Thread: Force Aura vs Force Armor2, pvp.
But did you test it? FA2 gives quite a solid extra boost to innate armor.
I have both
dont use force armor unless Im taking alot of damage. But it does come in handy from time to time.
I heard Aura is messed up at the moment?, could be mistaken. I'm a Powers/Enhancer, and FA2 is quite good as a basic defense, thing is, people hit you EVERY time, with Aura, they'll hit you less but for more. Kinda like the difference between TKM and Fencer pre-cu, Aura = Dodge, FA2 = Toughness.
If you feel lucky, I'd go Aura, if you want a more reliable defense, FA2. PLus you only have to activate FA2 every 30 mins, as opposed to 40 seconds for Aura.
Another point is that FA2 takes force off, what is already a force intensive disipline (Powers). Aura does'nt as much but the continous reactivation cancels this out IMO.
So to answer your question....I have no idea, it's been a question asked from the start, but in reality it's two different types of defense. I went with FA2 & novice defender, and I'd say thats an average defense, if you just go for one or the other you are going to be delicate, it's just he difference of being hit 3 times in 6 seconds for 500, 500, 500 or once in those 6 seconds for 1500.

if you have NO OTHER lines of defense that would give you above the +10 innate armor of initiate, then go with FA2 . . .
Aura only moves the damage range to the lower end whereas Armor is true protection (+40 innate armor)
I am a ME with basic aura so my opinion is somewhat skewed towards FA2
Exactly. FA2 is great if you can spare only one line for defence. Aura alone will not help you.
I've been MDef and I've been Def 4040 + FA2. The drain on the latter was unacceptable to me for high-end PvE and also in PvP.

FA2 gives you +40 innate armor w/ a force cost per hit. Why not take 4xxx defender instead for +42 innate armor and no force cost ?
The reason I didn't was
a) it takes more skillpoints, removing defender trees I could recover the 8 points from the novice
b) it gives less armor. Remember 20 comes from jedi initiate, so FA2 gives you +60 in total.
A typical Mpowers template is not build for tanking, therefore you can/need only to survive for short bursts of fire at you anyway, and you will need the added armor of FA2 even if it uses force.
Go FA2.
