Thread: CURB = The Great Item Nerf?!!?

With the upcoming CURB and the release of the Anti-decay Kit i have a suspicion that SOE will be nerfing ALL EXISTING WEAPONS and ARMOR.

That is what it seems to me anyhow and i think that it will actually be good for the game if they do nerf them.

Why?

Simple, that is the only true thing that will balance the game.

I believe that having players have to trade in their weapons, the way that CH and Non-CH had to trade in invalid pets after the CH nerf, will put everyone at the same starting point. Anything else would just spin the perpetual inbalance further and will will make quitters out of those who didnt spend their days and nights camping and looting to have the best stuff.

As it is the anti-decay kit will make the +360 day players have the upper hand, since they will have either a weapon or pcs of armor that will be invulnerable to decay. I think this is a nice present given to us Veterans and do not think that post CURB would be frowned so much upon, assuming that the above scenario plays out.

Why did i write this post?

#1) i wanted to see if others had this general impression.

#2) i also wanted to post my concern in a public forum so that the DEV's can take this player concern into account.

it simple..i think "to the degree" of each item being good ( or great, or exceptional, or legendary, or horrible), currently . It should remain that way after the CURB.

plain and simple

I agree, when I read your title I was going to give ya a lecture Anyways, for those thinking of it as an "Item Nerf", I would think of it more as a "Item Rebalance", some items we own are too strong for our own good.

-I support a Galactic Civil War fought between regular, average players... Simply strict, hardlined Imperials & freedom lovin' Rebels fighting for control of the galaxy. A Galactic Civil War fought not with glowsticks or lightsabers, but with blasters, lances, and how much guts you have. A Galactic Civil War which reflects the timeline, the destruction of the Death Star, the absolute control which the Empire has and the brave Rebels trying to break up that reign... The extinction of all but a few rare and special Jedi. That my friends, is the Galactic Civil War and that is what we have to aim for.

First this is roughly just speculation. There are probably 200 weaponsmiths and armorsmiths operating at varying levels on each server. Expecting these people who make up the backbone core of your games success to overnight adapt and change is asking a whole lot of customers. If your going to do things right there should be a very positive incentive to opt into the program. My guess is that your assertion that a nerf is coming is actually incorrect. I believe weapons will actually become stronger to give the crafting community an incentive to continue to participate. It would dishearten many crafters to wake up on CU release and find 90% of there weapon stock needing a trade in and its usefulness reduced. Who would still want to play after seeing that done to there very hard work? Anyone who argues being a crafter is easy should look at the spreadsheets these guys work on for parts.

What about armor? My guess is that composite is going to be come low-middle of the road. That new armors will be more effective than its composite counterpart to varying damage types as described in release cu documentation. This pleases crafters with new interesting schematics and challenges. My understanding is that different blaster setting effect ap. Or something to that effect. Again not really a nerf if you are getting new better armor to craft.

Buffs won't they get weaker? Would you want to have 1000's of accounts pissed they own millions in useless resources because buffs aren't really necessary anymore? I sure wouldn't want that backlash. With stronger weapons and the new armor system I think good buffs and food will remain as a KEY to victory. It may be more a factor than armor and weapons in the new system due to the gun settings ability to hit weaknesses.

So to summarize my thoughts in a nifty sentence. Most likely we are going to get better weapons then what currently exist capable of doing more varying damage types with the ability to penatrate different types of armor depending on classification, with the winner of any fight determined by the participant who has better food and buffs that can more easily adapt.

Not really a nerf by my estimations of what I have read so far about the CU. Plus it isn't even in BETA yet. They are still considering beta apps according to the email I received. Worry not young SOE customer. You know nothing of nerfs unless you where a BH/Commando/CH back in the day of eyeshot, flamers and monster rancors. As a former BH/CH I got wacked twice. To bad really because BH and CH use to be a lot of fun to play. 2 GSP's and spamming eyeshot from a krayt scatter was fun and easy. GLanyone usingthat template now. They may as well /suicide.

Frankly it doesn't much matter if stuff is "nerfed" with the CU. Everything it changing any ways. They have already stated what is "uber" now....will be "uber" after the CU. So even if the stats change, it's not going to matter. Good post though.

many believe these anti-decay kits, krayt population boom, lewt drops etc are all a 'last taste of eden' before they get the hell nerfed out of them after the CU. I for one, can't wait for the balancing of weapons, armour, pets etc and am looking forward to seeing how the population reflect upon the changes.
