DEVs If you can tell us how many hour other professions take it would help us out a lot. Or let us know if you already have a plan and it just has not made it to TC yet

Assumeing the 2min. time stays and you get a flat rate for changes, how many IDs show it take per box?

to start I'll use a Bench Mark of 10:

0 master ID

10 - 10 - 10 - 10

10 - 10 - 10 - 10

10 - 10 - 10 - 10

10 - 10 - 10 - 10

10 Novice ID

10

10

10

10

--------------------------

That equals: 210 IDs

Mininum 420mins or 7 hours

20mins per box

Honestly I'm reserving judgment on how the XP system works since it's not working properly right now - everything is getting 25 xp per 2 minutes. When it's functioning properly, I'll be trying to find out:

  • still 25% exp on self?

  • Does xp depend on what you change or don't change?

  • Does xp depend on level?

Personally I think the timer as implemented is detrimental to the ID who just needs a "quick touch up" (i.e. lip color, eye color, etc) and is much more useful for the full makeover (Indeed when I was playing around with the interface the first 2 times, I barely noticed the time tick by, but when I wanted to do a lip color change, it was torture). Ideally the 2 minute timer should run after accept is hit, sort of like wound treatment, and you can't give another offer for 2 minutes (but you can start work on the next client). That way the "quick change" customer will not be left waiting, but the 2 minutes (or whatever arbitrary time frame) will still cap the experience gain. I can just imagine the irate customer telling me "I just wanted a lip color change, how long will this frickin take?"

At first I was not a fan of the 2 minutes timer, But after thinking about I Like IT!

It gives/forces you and the customerto wait, thus giving time to do a proper ID, not just a quicky. Also it gives you time to socialize!!!! which to offten does not happen. So I Think I'm going to be a big fan of it, but it's to soon to tell for sure.

I think something around 7 hours is actually very reasonable if you think about what is involved - you have to have a victim sit there and click at 2 minute intervals. It's mind-numbingly boring. If it's 7 hours of solid ID work, then a non-grinder should be able to complete the profession in roughly a month. See, if you're thinking of the casual player, you have to allow for "slop time" - extra time on each client, finding new clients, etc. If you are "available for ID" and "do work on friends" every night for a month, you should be able to master, even if that eventually boils down to 7 hours. The whole purpose of this is to make casual play viable, not more difficult.

I like it too, I just pick 10 as a Bench Mark to start, but I think 7-hours would be nice. I'm not sure how many XP an stat mig should give, sense I have not done one yet So for now I'll just adjust my chart to make it easyer/harder at different levels.

0 master ID

12 - 12 - 12 - 12

11 - 11 - 11 - 11

Also: casual players will not be able to advance without grinding UNLESS something useful is in the lower boxes of ID (so that they don't have to grind but will be in demand). I hope that at least the stat migration is available at novice ID, so that the novice ID's will be useful, and able to gain xp, while the master ID's will not be swamped with requests for stat migration.

My biggest concern regarding XP gain is still that novices have some useful role to fill. Without it, they won't get clients or XP and will be forced to grind, but won't be able to under the new system. I have always argued, and will continue to argue, that low-level IDs need more functional content before we can change XP gain on them. It's totally unfair to ask someone who only has a couple colors and styles to wait for enough casual clients—when let's be honest, people don't want less than fourth-tier IDs, if not masters—to get the XP they need to master. We're punishing the casual players to spite the hologrinders if we think otherwise.

Random thought: can we get a definitive list of what abilities are available where under the new system? That would greatly help in determining if novices have a fighting chance to master, but I have a feeling it's top-heavy and those that are currently MIDs are going to be the only MIDs we see for a looong time.

I just emailed queries about the exp system, how it's supposed to be working. Will go ahead and ask about who gets what where too

Great! I just hope they give us the hard facts, I know they normally leave to the players to figure out but with the TC time restraint we have we need the fact ASP.

Personal preferences

  1. Constant timer. Constant xp. Really it doesn't matter whether you're doing something physical or what. Cosmetic changes can turn into the physical tweaks.

  2. After the minimum, longer time = more xp, up to a cap (think like scout xp). This makes sure that a casual ID isn't penalized for spending extra time on a client, but will not affect the progression of a pure grinder.

/agreed

This was my biggest concern from some of my other posts about this subject, which I never articulated.

One solution is to remove the self-ID penalty -- that way novices don't need to find people who actually WANT the basic hair-dos at character creation.

Don't forget thathologrinding will end in less than 2 months, sotry to avoid Hologrind Defense as any justification for xp gain changes.

Well I am a casual player and it took me since launch until about a month ago to master my first profession which is you guessed it Image Designer I mostly spent a lot of time jsut socializing with random people I met in the desert, hills, forest moons of Endor, dark places of dantooine and had fun chatting in tells and guild and group chat with friends of mine. I also did a lot of roleplaying ,so as a casual player it took me oh... 6 months or more to master my first profession. I have been trying for teras kasi since day one too and I just got novice TKA shortly before master ID still havent got any of my first boxes in the TKA tree yet....if that helps. As far as ID xp goes it took me awhile to master ID mostly because I didnt know about spices, practicing on others, and the ice cream and brandy wasnt in yet...I think. I found out about halfway through ID about practicing on others and spent a lot of time in the cantina with my buddy paaweh who buffed my mind non-stop and another band member kept accepting for me...this pushed me close to the mastering stage and shortly after I joined my new guild our leader told me about the ice cream and brandy and let me practice on him it took me about 20 minutes to get that last box and my master ID title.

The main thing I see with this new xp system is the timer sucks if you are a master ID. I have been planning on making macros to easily change my appearance into an entire new personality at the blink of an eye and with this timer thing that would be impossible. I am my biggest customer of my image design skills...I am literally a chameleon on my server.
