Alright now I'm really confused. Are there two different skiffs? In the developer chat Rouge_5 very specifically said that the 8 person transport skiff could travel over lava. Is that the same as this desert or lava skiff that you all are talking about or is that something else.
I made a pledge to myself that I wouldn't buy another expansion until I could complete all the quests I attempted on the last one. Right now I have a toon that is stuck on a quest in the myyydril caverns and it doesn't look like it will be fixed anytime soon so there won't be an 8 person skiff coming my way with a pre-order. At least now I might be able tocomplete the mining ship quest. If the flea is required to get around then I won't order at all simply on principle since there is only one per account.
You do not need to cross lava to do quests, it just helps if you want to take the more direct route somewhere.
You can safely cross over lava with a lava flea mount, a desert skiff (8-sitter), a lava skiff, and also with a jetpack.
Lava fleas *will* be tradeable (but still just one per account).

The lava skiff and desert (pre-order) skiff are two different vehicles, but both can travel over lava now.
