Thread: Population Control posts will fail unless...

So, you came to the Jedi forums to post yet another idea regarding how to thin out the Jedi population. Perhaps you're not a troll. Perhaps your idea is well-intentioned. But before you click the "Submit Post" button, though, consider these points:

Be clear in your meaning. Is the goal of your suggested design:

(A) to cause Jedi characters to be less visable in cities?
or (B) to cause the toon to quit the Jedi profession and switch to non-Jedi professions?
or (C) to cause the account owner to cancel their SWG subscription?
or (D) to cause Jedi to not participate in one or more elements of game content available to non-Jedi? (e.g. GCW base raids, Mustafar quests, etc.).

If your answer is (A) then one-liner "bring back permadeath" statements probably won't help your case. That would probably induce (C) instead. "Bring back the saber TEF" might help, but you'll need to explain what it is (don't assume everyone is a 2-year veteran) and why it would be beneficial.

If your answer is (B), explain how that will benefit the game. A blanket statement of "a lower Jedi population means the remaining Jedi will be made more powerful" won't fly for some. For one thing, there's the trust issue. Not everyone trusts that, after a series of nerfs and the still-present Pearl issue, that the Developers would increase Jedi power after the population is decimated. Also, would there be an incentive for a Jedi to switch over to Swordsman or Pistoleer that goes beyond "you need to take one for the team because I say so", or is your plan merely to make Jedi so difficult that Jedi will drop it out of frustration (and probably lead to scenario C).

/sarcasm on
If your answer is (C), then you should explain the benefits of a lower subscription base.
/sarcasm off

You might consider disabling your auto-signature in your post if your default one says "i r uber and keel Jedai lotz, LOL". Your readers might suspect hate or an ulterior motive.

Placing "blame" on your fellow subscribers for "watering Jedi down" is probably a bad idea, too. So is bringing up outdated quotes from SOE/LA Producers from 2+ years ago. Just focus on the benefits of your proposal, taking into account how the game is TODAY and how easy/difficult the changes would be for SOE to implement. (Translation: "roll back the CU and throw away the last 6 months of Publishes" one-liners probably won't go very far).

Keep in mind that whatever you propose will be a very hard sell. You are asking your fellow subscribers to either change their playing habits or to abandon the Jedi profession altogether. If you lace your post with hate: no sale!

Finally, keep in mind the Jedi community is not homogenous. Meaning: not everyone is Master Sabers + Master Defender with a 700+ damage saber who shares the same views on Jedi as you do. So if you make a statement like "Jedi were never intended to be (insert your views here)", be prepared to defend it.

ok for one Jedi population control is the most ridiculous damned thing I have ever heard of. I have 2 accounts play what I want, when I want. I am almost unlocked and when I do I will play that and grind my Jedi some. Then I may, like I often do now, go play with my MRanger/MRifleman and do some hunting. To sit there and propose a culling measure for a character class in a game is ludicrous. Too Many? Please. Thats like saying there were/are too many RM/CM's or pub 9 and before too many melee stackers. People play what they want to and enjoy it for what it is. To take that enjoyment out of a game takes the people out of the game, hence the game will fail. Afterall it is a GAME anything done in said game does not effect your life outside of it one way or the other.

You forgot about "Jedi have completely ruined the game"... they don't think they have to explain why, and they usually put a timestamp on when it happened (Pub 9). Funny how the game has been ruined in there opinion, but they've continued to agonizinglyplay for the last year and a half inspite of it all.

Judging from Page 1 of the Jedi forums, it appears another bump is necessary. /sigh

Simple. It may not be the most "creative" but it works...

(1) Make everyone (Currently Jedi) "Force Wielders"

(2) Have Dark and Light Force Wielder, allow them to get to the level of full temp (1.5x as Strong), make Master Jedi, no stronger and if stronger maybe 1.75 normal rather than 1.5

(3) Makeit possible to become Jedi/Sith, you would not be hugely more powerful but you would get content, another level of play, and the knowledge that you are among the rarest. Limit it to 120 per server. It would sort of be 3rd-6th Tier,1 being the regular players (1.00x as Strong), 2 being the force wielders (1.5x as Strong), 3 being the jedi (1.6x as Strong), 4 being Jedi Knights (1.7x as Strong), 5 being Jedi Guardian(1.725x as Strong), and 6 being Jedi Master (1.75x as Strong) end game.

There would still be Jedi, they would be very rare, and they would not be game breaking. Everyone could reasonably get force powers though getting the title Force Wielder, and be strong enough to defeat Jedi fairly regularly. The Force Wielders may not get the content, think of them as the village people vs. the Sith Pirates, and they may not get the Dark Jedi v. Light Level of play, but it would give everyone what they need. Plus the ULTRA gamers could have some sort of end game to play for, without destroyign it for the non gamers like me lol~~

Mine is better...

My Jedi nerf commandments

A Good Jedi suggestion does NOT contain:

-Mentioning of Permadeath in attempt to bring it back.
-Limiting the Jedi population of any kind.
-Massive nerfing of another jedi class.
-Skill box/master box loss.
-Lowering a classes skills.
-Punishing a class.
-Lowering experience for a group/an action.
-Punishes everyone else/or many in the community except You.

If anything, ALL classes should be getting stronger and all the teirs should be going UP not down. Nobody needs nerfs, we all need content. If your suggestion has any of the above things mentioned, it's definately not a good suggestion. It's a game, nobody's gameplay should be changed in any way. I don't know how many of these type of suggestions I read that I just get kinda sick. People forget it's not the movies. If it was, we'd be cutting your head off in 1 swipe while you can't shoot us for beans.

well if you have option (B) then you won't have groups of 8 overt jedi cloaked in theed load-ganking overts shuttling in.

you also won't have a situation where in a 1 vs. 1 fight the jedi will always win. right now it takes an exceptionally great PvP'er like me to kill a jedi in a 1 on 1 fight, but if you take just an average player and pit him against a jedi, then the jedi has an instant "i win" button.
