Thread: Official Stance on Part Switching
I'd love to have some official word from the devs about the no mind exploit as well. This is another case where it is CLEARLY an exploit, and I know Rilawyn has discussed it with the devs, but I wish they'd post something here letting us know their official verdict on these two things.
me: stealing a pen is illegal
client: really? where does it say that?
me: aww hell, I don't know - maybe the California Penal Code? But I know it's there.
client: bah where? The penal code says you can't take things that don't belong to you, but it doesn't actually say "pens". Well "taking" pens isn't a big deal - you know - it's just a pen, I mean it's not hurting anyone...
me: well it doesn't really matter because it's against the law! I doubt the police that show up to arrest you will want to go into a philosophical conversation about the validity of the law.
client: I don't believe you that it's illegal, who said that? I want to see Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on the news tonight, telling me that taking someone else's pen is illegal, or I'll just continue to do it, secure in my belief that ignorance of the law is a valid defense.
me: actually, mistake of law is never a valid defense to a crime. Good luck with that one.

Too right.
I'd use the twinkee defense.
Anyway, about whether or not it's an exploit: given that the GUI, the primary intended UI, doesn't allow for these changes there are only two options:
- The GUI is bugged.
- This is an exploit.
Couple the above with the fact that this mismatch allows you to bestow hairstyles you do not qualify for and I would think it's quite obvious that it's an exploit, despite what the devs have or have not said. I have yet to receive a request for a cross-species style, but I expect to any day now—this exploit seems to be a lot more common on Kettenmoor than it is on Gorath (I only recall seeing it used once on Gorath, I see it on a daily basis on Kettenmoor.) Should I get such a request I will politely tell the inquiree that it is an exploit, and I will not bea party to it. Should they persist, /addignore. Problem solved. I, for one, will not debate this issue.
When the devs prevented the use of text commands to make people taller or shorter than allowed in char creation they called it an "exploit". FishWan and myself played around with the text commands and found we had access to skills we did not qualify for, and to cross species attributes, and contacted Rilawyn about it who said she would forward the info to Q-3PO. Soon after thatthe patch notes listedan ID "exploit" fix related to text commands. At that point we thought text commands would no longer be able to be used for cross-species ID'ing but it was not so...Since thenthe devs havediscussed theissue withRilawyn, so they muststill consider it an exploit in need of fixing. The argument is not whether or not the devs consider it an exploit but whether or not you it is ok toexploit loopholes and bugsin games, particularly known ones that negatively impact honest players.
The debate with that customer is moot.
It may not oficially have been said and the "spirit" of the game may mean nothing to them.
But I have yet to see a horse with a squid's head.
It is impossible for the Equine to suddenly sprout tentacles with suction cups.
Sure this is a fantasy world. BUT. Even a plastic surgeon can only do so much.
I am a proud Twi'lek and my Lekku are a part of me. They are an extention of my brain and very sensitive. They are a highly sophisticated appendage capable of being manipulated and used in a language. They are an extention of my brain. As such, a Rodian is incapable of having them. They can take some panty hose, fill it with spaghetti and stick that to their head though. The neural enhancements needed for any non Twi'lek species to be able to have Lekku, not to mention the whole extra brain matter problem, is just ridiculous. Not only would it be dangerous, it would be painful.
For a Twi'lek to 'trade' their Lekku for a pair of horns... hmm... Remember the whole brain thing? That would leave you with one retarded Twi'lek. (Geeze, as it is these guys are only running off of one Lekku. Now they don't want even that?!) This is REMOVAL of a highly sensitive... BRAIN. You try and survive that.
I could go on. But either way, Exploit is Exploit and can get you banned ![]()
Hehe. Best argument I've heard yet

I know your all going to hate me on this but Ive changed my opinion of it.....yes some of this crap is outragous and you shouldnt be able to do anything above your skill level. But I could care less if a twik has hair.....its their own fault for starting a twik (why start one if you dont want lekku) The bug doesnt really hurt anyone so Im not really worried. Anyone can figure it out but it takes a real IDer to use it correctly anyways. People come to me for help because they cant decide on stuff for themselves. If if they have the skill. Ive even had a master id ask for help before. So my bottom line is..when SOE says its an exploit that is hurting the community and destroying the fun of the game then Ill whine and complain and fight people about it. Until that time Ill just enjoy the game how ever it goes.
p.s. - I for one have not lost ANY business over this "exploit"
Exploit - to use someone or something unfairly for your own advantage....unfair? to who?

The devs do consider it an exploit, which is why they have tried to fix it twice already, and have been working with Rilawyn to permanently squash it. The way in which cross-species styling is unfair or harmful to others?
- It ruins the immersiveness of the game. This is not just limited to hardcore fans or roleplayers, many players enjoy the game less when seeing an exploit being carried out in any manner, and a visual exploit is right in your face.
- Honest Image Designers who are following the rules (and I'm sure many of themhave been tempted to play around with the text commands like everyone else) are losing business. When a player starts craving a change, many of them no longer come for new ridges or frills or a new lekku position, they go see an Image Designer using the exploit. I don't know about the rest of you but I get at least one tell an hour asking me to exploit.
- ALL Image Designers lose. Even non Image Designers can use the exploit. I thought this had been fixed but I'm told it's still possible
Our entire profession can be done by anyone, we're in a worse state of affairs than Merchants. At least people have to get the Merchant skill boxes before surrendering them and keeping the skillsforever. - It propogates the use of exploits and breaking of rules in other areas of the game. It's the a white lie isn't really a lie argument. And I don't buy it.
Unfortunately others have... I didn't begin losing business until very recently. Maybe the last two or three weeks. I'm told there are master ID's on Starsider charging ludicrious amounts of money to give interspecies hairstyles, hair colors, and skin colors.

It going to happen..no use whining over it......im sick of complaining ot people who ask for hair on twiks, etc. Let them have their crap..if it gets to the point its deemed "illlegal and were all going to hell for doing it", then its a problem. Im just sick of all the ID drama lately and I just want to have fun...I dont play SWG as a career or anything.
I still dont even charge for ID, i work off tips and I have no complaints.
