Thread: Black Sun Armor

Pre-CU myself and my IG partner made our fortune from Black Sun hunting.

After weeks of work we had finding, killing and looting down to a fine art and in the end opened up a vendor which we couldn't stock fast enough for the demand, so I considerus quite an authority on this

Post-CUwe have no chance, sorry. You needfull experiencedgroups due to the high CL of them, which just to organise running around Yavin (the best place to find BS by the way) would be a nightmare. Most people would get fed up of the 1 in 40 loot average (it was quite possible to do 2 x3 hour buff sessions pre-CU and get nothing but creds and junk loot) and now you have 8 people to "pay", we operated as a team of 2 and worked towards the business as well as making sure we had the armour we both wanted.

On top of that, this may not be on all servers, but on Chimaera I saw the other day that someone was trying to sell BH armour and the general concensus is that as it is now called "crafted bh armour" that it will one day be player craftable and so people aren't paying what they used to. We used tosell at 1-3.5 mil per piece and as I said, we couldn't stock it fast enough. On opening day we had 42 pieces on the vendor... 24 hours later it had 3 left, and for the following month it was mostly empty with e-mails for orders on what people wanted. This guy on the trade forum the other day couldn't even get 750k a piece, apart from the helmet.

I'm afraid unless you have 7 very very good friends who dont mind spending 2-3 weeks just hunting Black Sun for no payout (well, a few k creds from loot) the chance of looting yourself a whole suit now is pretty much zero. Which is a real shame imo

Although not entirely wrong I have to take some issues with the posts above (not Jaxy's).

Black Sun mobs on Yavin IV and Dathomir range from level 84 - 88. They have a chance of dropping Bounty Hunter Armour. The Bounty Hunter Armour they drop can be used to craft Mandolorian Armour from the DWB.

Bounty Hunter Armour looted pre CU now shows as being "crafted Bounty Hunter Armour". This can be "converted" into non wearable Bounty Hunter Armour by calling up the radial menu on the item and selecting the conversion option. Once you do this the Bounty Hunter Armour can be used to make Mandolorian Armour.

However the way Mandolorian is made now has changed. You still use all the bits and pieces as before except now you received a Schematic for making Mandolorian and then have to use a piece of BH in the crafting process. I believe there is currently a "bug" (no supprise really) and you can use any BH pieces OR schematics (never seen head nor tail of these schems nor know anyone that has). More information can be found on the Armour Smith forum although as the DWB is super hard now the info is still sparse.

To go back to hunting Black Suns now I suggest you take a couple of mates along with you. A party of 1 tank and 1 dmg dealer should be enough but 3 is a good number for looting purposes and general chat etc. The most difficult part of hunting them post CU is that they despawn very fast. You can have one down to a couple of hundred hit points and it can still go "poof" on you and vanish. If I had a choice I would take 2 Riflemen and TKM whenever I was fighting them. Although I gues thats redundant tactics these days since everyone their grandmother and their grandmothers dog has a Jedi character. In which case take one Defender and a Rifleman.

Jaxy -

Yeah I KNOW it can't be crafted, but the problem still remains that people's perception of it is that it will be able to be crafted one day due to the "crafted" naming so they're not paying big prices for it like they used to.

This was in the end why we finished selling it really. As the CU approached there were too many rumours that it would be craftable by a normal AS so the bottom fell out the market (also after 10 weeks of just killing BS it was getting very boring!)

Personally take the chance to buy it now at cheap prices before it comes back in fashion! (This is not an advert btw, we left that business a couple of months ago *grin*)

Asterz -

That's good to know, thanks hun. My info on this was based on a group of 4-5 lvl 80'sgetting wiped out on Endor the other day when they ran into some BS there. I guess they just didn't have the right mix or know how to deal with them?

And yes, these may be THE hardest mob in the game now that's not dungeon related

not by a long shot. the hardest mob's in the game (they're not in any dungeon) don't drop loot... most i've gotten is 3 credits. as one of the dev's said at the bar after fan fest, you oughtta get a badge for killing those things. you think 80+ is tough, lol, go after the lvl 500 bad boys, now those hurt, and my respect goes out to any group (or coordinated groups) that can kill even one of these suckers post CU

Took a bunch of these with just a partner, and even soloed a few last week with a Mpowers/Mdefender template. We are talking about the enclave sentinels, yes? Hit me for 31k a hit.

8 mil?

Looks like 1.5 mil with a 2 mil bid after it ended to me?

I'm not doing this to flame you, but it's unfair to lie to people that you got 8 mil, they go and spend time and effort to hunt BS (and it's not like it's an easy camping situation, you have to actually go find them and kill a few to loot) and then they find it's worth far far less.

Um, I'd like to add some things from my experience.

All BSdo DB, but chances seem to be pretty low.

BS on Yavin are CL88 and 89 Elite.

They are indeed soloable for a non-jedi with the right tactics.

I usually go to Yavin to hunt them. NW of the Mining Outpost along the shoreline and aroundthe mountain.

Dunno about the actual loot rates now, but I've killed about 100 of them post-CU and only have 2 armor pieces so far. Pre-CU, it took me about 500 kills to complete my set (without the belt).

You'll need at least1 tank to make them use their melee weapons so they don't shoot. They hit much harder if they're using ranged weapons.

A group of 3 or 4 should beenough if the tank knows what they're doing.

A nice group I went withthe other nightconsisted of a BH/Doc, Sword/TKM meleestacker, Pistol/CH, and a Sword/Rifle. We were able to take on 2 at a time.

Pets/droidsactually help alot since they won't get agro and basically work the same as a DoT now.

And my tip of the day is...

HENCHMEN NEVER SWITCH TO RANGED.

Personally, I don't think I'd sell a single post-CU piece for under 5M, and I'd probably pay 10M or more per piece if I were the buyer looking for a specific part needed to complete a set.

I took 3 guildees and i'm not saying which planet but i saved every wp of the spawns we found and we have a dozen or so wp's now and we looted a jetpack base and a bh bracer. We didn't even hunt that long. We had about a minute or two wait between spawns. But I know of a sweet spot for em.

I was able to get a full set of the unwearable stuff before the pass, hoping with a full set you would unlock a schem or something. Now it just sits in a backpack. Now they are too tough to solo and grouping for them just isnt worth it unless you're an AS wanting to craft Mando.

Now whats fun is kiting the 2 Jedi sentinals into the ocean and popping them for ca's
