Let folks use Lightsabers and reduce the damage like any other weapon. Anybody should be able to turn one on and swing it. If you want add a chance that they hit themselves. Some folks just want to be able to show one off. I honestly think you would have less folks trying to be jedi just to wave a lightsaber arround. Also these would of course be contraband worse than any sliced weapons and recieving the attention they realy deserve.

nice idea, but the logistics don't work out for the time period, i know it doesn't hold true, but there is only meant to be a few jedi, not half the population. so lightsabers would be hard to come across

The problem with lightsabers is that they need to have the crystals/pearls tuned. Since only jedi can do that and can only use the lightsaber that they tuned, it would not really be feasible for the rest of us to have them.

I think Lightsabers Should be Jedi only or 2 reasons
Reason 1
You would actually have to work on jedi so you could have a saber
Reason 2
That jedis are tyhe only things that get visiblity in the game

While it may be true that in game you need to tune your "crystals and pearls" but in the movies, did you ever see obi-wan or anikin, or even luke for that matter tune and "pearl or crystal." I just recently watched the trilogy, and obi-wan just handed luke his fathers old lightsaber, and he turnt it right on and started swinging it around, grant it he wasnt good with it, but the fact is that he didn't tune anything nor was he a jedi at the time. Any player character should be able to turn a lightsaber on say they find one, which could be a very rare loot or something along the matter of killing an npc jedi and taking their lightsaber. The damage on looted lightsabers would be very crappy, which would just make the person who looted it look like a fool by weilding it, and whether the person that weilds it or not is a jedi, he could be hunted by bounty hunters for suspect of being a jedi, for a reasonable price say 50k, because he is weilding a lightsaber. Anyways thats just my .02 so do with it what you will.

hell, even han used one! hehe id liek to see some foolish NUbs swinging lighsabers around, only to get beaten down by some BHs.

the Star Wars RPG (WOTC) gives bonuses for a Jedi wielding a lightsabre he has constructed, otherwise what would the Padwan's train with?

I agree, there shouldnt be anything stopping a non jedi from turning one on. You would still have to get a jedi to make one for you, so it wouldnt be anything different than it would have been in the past. There are plenty of people in the EU that have an old lightsaber they got from one place or another, so its not far fetched at all. Surely rare, but not unreasonable. Of course I really dont see why you can't dont faction items even if they arent your faction. Course the punishments for getting caught impersonating a stormtrooper could be severe, but still.

I could see smugglers using Lightsabers. They would welcome BHs coming after them and pwn them with concussion and stopping shot.

In the CU, you cant even arm a weapon you are certified for...

that has kind of changed, most weapons are based on combat level now so you can equip and use (without any damage reduction) any weapons equal to or below your combat level.
I think everyone being able to use a saber is a bad idea

Alright I think this is a terrible idea
1) Break continuity from the Star Wars universe. Only jedi could create lightsabers they did this using the force...
2) Then we'd see milions of people in CNET running around with lightsabers, dancers dancing with them...
Cmon lightsabers are used by the elite... this would ruin jedi forme
