Thread: toow quest rewards = no trade :(
What is this subtle value that is added? There is no value to a stock you can't sell.
I don't even know where to begin a reply to this post. Well actually I do. No other developer quote that I have read has caused me to lose as much faith in the direction the developers want to take this game as the one above. It's up front and in your face saying no more playing the game the way you want to, we're going to make you play it the way we want you to. We don't want you to have this little item unless you run through our little mouse maze.
If someone earns a reward they should damn well earn the right to do what they want with it. In fact the no trade items I earned in RotW are the worst rewards of that expansion. The subtle value that was added to those items was the ability to be useless. But I must say you pegged that in your post there, they can be sold to JUNK dealers.
Like winning a lottery where they put millions in a bank account you can't withdraw from.
The more I think about this the more I’ve come to realize the entire point of this policy is an attempt to make people buy the expansion they may otherwise have no desire of purchasing.
Well I’m not buying the expansion now or any future expansion if all it is a bunch of quest for items that I can only put in my bank or sell to a junk dealer.
The whole logic behind this is idiotic. People interested in pretty shinny things mostly like them for their value. So your thinking if you make it so they have to buy the expansion to get their pretty shinny things they will. But you’re making the pretty shinny things worthless in the process. You see the problem?
I’m really getting tired of this sleezy used cars salesman mindset that seems to dictate a lot of design. “Make it so they have to buy it!!!!” the marketing twits say. Some people will and will think less of the company for the low ball tactics.
You would do a lot better by making it so people want to buy it because it’s a fun quality experience.Message Edited by ObiQuixote on 10-13-2005 09:35 PM

quite frankly I'm suprised that this isn't creating a greater uproar on the items and loot forums.
Imagine these cases:
You do the quest on your rifleman. The reward for the one quest is a sword. Now you have a weapon you can't use. You can't give it to your friend/alt because its untradable, so its either something you delete or place in your house. Next you do another quest that gives you a rifle. Great you can use it, but you can never get another one! You can only do a quest one time and can't get the rifle from a friend. So basically there is no point in doing most of the quest with your jedi if you have one, since they don't use looted weapons.
There might be some quests that give one ofmany different types of rewards. If you can only do the quest once, and can't trade to get the quest item, there is no way you can ever display both of those items in your house! Further limiting the amount of loot you can collect.
I know sometimes I sell my loot to others in an effort to make some extra money to buy items I need. That is no longer possible either. Since the items can only be used by you, we're told if we want to sell them to offer them to a junk dealer.....LOL....I'm sure I can really buy what I need with the 1500 credits the junk dealer gives me, compared to the million I could get on the trade forums.
Finally its the crafters who really get the shaft here. Most of the quest content involves fighting or a high danger encounter. The cl 1 crafters that we have are going to be dead instantly. If they're dead they can't do the quests, if they can't do the quests they can't get the reward schematics, and since they can't trade to get them, they are effectively removed from that content.
Please force the devs to reconsider the illogical move to make the rewards non-tradable. I know I won't be happy with that change, and neither should anyone that looks in the items and loot forums!

lol if there not tradeable then you wont be able to dissplay them in your house

you can trade the items along with your account
lol they want to taunt you then every time you go into your house youll think what a expensive worthless piece of junk
Actually I think they went to the trouble to code it so you could drop and pick them up in your house if you own the house. Desperately trying to make these items useful in same way while not being tradable.

Doh, I'm a rifleman.
Damn, can't trade it.
Phew and thank god, I can still drop it in my house.

wheres the post by the dev's saying that quest items will be non tradeable? Well, atleast the drops will be tradeable unlike WoW.
beta forums.
from blixtev:
We are using No Drop for a vaierty of reasons this expansion. Mainly because it requires you to do the content to earn the rewards. Some of the new content is very difficult and it will take a solid team of people operating together to beat it. This adds a subtle value to items that before anyone spamming in the Mining Outpost on Dantooine could aquire.
Most quest rewards are going to be no drop. If you get something you cant or do not want to use, it can either be displayed in a House you are the owner of, or you can sell it to a junk dealer if you do not want it clogging up inventory space. Most of the new loot/rewards can be sold off for credits to junk dealers.Message Edited by GlargTheKelfn on 10-13-2005 10:15 PM
I call BS on Blixtev. This is nothing but a blatant attempt to sell more units. If you can't trade or buy for an item from there, you have to spend $30 to buy the expansion. BS!

Hey, as long as the junk dealers pay millions for these items im down for it. If they don't hey, glad i just waisted 30 bucks =/
Who is blixtev? Is he with SOE or is he just a beta tester???
Someone needs to call SOE on the carpet for this one... I really would like to have this substantiated by Tiggs or whomever, because this is a definite cancellation if it is true...

There are already items in-game that do that, like your talky-force crystal and the trophies from the Hermit quests. Only the owner can place them in a structure they own, and no one else can even move them.
