Actually, it looks exactly like a PS2 with fins on the bottom. Literally. It's the same color and everything.

The lava skiff you loot off an NPC on (I believe) the final leg of Obi-Wan's quest.

The pre-order skfif is the desert skiff.

Both are capable of traveling over the lava.

Any vehicle travels just fine over lava, you just tend to die quickly in most of them.

Hah, this is true. Guess I should've said that the lava skiff and desert skiff and travel "safely" over the lava.

Are you sure about the desert skiff traveling safely over lava. Seems that I died once or twice trying that.

Are there any quests that require you to cross lava, or is it just a shortcut if you can?

Because I have 6 different characters on my account, I can only get 1 Skiff and 1 Lava Flea, that leaves me 4 characters that won't be able to travel the lava until I apparently get one of these lava skiff things? That would suck to be excluded from quests because I can't cross the lava

In the Dev chat a couple nights ago, they said that they changed the desert skiff so it could travel over lava.

If that's the case, sure makes the lava skiff seem redundant. Plus, looting a skiff off an NPC...? Sure, that's plenty logical.
