I think this would be a good idea, especially now that two new races has been introduced with jtl. instead of lvling a whole new char, you could just change race and get the best possible bonuses for you profession.
I would certanly like to see this as an option for an image designer , lol or maybe bio engineer? I would for one like to try to play as a zabrak (i'm currently human) , but I refuse to lvl a whole new char cause i'm already half way to jedi.. 3/6 fs trees.. so I dont want to delete my char and make a brand new one, but i'd sure like to get the option to change the race.
I'm sure a lot of crafter would like to change their race to ithorian as well to get the shipwright bonuses

I think it should be possible... but not permenent.
I think it would be odd to see the number one pvp on your server turn into a fat female mon cal (which is just wrong.. specially with /hot self.. lol).
I think it would be better to see the ability to "disguies" your character for a brief time.

Lucas Arts stated months ago that gender and race cannot be/nor ever will be changeable by Image Designers.

Clearly, they have never heard of GRS ... even today, something can be done.

It's not only about the possibility you know, every species (sometimes gender of characteras well)represents a differentplaystyle. Equipment restrictionsand species skill mods could be neglected if such a thing would ever get accepted...Example: a wookiee would liketo become aTeräs Käsi Master, changes into a trandoshan for the +15 to unarmed damage, grinds until Power Techniques IV and would then give up his scales to go back to his Wookiee roots...sorry but that would SERIOUSLY break immersion and gameplay.
I understand it did sound like a great idea, but please think about the consequences...

Lucas arts has denied Gender and Sex switching and so we will never see it in game. They simply don't want to see it in here and Lucas Arts are those folks, that have the final saying when it comes to any content in the game. SOE has very strict guidelines there same as everyone who works with a Lucas Arts (especially a Star Wars) license.

Plus I'd hate to see a "species of the month" thing along with the "template of the month" thing.

Not to make a suggestion on something that won't ever happen, but to avoid people taking too much advantage of this, I could see it being implemented (if it were to ever be implemented, which it won't) as a "pay $30 to switch your sex/species" type thing, similar to character transfer.
That would hold off too much species of the month action and make it not all that worth the trouble to switch at whim for the species advantages.

I think its a great idea.
Even do it as a "chargeable service" and a "one time" option more so now that SOE made alot of us use our primary toon to become jedi.
I wanted my Jedi to be a Zabrak, but started my toon as a human thinking ill make a zabrak when i finally unlock.
Now that isnt an option.
This should be a service that the devs allow to happen one time only and be a chargeable service to restrict people doing it over and over again.
If they can transfer your toon to another server, surely they can allow you to do a one time species/sex change.
I for one would be rapted.
I would love to change my jedi to a zabrak (for the defence bonuses) and change my zabrak alt to a Mon Calamari (for the crafting bonuses)

If you absolutely HAVE to be a wookiee (for example), start a new character.
This game is already incredibly flexible. You can become an expert swordsman, then *poof* have no sword skill and start medical school. This is a good thing in some regards, but it puts a lot of people in the position of, "Well, I picked up this profession on a whim, knew nothing about it, and got tired of it as soon as I realized that it is too tough for me."
boo hoo
I stand firmly behind the concept of foresight. Think about what playstyle you like. Do some research on what species give bonuses for that (unless you intentionally want to go against the norm). Make a character and stick with that character.
I am a bit of a hipocrit, I have made a few bad choices along the way (e.g., I triedchef because I like to cook in real life and thought it might be remotely similar), but I spent time reading up on the professions and races before making this character.

I have made probably 8-10 characters trying different things before I found the two that I like that are created well. It is not hard to start over with a new character! In many way, it can be loads of fun to start again from the bottom. Haven't we all thought at some point, "If I could go back to high school (or college) and do it all over again knowing what I know now..."? This game allows us that.
Someone who cries, "I want to be perfect in PvP with my wook, but I can't wear enough armor -- the devs should either give me more armor or let me change my race" needs to spend more time thinking things through and must come to terms with the fact that the world does not revolve around him or her.
Ok, back to work before I get in trouble... hehe

Lucas no no'd it so all you can do is delete your character and make a new one.
I did the same.. I wanted a human Jedi and revert my main toon to an entertainer once unlocked... sigh...
They should let this service be done on a server move.... then it'd cost you twice to reassign your characters sex and name. a money grab but not without disadvantages... you get cleaned of all badgesfaction, and items on server moves.
