Thread: Leveling this Profession...
IDhas got to be the silliestprofession in the game in terms of leveling. As of right now the only way to truly level your skillsis to practice on a friend (or yourself if there isn't one around). It's not even worth it to try to level onactual customers because of how muchlonger it takes (finding them, ehan having them refuse 20 times "It's still too dark, make it just a tad lighter"). And what fun is clicking 20 million times on yourself?
My suggestion? Well, I thought you'd never ask. Here goes...
NO exp from ID'ing yourself.
First time you ID someone yourecieve (X) XP. Second time you ID on that same person, you get 3/4 of (X) XP, 3rd time you get something like 1/2 (X) XP, etc... After like 4 or 5 tries on the same person, you stop getting XP from them.
Taketoo long to levelyou say? Not necessarily. Not if they dramatically upped the XP you get fromIDing a new person, say 5-10 times what you get now. Also, we can get a bit more lenient for the possibilty of repeat customers, and say that the cap only stays in effect for 1 week RT. After 1 week, you get fresh XP from anold customer.
Just my 2 cents... Would love to hear your take.
1) Practice Mode.. I think that they should have a practice mode in image design.. offer 5% extra xp when crafting makeup items..
2) Make a new crafting skill with the image designer.. YES Thats right! crafting with an image designer.. Im not crazy.. I think that image designer should be able to use food & chem crafting tools and stations to craft their own makeup items.. they can choose the color and experiment the amount of charges up on the item if they get higher in their image design skills..
3) Make it so that all charactors are born (created) without makeup.. these people must track down either an entertainer or image designer to buy makeup from.. every day the makeup should be wiped off their face needing to be re-applied..
4) Limit the amount of colors of makeup by level.. Basic Entertainers will have the basic colors and shades.. very basic.. by Image IV they will have the ability to do maybe 6-10 colors.. basic things..
Makeup Crafting: My ideas for makeup crafting are really interesting.. they take a few resource types... Chem, Organic, Water and some more specific types... Petrochemical, Inert petrol..., water, and perhaps some fruits and berries for coloring.. I could see makeup getting harder to make as you get higher but never should take more resources.. The resources should be as such..
4 water, 8 petrochemical, 2 berries for lipstick
2 water, 6 inert petrol, 2 berries for eyeshadow
4 water, 4 petrochemical, 2 berries for Blush (new type of makeup I will get to it)
Crafting these items will give more and more image design experiance (more then actually image designing someone.. from 50-200 exp depending on the level of the makeup) They will start with aprox 6 charges.. but can be experimented up, each charge is one us (which means one day worth) of makeup.. the best experimentation could possibly get the item up to 14 or so charges which is 2 weeks worth of makeup! You will get more color possiblities in makeup crafting and actual allowance of makeup colors (putting a color on someone else) each facial makeup level.. Blush starts at intermediate facial and gets a few new shades as they get higher in the skills.. All makeup available to basic entertainers becomes available to craft once someone gets to novice image designer skills... each facial skill grants 20 crafting and experimentation skill in makeup.. Master Image Designer grants 40.. this way the image designer will be able to experiment 7 times total on a makeup item.. so your long term customers can now purchase their favorite colors from you for their own personal use!
I think this would add a whole new dynamic to the image designer profession, just as the instrument crafting did for the musician class..
The image designer gets 5% extra xp on crafting makeup when using practice mode just as other crafters though (the practice mode I was talking about..) and this will be the primary xp of the image designers.. not needing someone to sit down with them and accept changes over and over!
These changes would be great for the image design profession.. making simple makeup jobs a new useful comodity.. ESPECIALLY for entertainers.. These are just a few idea's of mine.. considering ive been told many times that image designer shouldnt get paid for their services because they take no resources to do their things (what a crock!) Ive never heard anything as stupid as what these people say.. They must not understand how long it takes to do it.. when you dont have a partner to help you out every minute of the day.. and extra credits to spend on it.. (it costs alot!)
Anyways.. to sum these ideas up..
Take the current colors available in lipstick and eye-shadow.. assign skill difficulties to these colors more exciting and deep/bright colors.. are the harder ones that are available to more advanced facial customizations and the like.. and the easier colors available between novice image designers and begineer facial customizations.. with only the basic colors available to the image design line in entertainer... Add a new type of makeup,
"Blush", available at intermediate facial customizations and better shades each level up to master facial customizations..
Add in makeup crafting that takes Petrochemicals, Water, and berries to craft these items.. Starting to be available at Novice Image Designer details up top..
These are just a few ideas that would innovate the image designer for the better.. and I AM talking about image designer, not people who took image designer just for the changes because they had nothing better to get.. Image Designers that actually want to take it to the fullest!
I like the idea in the 3rd reply, it'd be different but very nice, it'd give us a reason to price goods without having to contact every other ID just to get rid of "well so and so charges less", AND it would get rid of the people who are doing it because they can.
Some people who actually TRY to make it a business, or have it for the intended reason and be an image designer, are unable to do either simply because one guy who was able to beg and annoy enough people to let him "id on them" until he got master, then he will just run around and give it for free. Sadly, all professions are able to be plagued by this, but I think because ours is so simple and easy to screw other true image designers out of things, it is the one most griefers use. Just a little thought, but anyway, I think if we expanded upon that idea, and added even more types of makeups and hairstyles [highlights too!] then we could take all the current ideas [which are pretty much all extremely good] and mix them in with this new proposed system...then we get to pray to the devs will remember that there is indeed an image designer class, no myth! =)
Exactly my point ![]()
I believe that the people on these forums are starting to think of me as one of those people who just ran around giving it for free to whomever bugs me the most.. however I run my own salon and my own cantina.. I have expenses as well, And would very much love to see this class more business minded.. I wouldnt mind loading up makeup and hair dye and even highlight kits and piercing items into my vendor.. but When people tell me that my prices are obsurd.. etc.. especially my fellow image designers, I dont think that they are at all.. Image Designers arent ment to be a charity based class; or a class that is ment to only help out their friends once they hit master.. they are ment to be a business person (in the art of changing appearance) just as Architects make Houses, and Weaponsmiths make weapons.. Its the same principle.. we might get to it quicker but it definatly does not mean that we should get less reward.. like many people say.. its supply and demand... If they demand service.. they should supply us with the money for the service.. heh.. anyways Ive spent over 100,000 on my skill tree alone due to the lack of people around to train me.. + another 75,000 on my house and expenses.. thats 175,000 right there that I still havent made back.. once I work myself out of debt im sure that my business will slowly begin to grow.. As im sure many of the others out there just felt like practicing an extra thing for a week and powerskilling it up just to get a cheap source of money and just sit in the cantina changing for tips.. but its not that easy! I think that the people should be encouraged to go to salons and pay a REAL image designer for thier services, as our skill isnt just about who is higher and blah blah.. all that junk.. its a real art knowing what to do and where.. and what looks good, if you have no taste you dont deserve to be an image designer.. the same goes with dancers that have bad rythem or musicians that just plain out suck
.. its an art people.. and I think the obviously superior should get rewarded!
I agree I think a bit of crafting in the profession would be fun, I don't like the idea of the first poster. Do you know how hard it is to find one person to practice on, let alone several when you can't get experience from one person any longer?
I wanna open a salon also. But I'm wondering what the point is other then it to be a meeting place away from the big cities. Most of the time when I pop in places people want things done. I don't know how easy it will be to get them to come from other places to get it done.

I absolutely agree with those ideas, crafting makeup items would bring so much more gameplay value to the profession. Also limited colours at low skill is a great idea.
Another idea I had to give Image Design more gameplay value, is to have people get physical scars from fighting battles, that can only be removed by image designers. This would actually give us something people need instead being purely a luxury cosmetic class.
As it is right now, it is far too easy to skill up to master ID, I had never played this game before and I was master ID on my third day, and most of that time was spent doing missions for money since I was the first master on my server (as far as I can tell). The way I have it figured out now I could take a new avatar and skill up to master ID in about 4 hours, if you pick the right race and have a buddy with a few hours to spare.
I got master so fast it almost feels like I cheated.. I do *love* being image designer though ![]()
Since when is crafting fun... *Dies* personally I wouldn't want it like this. I'm much too lazy.
I do think we should have craftables, just not for anything that character can do at creation (or for our extra hair styles). Crafting should be reserved for the stuff we haven't gotten yet, funky hair colors, highlights, going beyond creation limits for things like height and weight, ect.
Wouldn't it be neat if we could craft make up kits to sell to people. A hair color or eye color that would fade in a matter of days for the low level IDs or a week or so for Masters? What about wigs, entertainers could buy a few and change hair styles with their costumes. Of course these wigs would have a fast item decay rate, and once created the style and color could never change, but it's another way to get a recurring client base.
Everything we can do right now as an Image Designer should never require a craftable componet, it cuts down on people being able to try out styles to show their friends and will increase prices pretty drasticly I'd think. (And remember I'm a big fan of setting prices that allow masters to make a comfortable amount of money.) I really don't want to charge my clients for each hair style they'd like to show their gathered friends, I want them to try the mohawk out, get a good laugh and then go to something else. Requiring craftables for this is not a good idea.
However, requireing a craftable kit to turn their hair green IS a good idea. Requiring one to make them larger or smaller than the creation limits IS a good idea. Non zabrak tattoos? Well how about we gain the ability to craft needles and inks. Great Idea. But standard hair colors, standard skin colors, mundane body changes, theseshould stay as is.

ARE YOU INSANE!!!???
I'm sorry. But, when i read the decrease in experience I just went....
well I just WENT!! The Image Designer had to fight to get experience for
themselves during Beta, and now you want it taken away??!! What about about
the person, who simply can't find enough people to practice on?? I managed
to get Image Design I with only two customers. The rest was on myself.
And since the Entertainer professiuon is non-combatant it's assumed, or at least
to me it is, that it's a profession for people who are not in a hurry to Master
it. I'm all the way up to working on Enterating Healing IV, Music and Dance III.
I'm working on Design II, I'm NOT in a hurry to "level". This profession wasn't
designed for "leveling".
Taking away points for designing on yourself, and drastically redusing points
for designing on the same person will CERTAINLY NOT make if GO FASTER.
I apologize for my tone, but I do not want this profession messed up.

What about us wookies who can't image design on ourselves at the beginning levels. Running around and getting people to let me do work to is hard!

Master ID in four hours? Not possible. Why? Because I used a second account to level up my Master ID and while sitting in a cantina with a Master Musician and Master Dancer I getting 80k per 3 hours. That's the max Mind regen you can get and I was pumping up xp as fast as possible, doing an ID change every 5 seconds and accepting on my other PC.
There is no way a player can get Master ID in four hours regardless of race.
