Thread: Art Team: What Image Designer Want :)
The Art Team Director, Ood-Bnar posted on swg discussion a few weeks ago that the art team had some free time on their hands and were wondering what types of social animations we might want added to the game. And so I started a thread called Art Team: What Women Want to get female gamers the opportunity to give the art team some ideas of things other than social animations that would make players happy. Here is a link to the thread.
I received a pm from Ood-Bnar asking if I'd be willing to compile the good ideas together as he was having a hard time finding the time to do it. Note he posted on the thread that he was already working hard on many of the ideas, and would give us feedback on what could and could not be done.
Anyway, I had already planned to offer so IPM'd him back that yes I wouldbe happy to do it,and put it together this past weekend. I have yet to hear from him about where to send it but hopefully I won't end up in the same boat as the correspondents
Anyway I wanted to show you all what I pulled together that was ID-related and hear feedback. It might have to be over a few posts as it was pretty long ![]()
Sorry about the typo in the title *blushes* Note I also added suggestions for when things would be granted (if put in the game). Please let me know what you think about those too.
- User Interface – Issues: Difficult to find good lighting to view customer; Person’s head wiggles all over while you try to customize face; Hard to keep track of what a customer has seen in the past using slider bars; difficult to find graphical entities such as tattoo patterns and eyebrows. Proposed solutions: Give ID’s the character creation GUI in a window. Shade out boxes the ID’er does not yet have. Assign visible numbers to each tick of sliders that represent measurements, such as nose length, weight, and eye shape. Add more little pictures like those provided for hairstyles…for tattoo patterns, eyebrow shapes, etc. Add a box to the character window (ctrl-j) that has current settings written down (nose length #15 of 30, hairstyle #22 of 40, etc).
- Hair color bug – Not sure if this is an art team thing; When hair color is changed, only the customer sees the change until they relog; When hair/hornstyle is changed, everyone but the customer sees the hair/horns default to brown (orange for rodians) until they relog.
- Body Tattoos – Extremely requested by customers; Proposed locations: Ankles, wrists, hands, calf, lower back, upper back, upper arm, lower arm, tummy, chest. Types: Swirls & spikes, nature objects (corellian butterfly, flower, etc), rebel/imperial insignia. When granted: Add to Markings skill tree in ID, Markings I = ankle, Markings IV = upper arms
- More Hair Colors – Most frequent request by customers; Pure white, pure black, more natural colors (reds, browns, blondes), unnatural colors (pink, red, blue, purple, green, etc): available to master ID’s and requiring crafted dyes with rare components, temporary duration if possible.
- Highlights in hair – Streaks or shading of color over the main color
- Full head of hair for Zabrak Females – ID-only styles are not being requested due to the receding hairline look, zabrak females would like a full head of hair with horns poking out, maybe some of the human hairstyles as well; Zabrak female with pigtails screenshot on swg site
- Muscles/height slightly beyond char creation – Frequent request by customers; Would flesh out the Body skill tree in ID; Provided it does not cause graphical issues with clothing.
- Scars - (Exotic IV) Another frequent request by customers; Combat types want facial scars, blue dead-eye look
- Piercing – Top ID wish list item, we would like to have a pierce ability (maybe ID IV) to compliment new tailoring jewelry schematics (players must get ears or bellybutton pierced before jewelry can be equipped)
- Nail polish – (Novice Entertainer) – fingernails and toenails
- Extended makeup palette – More shades of red, pink, peach are especially requested
- Blush, Eye liner – (Novice Entertainer) Subtle shading of color please if implemented
- Bindis – (Exotic IV); This website has many photos and examples in an easy to see format: www.diamondbindi.com (see cat eye, belly, bellybutton, arm); Maybe make bindis craftable; This website has photos of celebrities with bindis on their foreheads, as well as many henna tattoos: http://www.naturalexpressions.org/mehndipic.html
- Eyelashes
- Ability to dye hair accessories – barettes, beads, and ponytail holders on existing styles
- More options for eyebrows (natural looking)
- Slider for hips and buttocks – For the more curvaceous lady; Body I?
- More hairstyles – Females - Princess Leia and Queen Amidala styles from the movies; 38th hairstyle for female human but without the hair hanging in the face; Very long hair; More long hairstyles; Long mid-back ponytail; More with accessories (beads, barettes, ribbons); More braided styles; Short & curly; Slicked back; Bob; Shoulder-length styles are the most requested as well as messy hair. Males – Anime’ish spiky hairstyles; Long dreadlocks; More long/medium hairstyles; Spiky and messy styles.
- Body freckles – Chest, shoulders
- Wookiee hairstyles - Wookiees ask for their fur to be braided and dreadlocks, they say there are art team sketches of these somewhere; Wookiee females in particular would like hair to be recognizable as females – braids, pigtails, etc.
- Small bust for Mon Cals – While they could never increase the size of their torso, before the patch that defaulted all Mon Cal’s looks they had a little bust, now they are flat chested like Trandos and Wookiees
- Ability to ID NPC vendors – Maybe if Merchant has Hiring III? People create and destroy dozens of vendors trying to get a certain look (database issue)
- Ability to ID pets – Fur/skin dyeing has been suggested
- More lekku styles – Tightly twisted together to the back, sticking up to the sides like pigtails, pulled up to lay on the head, meeting in the front/back with tips overlaying
- Ability to make lekku skinnier (ID IV?)
- More Trando ridges – More dramatic spikes, extending down the spine
- Sex/Race change – (Master ID) This comes up a lot (maybe only once per char lifetime?) People change their minds but don’t want to recreate
- Craftable, tradeable lipsticks & eyeshadows – (Novice ID) To sell on bazaar/vendors. This idea has come up often and would be SO fun!
Some of these have been controversial on ID boards, such as sex/race change and having craftable ID components...Anyway please let me know what you all think. Note these are not all my personal wish list items, but what I compiled out of the monstrous 13 page thread that I felt would be useful to an art team with time on their hands and beneficial to our profession and players.
Yes I'm posting again
The ability to craft little wigs to put on the bazaar came up too, but I didn't include it in my rough draft as it has been an unpopular idea on the ID boards in the past. What do you all think? How would that impact the services of those ID'ers that don't have artisan ability?
What about the idea of having dyes be craftable? Many players are concerned with having too many people run around with dyed hair as it would ruin immersion. In real life, a very small percentage of the popularion has unnusually colored hair. A proposed solution that has come up often is to have dye components be rare or hard to get in some way. Musicians craft instruments, should wecraft dyes and makeup ![]()
I like all the suggestions you put up above, with only small reservations. I still am unconvinced about having craftable items, even if it's just lipstick or eyeshadow. If it's meant as another way to make money, I dislike it because it undermines the personal touch that IDs give. I'm willing to be it'd only decrease incoming money. If it's a way to ensure customer return (decay based dyes and lipsticks), I don't think it's necessary. People will always want to have a change of pace, whether it's a change of hairstyle or a tweaking here and there. That's all we need to get customer return. I personally feel any artificial means of ensuring this is not needed. However, I won't rail and complain if crafted items go in, either =)
I also see the more wildly coloured hair as a non issue. I don't think everyone will want to have it, and it doesn't ruin immersion for me. If it exists in the 21st century, I'm sure it exists in the Star Wars timeline.
So I for one am behind all the changes listed above (except for crafting related items). The only thing I'd add is just more of everything. More frill styles, more tattoo styles, hairstyles, wookie patterns, etc. That shouldn't be too painful to implement and would add a great deal of business.
Way to go! =D. I'll just hope that some of these changes make it to the next big patch.
Tiaga, I've included many items related to men because many men posted on the thread. For example, the wish list includesclothing for male dancers andmotion captured moves of men and women dancing together. Please forward any ideas to [email protected]asap
I'm polishing it up today and tomorrow.
List looks real good Kwee![]()
Thank you so much for your efforts, cant wait to see what gets implemented.

well, i think you hit everything on my checklist. oops, just thought of something more.
more zabrak tattoo styles and some tattoo options for non-zabrak. i'd reserve the most tattoo options for zabrak, and be able to do the more generic kind of tattooing on humans, twi'lek, etc; and branding on species like wookie, bothans, transdoshan etc. say, a single tribal-like tattoo in some area, while say zabrak would be able to get full-body coverage of a particular pattern.
i am very glad you've been able to get the attention of some devs for us IDers. ^_^ keep it up ^_^
I guess I should have read that huge thread instead of doing work. ![]()
Anyway, I sent you a list with some of my own thoughts along with some input from other people.

And thank you for your efforts in keeping the thread on the front page of swg discussion
About the makeup... I may be alone in this, but I am RARELY ever asked for makeup changes from customers. However, I'm thinking peoplewould get a kick out of buying little lipsticks and eyeshadows on the bazaar. The benefit to Image Designers would be having dozens of cute little advertisements.
Example:
Item names: "Hotpoker Red Lipstick by Kwee" "Smoky Gray Eyeshadow by Kwee"
