Thread: Making an ID is now painfully slow, isn't it?

How many times can you wait 2 minutes before you think "Sod this - I'll go do something more interesting instead."?

I've been an ID before, with another character. My current character is doing the holo-grind, and anticipating drastic changes with ID advancement, I ground ID Sunday and Monday in preparation for this patch. I'm glad I did. Using brandy and my brother's account, it only took me a few hours to master. Now, it's gonna be hell. With all the supplies on hand, crafting professions can be ground in about six hours. CH can be quick at the Geo cave, as can many of the combat professions. Ranger can be ground by flying around Dath with scent masked, and by grinding camps, and by hucking traps at big beasties. It's another one of the day-long professions. ID's gonna be pretty time consuming from here on out.
From the perspective of a Master ID, the timer sucks from a business standpoint. Somebody comes in and wants just their hair color changed, you have to wait a full minute. It's boring. I can see applying a time change to stat migration, but for the customer -- not for the ID. I see no reason why the ID should be forced to sit there and wait for the customer's stats to migrate. It's not fun.

Yeah I almost finished mastering last night, but figured I could finish last few boxes today maybe. Looks like 36hrs of straight grinding for me. That's pathetic. I don't see ANY players becoming ID after this. It's too unreasonable. They could make ID the ultimate pvp/pve template and people still wouldn't do it.
Anyone notice they removed the /imagedesignSetValue commands? WHY!? Bad enough if you wanted to grind you had to have 2 people, while one could macro the other had to click but now both have to click click click click... yet dancers/musicians can macro everything!?
With NO new IDs in the future lvling up and 99% of current ones just there for jedi grinding and will drop in a day or two, that leaves a hand full of people that are ONLY ones able to migrate stats. Charging 100k is nothin, wait til they charge 1M!! And in a supply/demand economy... it'll be fair. Think how rare IDs will be. Could search for weeks and never find someone w/ a competing price.
And fixes for this? Yes exp is messed up, I'm sure devs know it but how many months til it's changed? A hotfix in a couple weeks maybe? It's not just fixing a broken part of a profession, it's fixing a profession so that it's at least possible to lvl. It'd be like combat professions suddenly having inability to wield anything but a cdef. And not a crafted cdef, those crappy looted ones! Might make marksman slow, but would make Elites rather impossible.
See, I thought this minipublish was aimed at helping to improve ID, but it ONLY improves it for those that are Masters. No one else. It dramatically hurts anyone else. The novices and those that aren't ID at all, like their customers. Ruining for the ID and the customer... for YOUR customer SOE, pourly implemented. Graphics are nice, but how's the art department taking it that the publish they put so much into is seen as such a BAD thing!? I feel for them. I'd hope all my hard work would be well recieved, not seen as the end of a profession. Fix it. That's all it'd take. Take a day, fix it. =)
Think that's a long enough rant. =)
Whining about additional time it takes to master... why?
It will take more than 125 hours to master it. To me that's not whining, that's a serious complaint.
Not everyone wants to master it just as a holo grind (most of us have this one done already). Some people want to be Image Designers.

I was like you walcyradiant, I thought BE would be terrible. It was not and actually one of my favorite professions I've done, one I will definitely revisit once the grind is finished ( just carbineer, pistol and BH to go). Sadly, if ID is not changed, I will never go back there again.
Where do people get this 60 hours number? My math makes Master Image Designer (from novice entertainer to Maser Image Designer) about 125 hours.
an average over the course of the entire grind of 150 xp a combine. takes 441,000 ID xp to master from novice entertainer. this gives roughly 2940 combines give or take a few depending on the route you take to master. so round up to 3000 to make the math easier. now divid the 3000 by 60 minutes to get the hours you are left with 50. figure in the time it takes to click all the menus all the fumbling finding willing guinea pigs and you end up with 60 hours total. and only if you stick to the ID tents double everything if your not in one.
that 60 will in fact be the base minimum of EVERYTHING goes well and no breaks are taken no sleep no downtime for anything including takeing potty breaks. if you figure all that in its on the order of 3-4 weeks even for a powergamer. a casual gamer who spends only a hour or two of actual game gameplay and only a fraction of that grinding a skill it will take close to a realtime year to master.
an example. i am not by any stretch a powergamer but i can do any skill other than jedi and merchant in 7 days or less. there are a LOT of people in fact the vast majority that take months to master. the real powergamers can master professions in a day or less.
