempted to point out that his suggestion would help those who cannot play as much as others.
However, the original poster's suggestion would have the same effect either way. Someone who doesn't play often, their Jedi is seen less anyway... someone who plays more and logs their Jedi out to let the XP debt expire, their Jedi is seen less.

Why condem someone because they play EQ2 and SWG??
I saw a good idea that would translate well for jedi so I posted about it.
EQ2 has it's problems, as does SWG. For that matter, the new looting system we have is stolen from EQ2 but "we all hate it don't we". /sarcasm

Loose translation: "I'm a retard who can't play a lot and I think it's really funny but I'll help if I can" - Just kidding!!! ![]()

Actually I think this idea is a definite improvement over the way it is now. Try to grindyour debtoff or wait it out but not feel hopeless cuz your 10 mil in the hole.

When I played EQ2, that debt annoyed me. I think it would be a nice deterrent in game. It is forgiving in terms of decay, for such deaths that the user has no control over (LD, crashes, freezes, lag, etc). It is also easier to deal with psychologically seeing slower exp as compared to seeing a huge hole to try to climb out of. I think some form of this method would be a welcome change to the current system which I think is to severe considering the ease in which one may die due to the previously mentioned circumstances (and the ability people have to grief a jedi).

i condemn EQ2 because the XP system leveling system grouping system looting system all pretty much suck and there is nothing wrong with what we have now.
what i am trying to say is if i want to play EQ2 i can go play it but i dont because i like SWG and how things are done here. i dont WANT this game to turn into EQ2.
it raises a very ugly feeling in me. the greatest thing that attracted me to SWG was one of the developers stating that if it had anything that resembled EQ in SWG the team would be sure not to do that.

I love this idea.
I'm not sure about everyone else but I always feel guilty about not leveling my Jedi. It'd be better if SOE forced my hand to play my alts.
I think in general that this game is suffering largely because most people have no time to play. We are constantly in the battle to grind to jedi. Those that have a complete Jedi or have no asperations for Jedi are totally keeping the game alive by a thread.
This isn't good as the end game is a server full of Jedi with no average joes playing for fun. We have to change the approach to this. By making it a requirement to have Jedi use downtime you can infuse the server with a more realistic population of crafters and elite professions.
