First, a few sayings for you.

A watched clock never moves.

and

Few things in life are quick, easyand still worthwhile.

There are probably less MIDs then Jedis.

The timer makes our profession less of a joke.

If you actually do the profession, not just grind it out for Jedi, its lots of fun.

I went to the Coronet salon for about 20 minutes or so, and had three customers come in.

First guy wanted his eye color changed and a new hairdo, I didnt even notice the timer while we went thru hairstyles and colors for his hair and eyes.

At the end, I got 300 xp and 5,000 credits!

Not bad for a 2000 ent and 5 minutes.

Next customer, same as above.

300 xp, 5,000 more credits.

Last customer, she comes in and I greet her, asking if she wants her eye color changed and her horns done (she was a zabrak)

She says she was looking for a bit more, but I can do horns and eye color anyways if I wanted.

I gladly accepted and we spent like 5 minutes going thru horn styles and doing her eyes, and then viola, another 300 xp and yes, another 5,000 credits.

So, in 20 minutes or so, I have 900 ID xp and 15,000 credits.

Plus, I had fun doing it.

Time will tell, when you get into the 4th bubble in any tree, perhaps when you get to the fourth in your second or your third, your opinion on the timers will change. My guess is that in the next few weeks they will adjust them a little, at least I hope, and your progress will not be so slow. Good luck though, I hope you get to master without getting down on the timer/xp aspect of it at some point.

Well, time will tell I suppose.

You've just gotta stop and smell the roses (lol another saying) and enjoy it, its not a "grinding" profession.

Please dont look at this as a flame, its not, but in general do you think the changes good for ID? I ask this because on the patch post from SOE on startup ( I think this is where I saw this message..)they explained the intention that ID should be mastered by the casual gamer in about a month. To this point I just dont see how a casual gamer (I consider myself a casual gamer, I rarely play even two hours in a day..) can get very far in a prof that at best takes like 80 hours at that pace, unless they do little else but grind. And I would think of ID now as the ultimate grind profession, holo grinding is as good as dead now, but should you desire to be a master ID, as to compete with current masters on time per session and compete in terms of how much you can change for your customers. If you like ID taking longer than bounty hunter thats cool, and I wont stand here and tell you it is worth less than BH because that is up to each, and to master ID I am not suprised ID is more important than the combat professions shooters love so much. My question is if you think you would have more fun as a master ID than you do now, and if you think master would be more fun, how long you should have to work on other players looks to gain mastery of your art. It will in the end get faster, though they might think increasing xp to a thousand for stat migration will help, your still looking at progress behind the curve of other social professions. Do you not want equality with other professions in terms of content and xp progression? I assure that if we dont ask for it here, we wont get it. If they think the masses are happy with any aspect of the game, they will not put any resources toward what they consider to be working well. One "old saying" I love is "The squeaky wheel gets the grease" It is a truth that should not be forgotten, if we do not express our concerns, however big or small, SOE will continue to put its efforts into other areas. Of course, I also follow the smuggler forum, as I am interested in that prof, and they have asked for and been promised changes almost since launch, so some squeaky wheels dont even get grease, they get pushed back a few more publishes.

What you're actually is saying is that time went past so quickly and you had such a fun time doing it, that you don't mind the timers. Not minding something and something being a good thing are two different things in my opinion, but anyway... Image Designer takes 400000 xp from novice to master. At a rate of 300 xp per 20 minutes, that would take you 148 hours. I don't know how many customers need their eye colour changed on a daily basis but I can't imagine you'll have business every minute of the day. If you canfind someone to grind on, it isn't that slow really, but I'll talk to you later after you've spent 148 hours in that tent.

I do concurr with my former poster: If you have clients who actually want some ID work done, then the timers are not too much of a bother. Even a stat-migration is quite acceptable, if you find somebody who either wants some ID work done or who at least makes for a pleasent conversation.

Unfotunately that is not always the case, unfortunately you will not find enough customers to make ID in a reasonable period of time and unfortunately grinding it without a partner is not a pleasent experience. Of course this will depend on your playstyle and how well you take to not being able to do what a client asks from you as you do not yet have that specific box.

As for the seriousness of the profession: I do concurr that it is a bit sick if you can macro-grind a profession within 2 hours. But I am very sorry, the real professionalism and value of the profession - especially since it is a social and artistic profession - cannot be measured by the time I take to grindthe profession. I managed to accumulate a reasonable amount of respect for my ID char because of the way I do my work and the results I can achieve for my clients. As a result I am frequently complimented on the pleasure the client took in the session and that is what counts in my opinion and makes a profession worthy.

True, but a nice ID session with a client is quite difficult if you have to say over and over again: "Oh sorry, I can't do that yet (any more), but I can make your eyes green." I think I'm justified in trying to grind to Master asap, so that I can do what I like best, and give my customers the best possible service.

The only time I ever notice timers is when I am:

a) Stat Migrating (well, not when they are actually ATK and can hold a nice conversation)

or

b) Continually doing eye color or something on a guildy or just a customer who wants to help me.

You never notice it when you are actually doing ID work.

I think it works as wanted, it is only noticed when grinding (stopping holo'ers), but not when doing real ID work. Usually a person who wants actual ID work takes quite a bit longer than the timers.

Although, once you reach Master Image Designer, it has served its purpose, and should be removed totally as you no-longer need xp.

now IDs do migration they are a nessesity, and as the current masters leave game or drop, there are going to be no new ones beacause it IS that hard to master. even the 2nd box on ent takes atleast an hour of pure grinding. any other prof on marksmen or brawler takes about 5 minutes, and when there are no more IDs left the game will be fooked

There will always be ID, as in a pvp game there will ever be griefers. Just a question as to how many OSE wants, and if a reduction in ID population was their intent.

Removing timers for masters will make it even harder to novice IDers to get xp. This will effectively force them to grind (if they weren't already).

And this is good? When a combat class can make 900 XP on ONE KILL of one mission? And more like 10k XP in one difficult mission? In five minutes, if they're working hard?

Yes, it was too quick and easy to master ID before. Almost all professions are too quick and easy to master now. Not all (Ranger, anyone?) but most. However, going from 2 hours to 120 hours when most trees can be done in something like the 20-40 range? One extreme to the other, here...

I've recently started playing on Bria, and would like to master ID... but the thought of grinding through this profession as it currently stands makes me want to wail and gnash my teeth. I've mastered the profession four times, I know how it works, I just want to get to the top and be done with it.
