Thread: Back to joke profession?

Now we seem to be back to pre timers where we are the joke profession. On many forums people suggest mastering ID since it takes a few hours only to master to get elite points they can respec...

I also it is a kind of bittersweet victory. It is now easy to master the profession, but I am up to 4044 all during the "timer system" none of it under the improved timer system...

it is not a joke but it is reality,
and the fact that respec is close to being gone,
let them grind ID to master other profs.

It does not take away from working IDs.

I am one that says do it,

I want folks to respec asap so the whole thing is done and gone,

and if this is the fastest way so be it

grind master respec rinse repeat get on with the game

Whining that we were a joke profession (which was never actually true, by the way) is what got us those horrid timers in the first place. I said it then, I'll say it now—how long it takes to master has nothing to do with the value (real or perceived) of this profession. Gunbunnies who don't understand the artistry and love put into each ID session aren't going to respect us whether it taked 5 minutes to master or 5 years—they'll just think we're masochistic as well as a joke if it's the latter. I guess my point is, be careful what you wish for. We've already gotten it once, and only a very small portion of the community was happy with it.

Hopefully they won't damage anyone too badly while they're grinding through. The sooner they finish, the sooner they won't be infesting the image design profession with their talentless leet doodism.

We aren't the joke. The people who grind a profession in this way are not learning how their respec profession will work by levelling up in that profession. I think the joke will be on them.

Aww... don't be too hard on those respec-abusers... some of them might even be hidden ID-talents who start to like our profession as we do

Most of the respecs should be done by now just leaving the token-respec as a last chance for most.

Oh and about ID being a joke-profession I can only say that I prefer the therm fun-profession.You don't need to be an important part of the game-mechanic with a 100 hour minimum-grind to master to have fun playing this game

I'm a gunbunny so bear with me....but I never thought of ID as a joke profession as it and tailor are some of the few professions that require an actual "eye" to do well. Like any other profession everyone has the same raw skills but the person playing the character makes it either shine or laughable.Timers were annoying both to customers( I used to get ID'd regularly) and craftsfolk. Be careful about pining for their return

As it stands ID is a luxury profession, basically something you don't need but is really neat to have. Its great to be able to do all these things that nobody can do probably in any other MMORPG. I'm probably repeating other peoples' posts but I believe the problem that lies isn't timers, its the fact that we aren't needed. So far the only attempt to make IDs needed was the stat migrations and that stopped after the CU.

As someone who's been a full-time ID before Stat Migrations, I can say, we *are* needed. We're not required, but we are definitely needed. Otherwise, I wouldn't be as busy as I am.

I don't think ID is a waisted profession at all, far from it. My ID alt gets quite a lot of tells asking for my services. It sometimes gets to a point where I drop the MID tag so I can have a bit of peace. I made around 700k last week in ID tips. Players seem to be wanting my services more now for some reason.

There have been many improvements to character customizations in several MMO's since Star Wars went live, and in many of them there is no equivalent "Image Designer" class. Most of them simply allow the character to change themselves through terminals or such, and a few simply don't allow a change after character creation.

Unfortunately, this lack of 'professional input' results in something we are all way too familiar with, as ID's...

Stick figures with big boobies, and impossibly buff superhumans. These games simply place the power in the player's hands, and these players rarely, if ever, use the options. By making an Image Designer class in SWG, the Developers created a setup whereby a selection of players who ENJOY the character customization and use it often, may use the skills they learn in DAY-TO-DAY use of the system to help others who are either less experienced or who find it less enjoying to twiddle the little bars in the interface.

The result is a playerbase of mostly professional-looking image jobs, which in turn increases the enjoyment of the whole game, and furthermore makes the new experience more fascinating for a new character.

I mean, C'mon... nobody wants to log into a new Star Wars game to find several highly emaciated females with obviously fake breasts wailing about like loonies in the Cantina... that's just not Star Wars

Yes, that's soooo true. I mean professions like ID and Tailor combined with Dancer and Musician are one element, that truely distinguish SWG from other MMOs like Wow for example... There every Tauren Warrior looks more or less the same. Sure, there are different parts of armor and weapons, but after some time they all look more or less the same. Same heights, same width, same face, same everything... sure, there are some minor details, but it's not as if anyone looks at them or notices them.

Here we have the ability to highly customize the appearance of our avatars and we can even change that in the game. We can change our cloths to look completely different even without changing anything about the avatar him/herself. In SWG we have true alternatives for killing monsters or other players or disappearing in dungeons for hours just to get better items.

We can have a true party in game and not just pretend to have one. We can just go over to the next cantina for a drink and watch that sexy Twilek dancer Duo and listen to the fat Trandoshan at the omnibox and his fancy ithorian partner with his slitherhorn. We can even truely go shopping here thanks to our very unique economical system. Not just standing motionless at some terminal and that's it...

And if we are bored with that we can jump into our ships and have a party on board of our Luxury yachts or fight epic battles in space...

I really don't have a problem with professions or abilities that are just for show or for fun. They make this game much more than just another level-your-toon-game.
