Image Designer Archive
Thread: A constructive look at the new publish
- New colors: awesome. Perfect. No changes needed. (Well, okay, if you really want to we wouldn't complain about having more colors)
- UI: Various bug fixes (see bug thread). Addition of numbers to slider readouts. Ability to minimize via ALT key. Allow hotkeys to work while UI is up. In general, very nearly perfect. Love it.
- Stat migration: leave current system in place, possibly making it take twice as long as it currently does. Base time for ID stat migration on number of points migrated. (A "full" reallocation of every point would take 10 minutes, scale lesser changes on a percentage of "full".) Leave this as the only service requiring IDs to maintain group/interaction with the client until it completes, much like dancer/musician buffs. It has already been clearly presented that there is a large value to fast stat migration when coupled with doctor (and musician) enhancements. There is no need to force players to seek out image designers, they'll do so already to make the most of their combat capabilities.
- Holo-emotes: my best suggestion for these it to not have them display for players with particle effects detail set to minimum, or provide an alternate toggle to disable the display of holo-emotes.
- Timers on changes: remove pre-change timers. Add post-change medic-style timers with waits based on changes made and a modifier based on ID level. For instance: a lipstick change would take 15 seconds, a weight change 1 minute. Both together would take 1:15. Scale as necessary so that a full makeover would delay an Image Designer no longer than 10 minutes between sessions.
- Experience gain: Mastering Image Design should take no longer than mastering any other elite profession. It is possible to master most elite professions from basic novice in about 15-16 hours. ID should be no different. XP should be cumulative per change in the same way that timers would be (for the sake of illustration, 50XP per lipstick, 100XP per weight, both in the same session would grant 150XP). Lessen the penalties for self-ID (75% of norm instead of current 25%/proposed 50%)
- Outstanding bugs: Not enough mind (all systems seem to require a 150-170 HAM pad to use, under the new system using brandy/canapes/muon to circumvent this bug becomes severely cost prohibitive due to a lack of in-a-row changes, we would end up using a 1Kcr dose of brandy for each change, rather than a 1Kcr dose taking us through 4-5 sessions.) Hair color display. Outstanding offer. Probably others I can't think of offhand.
I follow Syzygy's lead
- New colors: are Great for the species that got them, a lot species (like trandoshans)just got tons of more shades of their current colors (which is very nice), but I know how many request for blue skin/red eyes I have gotten and know I will get tons more and others that I will not be able to do.
- UI: Besides its bugs, for 2+mins the IDer can't see what is going on around him. The new UI fills over half the screen, which would not be so bad if you could turn your view or minimize the window, you can't even pop-up ant other windows.
- Stat migration: leave current system in place, Replace the ID machines with and hot tub or steam room (You could try using particle effects to make an steam room verrrry cool and Star Warsy ) and plan to have an IDer placeable version in the future that works faster.
- Holo-emotes: I need to see them before make a suggestion
- Timers on changes: 2 mins for all is good for me, IF there will be a way minimize the window and use other windows
- Experience gain: novice to master should take 7 - 10 hours and Lessen the penalties for self-ID to no more then 80%, If Novice IDer is waiting in the tent for a customer to come along way should he be penalties for self IDing during the wait. (that is IF it is still non-AFK able)
- Outstanding bugs: The Devs know what to do with bugs

- New colors: I love all the new colors! Just about the only thing I wouldchange is maybe some fun colors for humans, since they have a large palette of almost identical colors. Blue would be especially nice so that some people can pretend to be Chiss.
- UI: I love the new interface too! It has some minor problems and bugs, but this is so much better than what we had before! It is even better than the character creation interface! The only things I would change is that it should be resizable, and it is very hard to click in just the right color square since they are so tiny.
- Stat migration: I have a problem with this. I asked non-IDs in my guild about this and most people said this should only be worth a few thousand credits since it doesn't use resources. My time is worth a lot more than that. We are not a very highly respected profession in the game and you can't expect that suddenly attitudes will change and our time will be worth a lot overnight. Anyway, fast stat migration for us and slow if people do it themselves would probably allow us to have a service we can use for awhile to become a little more respected. Requiring our services causes more resentment than respect, though.
- Holo-emotes: I want to see these so I can comment!
- Timers on changes: These are much too long for quick changes! This game really does not need more time sinks. People want to play, not wait. If you care for the casual player, let them use their little bit of time on the game actually doing something fun!
- Experience gain: It is much too slow, but I expect it to be adjusted.
- Outstanding bugs: Well, the haircolor bug is still out there. So are the slider bugs. We need to squish these!
Thank you, Syzygy, for this very constructive post. I more or less agree with this overview.

Hah. You know you can't leave—especially after you actually got me to post something constructive. You can't leave any more than I can, no matter how upset you are…you just express it differently than I do. So, lurk if you must…but don't even think about trying to leave our usually-happy little family.
New colors: Finally!! Would just like to see tats added for species that have little option in colors.
UI: It looks incredible, though the color boxes are too small. No more searching for the right lighting ![]()
Stat migration: I agree with one of the above posters. The migration sould still be able to be done by anyone just take twice as long.
Holo-emotes: Ridiculous, they last seconds and look nothing like SW...whats the point?
Timers on changes: Timers are great unless you are master. Masters should not have a timer. Id imagine they are putting the timer in place to slow down the grind of ID, if thats so Masters are being penalized.I dont know how many times ive gotten the LD bug "already has an image design offer" Adding a timer seems it will make it happen more often.
Experience gain: Give more xp for self changes, there is no other profession that requires another persons consent to get decent xp. And if there is a timer I dont think the exp needs to be changed honestly.

New colors: I could not be more thrilled about this. It's perfect, thank you SO much devs! We REALLY needed this!
UI: This looks fantastic, although admittedly I haven't been able to test it. But I love it that we have the before and after windows, and we can do multiple changes at once. If we can fix a lot of the bugs (which Kwee says is being worked on) it will be one of the best things to happen to our profession.
Stat migration: Syzygy has this right on the nose. I am aware the the developers want us to have one critical game function... but, did it ever occur to them that most of us REALLY just want to make people look pretty? And with this new patch, we're going to have a huge flood of customers already. Now we're going to have to deal with people wanting to come to us for stat migration as well. This is not something we were prepared for and this needs to be changed. It would be PERFECT if, as stated previously, anyone could still migrate their own stats at the old snail's pace, but if they need an instant change, they can come to us. That would be incredible. It would contribute to our businesses, give us a critical game function without making people absolutely HAVE to rely on us for something they MUST do.
Holo-emotes: Devs... come on, honestly. What were you thinking here? I'd LOVE to really know. Because these holo emotes are the dumbest things I've ever seen. No offense... seriously. And admittedly, I've not seen all of them, maybe some of them are very cool. But the pictures of the ones I've seen are just absolutely ludicrous. I would SO much rather you have not included anything along this line in our patch, and instead started working on tattoos, or new hairstyles... something that not only the ID's want, but our customers want. Right now, the general reaction ALL across the boards is "what the hell?" And I can't say that I blame them. That was my reaction too.
Timers on changes: I am a master image designer. I do not want to force my customers to wait FIVE minutes before their height changes... or two minutes for a lipstick change... there is literally ZERO reason for master ID's to have this wait. None. It's an insult to us. If you're going to insist on this incredibly long delay for novices, then you need to reward masters for their persistence in grinding the profession out. Please take the wait away for masters... and overall, the wait is JUST too long. I can see maybe 30 seconds... but with the changes you're planning right now, it's going to take a person an insanely long time just to gain ONE TREE. You've gone to the opposite end of the spectrum here, and we're looking for a happy medium.
Experience gain: You should have EITHER relative experience gain, OR a timer. Not both. You went overboard on the dancers' buff changes, and it made a LOT of us unhappy. PLEASE don't do this to us, too.
I have to have just a moment to try and express myself here. I've been an image designer for something like 10 months now... longer than ANYONE else on my server. I've never NOT been an image designer on one of my characters... sometimes I had it on both. This is the profession that I love best out of all of them. Some people in this game LOVE being a bounty hunter... some people LOVE being a tailor. We here LOVE being an image designer. Our primary goal is, has been, and always will be making people beautiful. Those of us who post here are dedicated, and we're right beside Kwee in going to bat for it. We so often feel ignored by the developers... not just the ID's, but ALL professions. But please, PLEASE heed this: Who knows better how this profession works than the people who've played it for nearly a year? Please listen to us. We are not stupid, and we know what will work for us. I know I have been feeling very, very helpless since news of this patch came out... I never thought the nerf bat would swing at us, and that's how many of us feel. Aside from that, we are unhappy with the lack of communication, and we sincerely hope you will all learn from this mistake and be more up-front with us in the future as to what is to come.
I hope you listen to us. We can't force you to... but we KNOW this profession inside and out. We know what our customers want (who make up the other 98.5% of the game), and we know what we would like to see. You know the technical side, yes... but just because something is POSSIBLE for our profession, does not mean it should be implemented.
This pink is starting to hurt my eyes, so I'm going to stop typing now.

I agree wholeheartedly. I would like to emphasize that I think the timers are a horrible idea. I would much prefer hologrinders mastering in 2 hours rather than penalize a long standing master with these timers.

My only real question:
1. New Colors: Pink and lavendar Wookiees? Why?
There are none. The wookiee palette is made of earth tones, so there are browns, ashy greys and moss greens, but no pink or lavendar. Sorry wookiees.
