Thread: Bio-Linked Items, death of all that trade with looted items & quest rewards?

Seems like someone at the SW:G team thought that copying WoW's system on soulbinding item's, and other fantasy mmorpgs, here calledbio-linking, is the best idea since pop-corn. I however see a few problems with it.

First they made easy quests with really really good dps weapons as reward, but half trough they must have a change of hearth since thewager quests in the hunting grounds only gives nodrop/notrade items(ie 4lots in your bank will be used up for storage). Don't get me wrong, I can get bio-linking forfactional armor, can even think of it as a storydriven choise ie"making sure only our troops can use the armor.) Now the craze hascome to other rewards (reads todays patch notes.)

So where does this leave usthat hunts iteams to makea profit for ourself? Well here is what I forsee.

- Harder getting buyers.

-Useful items never everbeing used since they after theyBio-Link are, useless for anyone else unlessthey put itup on a wall.

A items cost isafterall linkedto how useful the item is, even if the owner is a crafterthat has the item for display, howeverremove the usefulness, and the prices will drop, and drop they will.Ican'treally understand the movein this direction sinceno devs hasmade anycommentsaboutwhy they are using it.I haveagutfeeling that BruceDickinson, the SOE producer has a finger into this, seeing what statements he has given out over the past weeks togamingsites like IGN and such.Just becuse other games are using systems likethis, that doesn'tmeen itis fiting for SW:G to useit, infact, it just makes SW:G a copycat where it used to be a uniquegame with features thatmade it diffrent fromany other game, and made other mmorpg copy features that SW:G was first to use.

To sum things up.

- CURB: nice! (yes I do like it :< )

- Bio-Linking items: bad, it's just not Star Wars in anyway, it acctually worked good for 2years before this idiotic change.

- Reconsider this one devs, no-one will punish you for removing it, infact, I think you will make alot of friends.

It's not just that the quest reward weapons have really good stats(proton carb, katarn knuckler), it's that in some cases they are the best weapons in the game for their class with their high dps and low action cost. If these items are tradeable, some players will acquireenough so that they may never have to purchase a crafted weapon again or they can simply use an ADK on the weapon. That's kind of a slap in the face of a crafter like me who has spent 16 months and hundreds of hours collecting resources to make the best weapons possible. Now all a player has to do is spend fifteen minutes running a quest mission and I'm out of a job.

In the old system, there were looted weapons that were way better, sometimes by a factor of 2 or 3, than anything that could be crafted, but they were so rare that they didn't really affect the crafters. Without bio-linking or some other system to limit the number of quest reward weapons a player can accumulate, there's no reason a MBH would ever buy a crafted weapon since the Proton carb is better than anything we can build.

I edmit that the biggest problemof all is the lack of weapons for weaponsmiths to build that is acctually good compared to reward weapons, even though base DPS is far from the biggest importance in a gun as first thought.

The whole issue with the quest rewards/items is the fact that weaponsmiths should have gotten a far larger number of new schematics then they did, and that they should atleast be on pair with thequest items. So far to my (limited) knowledge the only pistol that is equal to the new pistols in DPS is krayted DL 44 XTpistols. It pretty much goeswithoutsaying thateverycombatant supportsweaponsmiths and crafters right to be abletocraft usable reliable weapons& item for us to use, andI feel thatBio-Linkeditems is a anotherblow in the face of all communitys.

It's sort of an 3 step processsee.

step 1) shaft the crafters.

step 2) introduce easy to obtain questweapons that kicks _ass_

step 3)suddenly understanding that it wasn't tobright, slaping Bio-Link and/or notradeable status onthem.

i wish the crafters would stop wanking. there are already weapons being made on wanderhome (the ghetto galaxy) that are quite a bit better than the drops. make good stuff, don't overprice and you have no probs.

i do think that biolinking is one of the most moronic ideas ever. so i drop a prof and cant use that armor, now it's wall waste.

how is it that we got by for 2 years with out that, yet now it's manditory....

The reasoning behind Bio-linking and weather it belongs or not is a different argument, but maybe with this "smuggler revamp" (atleast their not calling it an upgrade, yet) that is one of the abilities they will give them seeing as how slicing armor is pretty much worthless right now, and slicing weapons is a joke. Maybe they will give us the ability to let a bio-linked gun be usable by another player, meaning you want to sell your 3+ mil credit gun its gona cost ya but its possible.

I think they do it to force players to buy JTL and ROTW to get to these items, as you can't buy then from someone else ....

I'd be happy if they'd at least make this biolinked junk droppable so it can be placed in a house for display.

Already there -you can't trade or even show Bio-Linked items in a Trade window - it pops right back out and tells you no.

I'm a bit confused here. I was able to trade neutral clone armor to my Imperial character with no problems at all, then bio link it and wear it. Has something changed?

I thought Bio Linking a object just made it so that if you bio linked it, only you could use it.
